Confidence can be a two-way thing and can either work for you or against you.

You develop positivity and confidence usually by overcoming challenges, and discovering you can actually achieve more in your training and with your body than you ever thought.

You develop momentum by putting a string of workouts together, lose body fat, look better, feel so much better and soon enough it becomes an important part of your daily life.

You start lifting more, you become more agile, you become quicker and in general you start to move very well, sometimes better than ever before. Your confidence can quickly develop to an all-time high.

On the other side of the coin, events can conspire to make you lose your confidence.

An injury of some kind in daily life can happen out of the blue.

Work commitment can hinder your ability to make your sessions.

You may develop a short illness.

You may have negative people around you who don’t support your training and nutritional efforts.

All of these things can stop you hitting the gym as often as you would like. This leads to your gym sessions becoming harder because you become a little out of practice and you try to do the same things as when you were hitting regular good quality sessions. This is when motivation can suffer.

This is why a proper routine and programme becomes vital. You need to train regular and this is the only way to see consistently good results. Coming back strong after you recover from any setback can be tough, but regular sessions even when you don’t feel like some of them will make a dramatic difference to you mentally.

The other benefits are that the fitter you are and if you take your nutrition seriously, the stronger your immune system becomes and the more likely you are to have a strong sense of wellbeing.

This leads to a great sense of confidence because your body will be in a regular routine of looking after itself.

Living a daily healthy lifestyle makes everything work better for you, and gives your self-belief a massive boost at usually the times you need it most.

Determining your best workout should be thought of in terms of what does it cost your body in energy terms. This is the real way that great things are going to happen for your body.

A lot of men tend to measure their workouts on how good it makes them look, or think it makes them look. For many men for example, they tend to make Friday night “chest and arms” night because the chance are that they are going out later and want to look their “best pumped up”!

We like to think that we have changed that thinking completely.

Many women think that as long as they hit the treadmill and spend endless hours on the bike, that the fat will be “stripped away” and they will get their “beach body” far quicker this way.

Weights many females think are for the “bulky look” and they really don’t need them, in fact many females never hit the weight room. It should be obvious by now that we train with huge variety, and mixing strength training up with everything else is the way to go.

Many of our women are stronger than many men in certain tests, and all of those women are getting leaner, would certainly never be classed as “bulky” and are reaching new standards of fitness on a weekly basis.

Energy cost of workouts are a good way to think about your efforts, and will have a direction relation to lowering your body fat, getting you leaner and sending your fitness levels through the roof!

The tyres, the prowler, sledgehammer work with little rest in between, has a lot more energy cost than doing curls and leg extensions with very light weights for example.

It may be nice doing a couple of light weights exercises, and chatting on the bike for half hour at low intensity, but your time in the gym should be as productive as possible. Your weight sessions should be high on energy cost too, just like the ones I keep showing all of you all the time, and all of you are doing very well on them.

Use your gym time wisely, and you will always deliver far more impressive results.

Monday, 14th April

Monday morning should always give you fresh opportunity to improve, to move better and to renew your body after some of the excesses of the weekend, and face the weekend with fresh optimism and momentum.

There is a big chance of you improving on a Monday if you are regular exerciser, because a good programme will demand fresh progress out of you regularly.

Your body is perfectly able to improve and much more resilient than you think.

Certain conditions have to happen though to enable you to take fresh opportunities, and set yourself up for success.
You have to eat well 80% of the time to allow your body to be energized for your workouts, and to recover from them much more quickly.

You have to be on a progressive progamme that encourages you to take new challenges on. Working with someone who has a similar ability to you is always positive, and you know im going to do my best to get everything out of you anyway.

Getting everyone to move in different ways that are more beneficial can take some time but is always worth it.

Once you do this, no matter what the individual age is, the results always come faster and the person you are training can achieve much more sustainable results.

Everyone needs to “re-awaken” their body and remind themselves of how they used to move when they were at their very peak in life. Not only that, with the right type of training you are very likely to move even better, and with much more strength and speed!

Wednesday, 12th March

Methods of training can vary but one overall aim should never change-you should always aim to get progressively better.

This is a true measure of success and it’s not age dependent.

We have people in their 70’s and 80’s who want each year to add to their quality of life, through their exercise and nutritional programme and make it happen through steady progression in everything they do.

This state of mind encourages success.

I have met people who have been 35 years of age, and ready to give up on their bodies and want to somehow coast it to retirement! I kid you not!

This state of mind develops I think because they see so many other people doing it.

Changing your life for the better is not always easy, and many people’s experience of exercise is just walking into a gym and staying on a bike or treadmill at low intensity for 30 minutes or so. This is not going to be successful in really turning your body around and making you much stronger, much more flexible and more balanced.

Any exercise is great but surely we are capable of achieving more with your variety in exercise. The sad thing is most gyms put a load of machines in a room and expect you to figure out the rest? This is totally unacceptable in my view and you are paying a lot of money to have a guess on what you should be doing.

Not only is this unlikely to give you a good result, but it’s plain dangerous.

Before starting any exercise programme, make sure you have a solid plan that’s going to take you where you want to go. Also, make sure that plan is constantly updated to suit your progress as you go along.

Everyone develops at different rates, so your plan will change quickly along the way to suit your new found abilities.

Monday, 3rd March

Education through exercising is vital in your development. You need to seek out the best ways to achieve often constant moving targets in terms of strength, lung capacity and muscular endurance.

Targets change because a good programme will take you to your initial targets relatively quickly, once you get there you will naturally want to

If you carry on doing the same old thing, not only will you become bored, you will not get the results you really wanted in the first place.

Moving your body in all sorts of different ways is important to constantly test yourself. Doing endless sit ups is not going to do it, and we never do sit ups anymore anyway to get the best out of your core.

Personally I accept the fact that I need to keep learning throughout my career to achieve a better and better results for everyone I train. If I don’t do this, then I become mediocre myself at what I do, and that is unacceptable to me.

There is no reason why you cannot keep changing your own exercise programme, as long as it still has purpose and direction, and it takes you to where you want to go. Don’t do any exercises that you cannot feel or you wonder what benefit they are bringing you.

All the exercises i show everyone should be felt immediately, and the feedback of whoever I am training is ultra-important to see if any adjustments need to be made in that particular movement.

Always keep striving for more by changing things up and make sure there’s a plan to go with it!
