Thursday 23rd June

There is a “miraculous” story in the paper today from the world famous Havard university saying that………………………………………………………..are you ready for this?

Its not the calories that are so important, it’s the QUALITY OF FOOD that’s vital in terms of weight loss. Believe it or not, they said that lean proteins, fruit and vegetables, good carbs and portion control were the overwhelming and long term weight loss!!!!! Nuts in moderation were considered great for you because of their essential fats, wholegrains were considered vital and one amazing fact was……………………another drum roll, alcohol they said was a massive factor in putting weight on!!!!!!

Okay, the sarcasm stops now but hopefully you get the point.

We bang on here every day going on about the same thing all the time, but it just so happens that this “same old thing” happens to be true, and needs to be hammered home until people get it, and don’t waste all their money on faddy diets, and faddy exercise equipment!!!

Im not pretending to be a know all in anything, but I do tend to know what works and what doesn’t, I tend to know when someone or some organisation is trying to scam you out of your hard earned money!!!

So the Harvard university study comes up with all of this after a big budget thrown at it and it makes front page news, and nobody, and I mean nobody could be happier than me!!!

This is the time to embrace it all again, the time to realise it’s the quality that counts and not tediously counting everything. Of course if you DO EAT too many calories, you WILL put weight on even if you are eating quality food.

This is how rugby players get a lot bigger of course and develop a lot of muscle for example.

The reality is though if you eat sensible portions the size of your fist, you will look and feel fantastic over time, this is finally a fact and check put the front pages to prove it!!!!!!!!!!

  1. You make me laugh Ke, this is what you always preach to us, and I for one have never doubted it or you. Good food, sensible portion sizes, moderation is the key. Reading it in the paper would not make me believe it any more than I did b4. It is very true, and basic common sense really, I have given up on the calorie counting, having said that I do write everything down, but I have decided as long as it is good food, small portions, no animal fats, planty of water and keep the alcohol to a minimum, dont think I will go far wrong. I walked the dog this morning for 32.28, I started off slow and then speeded it up a bit, big mistake, I have been in agony all day, and I was only walking, it has been a month since I was over the beach with the dog, and longer since I had this accident, some days I think it is getting better and then I get a day like 2day. Could not train, been trying to keep my weight off it, it is not as bad as it was in the begining but I cant see a light at the end of the tunnel yet, b4 today I thought it might be another week or so, but now, well I just dont know what is going on with it. I was only walking, and I seen Sain who lives opposite and Phillipa running today and the weight is falling off them, it’s so frustrating, I wont take my health for granted anymore, miss the days I could just go for a run and not think anything of it. Will be seeing my Doctor in 2 weeks, he will decide if I need refering to the Surgeon, I hope it gets better Keri, what else can I do? I am icing all the time. Maybe I should try and take the anti inflams and put up with the side effects. How long does an injury like this usually take? Have the children 2mo, Jasmine will be in school until 3pm, told Ken he cant go anywhere, as I cant keep up with Ryan. Hope to be back in the Gym soon.

  2. it is VERY frustrating for you jean and i sincerely hope your doctor gets an answer for you very soon.
its difficult to know the extent of the knee damage, and if any surgery is needed.
The bad news is that you’re going to have to lose the weight in a different way, but it can be done. Just think of the wheelchair athletes around the world who have NO use of their legs, they work around it every day. After saying that, i am not saying your knee injury isnt serious, because it is, but there is a way around everything, even if it is a MUCH HARDER road, and you’re going to be tight on your eating too, as you say in this, you are doing well on that.
if it does get better, i would start off on ten minute walks, daily, sounds easy but u must be careful
keep icing it and stay positive in these difficult times, you CAN AND WILL get through it!!!!

  3. Cheers Ke, have had the children 2day and my knee is really swollen now, although they are so good they are still children and need looking after. Jasmine is a star, helping me up off the floor after playing with her and her toys, dont worry Nan I will help you, and she does, bless. But it is really painful now, just had a shower and I was thinking would heat be better than ice, I have been icing for weeks now and I dont think it is doing any good, I am still in a lot of pain, more so after the walk yest, am going to fill the hot water bottle and take the anti inflams, see if that makes a difference. I appreciate what you are saying Keri with regards to wheelchair athletes, and I know they do an amazing job, but my concern is that the pain is there for a reason and I dont want to ignore that pain and make the situation worst,I am trying not to go under the knife. If I was in this much pain when I first started training in the Gym, I would not have come, IT IS WORSE NOW, even the pain killers dont touch it anymore. Anyway as soon as it is better I will be back in the Gym. Thanx again for your words of support.
