We can learn a lot from puppies. My puppy is quietly getting used to going for walks, going down the lane a bit further each time, nervous to discover new areas of the lane, and then eventually seeing fast moving cars for the very first time.

At EACH of those stages, he doesn’t want to go any further, He would rather go back to the safety of his home. BUT he’s encouraged to take a few more steps, then it’s time to go back home again.

You know in a few weeks, a few months time, that he will be straining to search out much more adventurous terrain, sights and smells.

When someone is thinking about exercising, or start back exercising, they want to feel better but like the puppy, they feel nervous about taking the first step through the gym door.

When they do, they don’t think they could ever be as fit as the people they see working out.

They need to be encouraged to get better, to try new exercises and challenges, and as soon as they discover they CAN do most things much better than they thought, it’s at that point they cannot be stopped.

This is when great momentum is reached in their exercise and fitness journey and regular exercise becomes a way of life you carry on just to feel better and is exactly where you want to be. All the nerves would have gone and you only wonder why you didn’t start earlier.
