Day 71 Start of week 11!!

The feeling of helping individuals improve their lives is a fantastic one, and one that keeps me getting up at 4am every day.

I do rely on a certain amount of effort on the individual’s part though, and i am glad to say that everyone improves, even if some do better than others at times. Up in Cardiff today was fantastic, as i know every single one of the girls at Arthur Llewellyn Jenkins has made substantial progress, and are still excited about their improvements and their potential to do more than they ever thought possible!

I think the real secret throughout this challenge has been everyone learning that they must carry on even when they don’t feel like it. Isn’t it the same during exam time? We all have taken exams at some time in our lives, and a lot of us taken exams after we left school, i was one of them and remain commited to life-long learning.

I have trained so many people who have taken such after school exams, and they were glad they persevered when they felt like throwing the towel in many times. I felt like catching the train straight back from london when i did my exams, but glad i stuck it out or i wouldn’t be here writing this here tonight!

To get up and do your workouts each day does take more thought and effort than most people appreciate. This week for instance there is heavy rain around, there is icy weather back wednesday and the chances to workout will be more limited. Some of you may well make excuses, but you will know by now that’s its not going to cut any ice with me, if you parden the pun!!

Some people always ask me do i lose work through bad weather? The reality is that i do an awful lot of inside workouts when the weather is rough, and the quality of the workouts doesn’t have to suffer, sometimes it is even better! The only time i lose work is if i can’t get in because of the snow, and even then i always give it a good go, foolishly sometimes!

This is why a proper structure in your exercise programme is vital, or you will become a “weekend warrior”. This means someone who only trains the weekend because of “lack of time”. This is still good for you but a very inefficient way of training. What happened to the other 5 days?!!! Time to get with the programme!

Three days strength work is great along with a maximum of 3 days cardio work (running/walking/cycling/swimming etc). You always need one day rest minimum, no matter who you are, the body’s need for recovery cannot be understated so let’s keep everything in proper balance.

It’s like your food, keeping everything in proper balance is vital. Don’t cut out food groups although some are tempted for short term gains. Food and natural food at that, were put on this earth for a reason, to nourish your body properly and to be enjoyed in all its full natural glory. Ready meals and low calorie chocolate bars weren’t exactly part of nature’s master plan!!!

Hope you are having a solid start to the week and welcome to week 11!!!!!!

  1. Hi Keri, have sent you a email regarding the AIR CLIMBER, what do you think. May be a good idea when the weather is like this, like Cyril with his TG. 2day has been a total failure for me, wont go into to much detail, the start of it was NO SLEEP, about 3 and a half hours, so I didnt run and have been looking for a sugar fix to “get myself going” enough said. NO EXCUSES, JUST TOO KNACKERED TO B BOTHERED, HAVE HAD NO FOOD JUST CHOCOLATE ALL DAY. KNOW I HAVE LET MYSELF DOWN, AND I HAVE TO DEAL WITH THAT. Think that I should just let this Challenge go, to lat now, I KNOW I AM A QUITTER, MAYBE I DIDNT WANT IT AS MUCH AS I THOUGH. I thought I could use this when I go to the Caravan also.

  2. will have a look at it jean, and dont call yourself a quitter, you never usually have days like this so dont worry about it too much? success is showing up 80% of the time so will get back to you on that machine,

  3. air stepper
there are lots of devices like this on the market, the principle is sound, but how solid it is would be interesting, put it like that?
BUT if it keeps you exercising and you enjoy it, then fantastic!!

Dont worry too much about today, it all carries on after day 84 so no pressure, do your best most of the time and if you want to go at your own pace, thats fine too!

  4. Ok Ke, thanks, will do, my own pace I mean and my own thing, know I should b doing indoor workouts, have been neglecting them, but until I can lose a couple more stone, dont really see the urgency of them, will have plenty of time to tone and strengthen after that. I know you dont know me as a quitter, but your knew me a long time ago, will be back on track 2mo, but goin away Thurs for the weekend, so cant blog and if it is wet like this those country roads will be all COW DUNG AND MUD. I think the trouble is I am in my own circle of friends and feel comfortable, they except me as I am, so the urgency isnt there, would like to be lighter, but its like “what the hell” frame of mind I am in. Never been this hard for me to lose it. Is there any other machine u can recommend, although the AIR STEPPER I can take with me when I go to the VAN, it folds flat. Thanks again, really dont want to let myself or you down. Jean

  5. we all accept you for who you are, and will come up with some suggestions tomorrow so dont worry yourself, you have done well still, and more to come and you can get there!

