Okay, so we have covered your cycling and running over the last couple of posts, but hows your inside work/gym work going?

You know how it should be going and this doesn’t involve hanging around talking around to everyone while you “train”! Taking it easy on yourself is not acceptable unless there are extraordinary conditions, or you’re just starting out.

There are a few things and indeed, mistakes i see every time i’m in a gym.

Number one if you’re working out with weights (and everyone should!), there’s too much rest in between sets, sometimes even 5 minutes, this is a painfully slow and ineffective way to train and get into shape, i should correct that statement because you’re never going to get into shape training that slow. I would assume there’s far more talking going on than training, and this is always a bad sign!!!

Number two is training with too many people, by that i mean there’s sometimes two training together and thats great, but if theres three of you and you’re all friends and want to train together, it can’t work because you will have too much rest in between sets. You will struggle to get any intensity up, so keep it to yourself and one other if possible.

When you train and there’s just two of you, try to do one set, then your partner does the next, then immediately again you do the next and your partner goes straight away. Try to keep this up throughout the whole workout and you will be out of puff and had a very beneficial bout of exercise, which will automatically lead to fat loss and seriously toning up your body, which is what most people want of course.

Avoid the fancy exercises! By this i mean you should pick the exercises that have most benefits, and they are usually the toughest!!!! The basic exercises are usually the most beneficial because they make you expend a lot of energy each time, meaning you burn more calories, speed up your metabolic rate, in other words, 24 hours a day you will be burning more calories a day, more body fat every day and keeping your body closer to the fat burning machine you really dreamed of!!! Yes, it is possible!!

Have a great weekend and lets exercise with purpose, its all about results so lets do it!!

  1. back still aint right but am going to try some light stuff up the track on Monday.Would really like to try this out Ker,cos i tend to keep it high 8 or 9th gear up hill all the way(i dont daddle either)at a fair speed and the highest falt out on the way back.

  2. It will put less strain on your back too Cyril, you don’t need to big gears so much as u get older and u don’t need e extra strain on your back.
Have u got your ball inflated yet?
A good one to start off would be watching a tv programme for 30 mins, this is harder an u think and just sit on it
A very good one for the back would be lying on the floor on your back, legs over the ball, bring it close to your bum then roll with it side to side, trying eventually to get your hips to the floor, but that will take a while.
Let me know how u get on

  3. Hi Ke, just blogging to let you know how my training ISNT going. As you know I have had a chest infection which I am taking meds for, only Fri/Sat I felt worse so I went to the hospital and was told that I was having an asthma attack and that I have Pnuemonia. I thought I wasn’t feeling too good, anyway fedup, my BP was 189/100, not amused, the Doc said it was because I am coughing all the time and struggling to breath, feel like I have done a million situps. Anyway back on the Steroids 6 tablets a day with my antibiotics and pumps. Missed all the good weather this week, still nothing I can do about it, hope I at least start to feel better in the coming week, lelt good when I was on the nebuliser yesterday, but rough again today, pity I couldn’t have brought it home with me. Have done over 200 puzzles this week but it does not burn cals.

  4. sounds very, very bad jean and sad to hear you feeling so unwell, if i can help you out in any way at all, let me know

  5. Thanx Keri, but you cant do anything to help me at the mo, seen today by my doctor, had nebuliser in surgery, felt better after the neb, pity I couldn’t take it home with me. BP still high but slightly down on saturday’s 179/96, it is high because of the fluid in my lungs, I am told, my BP will come down as the fluid decreases. Just have to be patient, cant last forever, am on a high dose of steroids now so will not lose weight. Back on thursday to see the Doc and have things checked. I was getting back into my stride again with the training, will have to start again, slowly. Think I will have to start with just walking and build it up again. Will need your advice then as this is the worst pull I have had to date. Am determined to get my weight off and do away with all these meds, I believe it all stems from my weight, was ok when I was 9st 3lbs, will be that again, just keep getting these set backs. Thanx again for your support.
