Post traumatic stress disorder is something you probably know affects many people in the forces, and in this case was referring to US army veterans who had seen many conflicts.
The study started when the soldiers were back in the hospital in the US. Their disorder was so bad that some had failed to talk-for 5 years! That’s quite a thing on its own, quite how much they had withdrawn into themselves was startling and deeply disturbing after witnessing the ravages of war.
A radical experiment got them to be more active. In this case, they were taken out to sea by a surfing instructor. The men were being taught to surf, they didn’t really want to go but they managed to get them in the water.
Within literally 5 waves crashing over them, some men starting smiling and laughing, which according to the nurses and doctors present was the first time they could remember it happening.
Within 30 minutes, many of the group uttered their first words since they had been in the hospital (5 years ago).
The benefits continued to get better the more sessions they spent being in the water, and being active in general.
Most treatment for anything to do with the mind starts with exactly that-treating the mind and often medication.
A growing movement around the world by doctor’s and think tanks to create real change focuses on the subject getting active and moving more first.
There are numerous studies to show that you think more positively when you are exercising, being more active than when you are staying still and contemplating a solution or lack of it.
As the soldiers showed, whilst not completely solving their many problems, they got them on the road to a better future, getting them back “to live life” and hopefully in a place where they can make better and more empowering decisions about their future.
Get active, celebrate your ability to think more clearly and enjoy the opportunities that brings.

Here’s the chances you have of great success over the next 3 weeks in the new programme starting officially today!! We have just had a huge morning and i want to spell it out to you what you need to do.
You need to hit every workout with real intensity, with focus and a true desire to do better each time. Hard work leads to results, no excuses, you need to put it in often so expect hard work to be the cornerstone of your overall results.
You need to show up a minimum of three times a week without fail. Showing up is half the battle, because you know once you get to the gym, you will be guaranteed to have a big session.
Eat right. If you are putting all of this work in, then you want to maximise your results. Don’t waste any of the effort you put in by eating rubbish. Concentrate on shopping for good food and make sure you eat good quality, made by yourself meals regularly. No ready meals, cook from scratch whenever possible.
Drink plenty of water. If you’re not taking enough water in, then your performances will dip quickly, you will get dehydrated and you will develop headaches which will destroy your progress. Water is vital for all sorts of reasons!
Sleep well. If you don’t get enough rest, you will show up half-hearted, irritable and half the energy you need. Get to bed early and your body will recover well, and come back with a big bounce ready for your next workout!
Get your mind right. Associate with positive people whenever possible, write down your goals and review them regularly to see how close you are getting. If you get all the previous things right, then your mind will be clearer, more focused and more positive so you hit this programme like a train!!
This sounds like a basic list but will give you everything you need to outperform over the next 3 weeks and conquer this latest very demanding programme!
Tuesday, September 1st
September marks the start of autumn and your chance to make a charge at your highest levels of the year. Most of you have an incredible base and foundation anyway, so let’s aim high and smash out of the way what has gone before.
Many of you will have been hamstrung over the summer months due to babysitting commitments, the kids were off and that’s always tough to fit training in. Now though you may have a little more time so let’s pick up the pace and really make it count.
Now it’s all about slamming the sessions in, there’s no substitute for regular training. From hitting regular sessions, your body gets used to performing at a higher level again. When you are at this higher level, you feel a lot more capable of reaching out and hitting your best levels.
When you at your best levels, nothing feels better! Your clothes feel incredible on you, your energy levels are off the chart and your optimism and enthusiasm to do better in everything in life are huge!!!
September 1st sees the return of momentum in your training, your appetite to eat healthy and consistently, your desire to start looking your best again and seeing how far you can take your body if you give it the chance!!
There are no excuses not to dig deeper, to reach higher and do it on a regular basis. This is your time so let’s make it a massive month!!!
