Halloween coming up and traditionally a big time for sweets and this means lots of sugar of course.

Most of us consumed lots of sweets as children and some of us are still consuming sweets on a regular basis now, but its when we become adults that the problems usually begin to hit home!!!

First of all, if we continue to get sugar from refined sources such as sweets, we can soon enough develop cardiovascular trouble and thats really bad news, especially when you start thinking about heart disease.

Eating a lot of sugar can increase the levels of “fluffy” fat that is between our arteries. This can form plaque and globules of fat that can lead to big trouble for us anytime.

When these forms of plaque break up, they travel to the heart, brain or kidney and can cause heart attacks, strokes and kidney failure.

The added sugars are just as bad if not worse, all of those names such as corn syrup, white sugar, brown sugar, dextrose, crystal dextrose etc etc are really devastating for your whole system if you continue to base your diet high in sugars!!

Sugar itself will not give you the heart attack, its just the sorts of conditions it brings with it. If you eat sugary foods every day then it doesnt take a genius to work out you will become overweight!! And from being overweight, diabetes, certain cancers and many other diseases become a lot more likely according to numerous studies!

A startling fact is that 36% of most overweight people’s sugar intake comes from liquid sources, pop, sports drinks, energy drinks are heavy contributors to ill health, and if most people just drunk water instead of sugary drinks, the obesity problem would be substantially decreased!!!

The bottom line is that a little sugar is needed by everyone, but fruits and grains are the preferred sources for good health and if you take this route, you are likely to regulate your health very successfully!

Monday, 1st August

Monday is perfect to hit your hardest workout and really get stuck into your own personal improvement programme. Nothing should be in your way now if you have had a good summer of training.

 Nothing or nobody is ever perfect though and I understand some of you have had big blows to your training because of injury.

 Monday though is the best way to give your best and nothing beats that tired feeling you get after a great workout, a shower and a good meal afterwards.

 This assures your body that’s its on a good course, you are more or less assured of a good night’s sleep meaning that you have the perfect set up for another great day on Tuesday!

Have a good Tuesday and Wednesday and the rest of the week becomes exciting because you know you’re going to be in a very good place indeed!

If you are following this blog most weeks and taking action each time you read it, and I stress those words in bold TAKING ACTION, you should be in a very good situation yourself today, and be very pleased with your progress. Just as this information I am giving you is upbeat and we can all pat ourselves on the back, the other side of the coin can make you downbeat to say the least and send you in a vicious circle.

 If you don’t or cannot train, then no fat or calories will get burnt.

 On top of that you won’t have the incentive to eat well.

 On top of that, you will likely to throw the towel in and no longer consider yourself “an athlete” in any sense of the word.

These are the two sides of the coin that face you, and both offer very different results of course, that’s why training in any way possible and starting your week off in the best possible way are so important!

Monday 13th June

Hello There!!
 
Can’t believe three weeks have passed already..
 
I got on the dreaded scales this morning and I have lost 4lbs. Happy Days !!!!!
 
Thing is I actually know how I’ve done it. I haven’t been able to train very hard as I have had a rotten  sinus head cold (and I mean rotten!!).
I became more aware of my portion sizing and cut out bread and potatoes for a couple of days, eating rice and crispbreads instead.
 
I have honestly not been hungry. I have snacked on fruit, nuts and raisins in between meals. I even watched my friends eat desserts when I went out one evening and just had a coffee instead.
 
Last week I saw a friend who has lost 3.5 stone on LighterLife shakes. She looks like a different person.
I admire her for her ability to stick to the regime. However, I could not and would not do it.
 
I don’t have to ask Keri what he thinks of these diets, he has commented enough on here about them.
I do know that I want to look that good and feel that positive. 
 
Going to do the same again this week, and will train more as I feel a bit better now.
I am on holiday next week, hotel breakfasts and evening meals out. Oh Oh !!!!
 
