If you are used to working out intensely and with purpose, then you will know by now that you will not be putting many 1-2 hour training sessions in, if ever!

For example, I took a session last night for a football team, they have been used to the 1-2 hour training sessions and they considered that the way to do things.

The session last night took just 26 minutes, but was totally targeted to those players becoming better footballers.

The feedback I now have is that the 26 minutes was much, much more intense and more difficult than the 2 hour sessions they were used to.

So the bottom line is that you shouldn’t really be obsessed with times in terms of your sessions, it really matters what you DO, rather how long you do it for.

I am no also a big believer in working the whole body in every session.

It was fashionable some years ago just to work certain body parts, but I think this is just a big cop out!

Its simply much harder to work your whole body in one workout, you burn more calories, you burn more energy and this means you burn a lot more fat, rather than have a much easier workout just working one or two body parts!!!

I went through the same system myself, and I can assure you the whole body system works far better for one reason-RESULTS!!! This is what we are all looking for after all isn’t it?

None of us have the time anymore to be training all day, and those long sessions are so boring aren’t they?

The great news is that they don’t bring and wont bring strong results for you on a regular basis.

When you train, get your plan together, do what you have to do with a lot of focused effort and get on with your day!!! There’s no better way!!!!

Monday 18th July

Good news on a Monday always settles you on a steady course for the rest of this week. Start with effort and you get a whole lot of confidence straight away and your results are likely to be very good indeed.

What helps me sometimes is going through the lists of food I give out to new clients, so they are always worth a visit in the diet section. The lists on breakfast ideas, lunch and evening choices and snack ideas reinforce my thinking on what I should be shopping for on a weekly basis.

I know if I REALLY want to be performing and feeling my best, then these foods HAVE to be a big part of my week.

I talked about the stress of moving home last week, but these foods have helped me an awful lot when it comes to re-energising me and getting me fired up to get through my working week.

“You are what you eat” has never been more true.

If you want to look like something really soft and spongy, then please go ahead and eat the ready meals, the cakes and biscuits, the chips, the greasy options in most café’s, these are the foods that will make you feel like you have NO energy and no enthusiasm for life!

If you are reading this, then it shouldn’t be a wild guess that you are looking for excellent results when it comes to looking amazing and feeling fantastic.

This is why I am banging on about diet today, because you can train ALL YOU WANT, but you can NEVER make up for a poor diet and deep down you know there are no short cuts to long term success with your health and fitness.

If you do click on the diet section on the right hand side today, you will refresh your mind and sometimes open your mind again to the extreme good value of changing your diet for the better.

Monday is a day to rebalance your body and put it on sustainable and energetic path for the week. It all starts with good nutrition, no excuses and lets get it right starting today!

Thursday, 7th July

The lack of honesty in assessing one’s training is similar to someone valuing their own house.

In 2007, everyone thought they were a millionaire due to their supposed value of their own house. This delusion can last a couple of years until they realise they have to be realistic and come down at least 20% if they really want to sell their house. Some people still won’t admit to themselves that their version of Buckingham palace is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, and in this climate, that is likely to be not a lot.

With your training and fitness exploits, there may have been a peak in your life too, when everything was going along swimmingly, life was great and you got used to receiving compliments all the time on your appearance. You probably look fantastic, you feel amazing and people admired your dedication for your health.

Then the “crash” may have come.

Life is not so easy now and its no longer “easy” to get into shape, although it is never actually easy to get into shape!

You may give sporadic efforts, you may give your all for a couple of weeks, but everything seems like swimming in treacle this time around.

The great news is though that there are reasons for it, and like yesterday it comes down to self-assessment and self-honesty.

Those people I train when they are in top shape discover this new honesty in themselves. Once they realise they have to adopt a certain healthy lifestyle to be where they want to be, suddenly get real with themselves and its fantastic to see.

They will tell you how glad and relieved they are to leave the alcohol behind, the fatty foods behind, the faddy exercise methods behind, once they did this they tell me, life becomes joyous once again and being in great shape is worth a million dollars, after all you can never put a price on excellent health.

If you’re at the peak or in a trough, its time to get real and realise what it takes to be at the top of your game, no excuses and no “but’s” because you know secretly the way to the top so lets do it!!!