  6. Christ Jeany your on a right downer!!!!!!! dont let it go just do what you can mun girl 😉 i’ve been where you are to and it aint nice. How many times have i bitched about not getting under the 18 stone, yet have been told by Ker and guys i talk to over in 7 it will come and when it does i’ll be away to go.Its THIS POXY WEATHER MUN JEAN ITS ENOUGH TO GET ON ANYONES T$TS!!!!!!.been guilty of having the odd biscuit or 2 myself lately dont know why thats my only vice at the moment no beer etc of any kind since last summer not even picking on crisps either.
we have a folding camper but my mrs hates it would rather have a Caravan just set up so you could just get up and go then……where do you go in the van then Jean????

breakfast poached egg on toast for a change pint of diluted OJ

nat yog and nuts water pint

lunch pita and tuna with the green leaves pint of water

    snack pear

dinner fish and wedges with peas pint of water

supper nothing cos i was full up……

  7. jean have a look on YouTube at the total gym i use it folds up to about 3ft if that and is about 5/6 inches wide and stands upright.i shopped around on the net and found mine for about £90 and you can set it to what is best for you.I’ve bought loads of stuff over the yrs and this is the best by far and is used all the time was doing it 5 times a week till i had the bike.I’m exactly like you with cant be bothered to do things. My wife had been on my case to get car insurance its up in 4 days and i just cant be arsed to do it!!!!!!!!!!!! peaks and troughs is all it is jean and your in the trough big time but you’ll be at the peak again.REMBER THOSE FEELINGS 😉

  8. the indoor stuff is not worth leaving out at any cost! You need to be doing it now without a shadow of a doubt, and i mean that jean!

regarding the exercise equipment, hand on heart, theres nothing i can recommend for your home in that range will work long term. Seems a waste of money to me, when an upgrade in your desire to do well costs nothing!

you know you can do it and everyone else does too!

  10. Thanx Cyril for your support, you are a sweetie, I think the only way I will lose weight is to sell the Caravan. The problem is we socialise when we meet our friends at the site. My husband, and I dont know some of my friends expect to go out for a meal and a few bevs, I suspect they are fed up of me saying that I cant have a meal and drink, or if I do have a meal I can only have Coke, and if I dont have a meal I count the calories for the drinks that I am having, and I cant have the hard stuff, I’ll stick to lager. When I do go to the van and make up my mind to be strict, I get comments like, “its not worth going” or “you wont go out to the pub, so whats the point” “why cant you just relax and enjoy yourself” “your always goin on about diet and exercise” “why cant you just except yourself the way you are”. I always feel like the party pooper. So you see its pretty tough and I end up saying “WHAT THE HELL” and I come home and I AM NOT HAPPY, so I start again on my plan, and guess what we go to the van again the next week, and on it goes, it has got to the point now that when I come home I dont even try anymore cos I know we will be goin back down again. Thats the trouble with being retired. I am reading this back and I sound PATHETIC. I get what Keri is saying, and yes I would like to lose some weight and be healthy, I suppose ITS MODERATION and getting the balance right, and only having a meal or a drink if I have EARNED IT. DO THE EXERCISE FIRST. We used to TOW THE VAN EVERYWHERE Cyril, but because my husbands back is knackered we have bought a large caravan and sited it now in PEMBROKE. I am goin on U Tube to have a look at your machine. Jean x

  11. the van aint far from you then.yeah have a look on youtube its dead easy to use and set up.Other wise i would’nt be using it 🙂 if i could really get to grips with the eating/drinking water it would work a lot faster i bet 😉

  12. talking about it helps jean, i really think you like to enjoy life, and you’re right the balance is the key! You love training too jean, so you have to have that in your life too, work out what you want and try to get your lifestyle to reflect that. I think you can be doing something most days though so keep your standards high.