I’ll get a good week in and be as careful as I can next week. It’s the things you eat without thinking that can cause the rot to set in,
butter on toast, scrambled egg which usually contains cream, alcohol (yum yum) and desserts. Oh yes, and milky coffee, so easy to enjoy!!
 
Will get back in touch when I return and will report honestly how I have progressed.

 Excellent effort to say the least debs!
It says a lot that you are not willing to put up with any of the faddy diets anymore, we all know they are not sustainable and the main objective seemingly is to get you hooked on their “products” and take some serious money out of your bank account!!
The big thing that strikes me is that you know your own body and mind even better than before, and your experience now of all the ups and downs tells you now what is rubbish and pure lies, and what is tried and tested and likely to work very well.
Keep posting debs and showing everyone that it is indeed possible to get into great shape, as long as you give some commitment and have a great attitude, despite what life throws at us from time to time!!

The benefits of being on a roll can never be understated.

Lets start off with what happens when nothing’s going your way, you’re putting weight on and you’re not feeling good about yourself. How long does this period last? Weeks, months, or even years? Is this really acceptable to live your life like this? Is your life a misery when you’re overweight, not fit and don’t feel even 5% of what you were before at your best, you do not feel attractive any more, you have no energy any more and your aspirations and dreams are firmly stuck in the sand!!!

The good news is that it DOESN’T HAVE TO BE THIS WAY!!! And don’t let anyone tell you otherwise, i will repeat, don’t listen to all of those people who rip you off, don’t listen to all those “cowboys”, yes COWBOYS, thats what i call them anyway, you may call them charlatans!!!

Im talking about those companies who pray on your insecurities!!! They are the companies who want you to pay £75 a week to drink shakes all week instead of eat food, sure you may lose lots to start with, but can you really drink shakes instead of eat food all your life? I thought not, and just way for the big weight gain after it all finishes!!! Charlatans every one of them!!

You shouldnt have to put up with green and red days either, points or other cowboys who are out to fleece you out of all of your money, DON’T PUT UP WITH IT PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They make me want to puke at times, its that maddening!!!

Anyway, promise yourself today that you will approach your health and fitness with a very big positive attitude!!! You WILL eat well 80% of the time, you WILL EXERCISE at least 3-4 times a week, and you will not quit every time things don’t go your way!!! Life is not perfect so you had better be prepared to last the course this time, and im here to help!!!

Okay, so we have covered your cycling and running over the last couple of posts, but hows your inside work/gym work going?

You know how it should be going and this doesn’t involve hanging around talking around to everyone while you “train”! Taking it easy on yourself is not acceptable unless there are extraordinary conditions, or you’re just starting out.

There are a few things and indeed, mistakes i see every time i’m in a gym.

Number one if you’re working out with weights (and everyone should!), there’s too much rest in between sets, sometimes even 5 minutes, this is a painfully slow and ineffective way to train and get into shape, i should correct that statement because you’re never going to get into shape training that slow. I would assume there’s far more talking going on than training, and this is always a bad sign!!!

Number two is training with too many people, by that i mean there’s sometimes two training together and thats great, but if theres three of you and you’re all friends and want to train together, it can’t work because you will have too much rest in between sets. You will struggle to get any intensity up, so keep it to yourself and one other if possible.

When you train and there’s just two of you, try to do one set, then your partner does the next, then immediately again you do the next and your partner goes straight away. Try to keep this up throughout the whole workout and you will be out of puff and had a very beneficial bout of exercise, which will automatically lead to fat loss and seriously toning up your body, which is what most people want of course.

Avoid the fancy exercises! By this i mean you should pick the exercises that have most benefits, and they are usually the toughest!!!! The basic exercises are usually the most beneficial because they make you expend a lot of energy each time, meaning you burn more calories, speed up your metabolic rate, in other words, 24 hours a day you will be burning more calories a day, more body fat every day and keeping your body closer to the fat burning machine you really dreamed of!!! Yes, it is possible!!
