March 2nd

Your progress doesn’t mean much unless it impacts your life in a positive way.

It also doesn’t matter much if you feel that nobody cares about your progress. Having someone interested in what you do is a very underrated factor in your progress and confidence.

This is why people join diet clubs and gyms, its nice for people to talk about their progress with like minded people.

The weekly weigh in’s with diet clubs are a ritual for some people, and the pat on the backs or lets pull your socks up attitude seems to work for some people.

I’m definitely in that line of work too, a serious part of my job is not only constantly analysing an individuals performance and pushing them onto new highs, its also about motivating the individual and pushing the right buttons, especially when things are not going their way.

You can do it another way. You could ask a friend to help you out and witness your progress. That could be from measuring your waist with a tape measure once a month, to witnessing your weigh in’s every week, or just once a month.

Having a friend you can trust to help you can be very valuable with your training too. If you have someone who will become a training partner of yours, then you can keep pushing each other to new heights. Perhaps on one day, you will not feel great and your training partner will be able to push you to get through the workout, then on another day you will feel top of the world, and you will be able to get the best out of your friend.

This is why its always good to share your progress, it matters heck of a lot more when you share success, unless you are a very private person and like the rewards of purely individual pursuits, and don’t need to share it with anyone else.

Whatever works for you, then use it and keep using it time after time. The only thing that matters is sustainable progress and you being in great health. You always have to think about your health and fitness programme and change your approach from time to time. Life never stays still and you have to change to keep up with it, but as long as you train a minimum of 3 times a week and eat well 80% of the time, you’re going to be doing well!

  1. been finding it hard of late.Banging away up the track or in the house on my own. Then i look in the Mirror and think arh thats why 🙂 i find i’m ok until something unexpected turns up or school hols.Bloody routine goes out the window then!!!!!!!!!! one good thing i’m bouncing between 17.10 and 18st now not.18st6 all the bloody time………binned all the chunk so hopefully i’ll be lower than the 17st10.Seem to be at a lull with the weight side???only way to go further is to stick to tidy eating/drinking.Sounds easy enough.WELL WHY IS IT SO BLOODY HARD THEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

  2. Well Cyril, your not alone mate, the reason it is so bloody hard is because we as individuals develop bad eating habits, and we can get away with it for a while, the first half a stone becomes the first stone and before you know it it has creeped on again. The HEAVIER YOU GET THE HARDER IT IS TO CARRY ON WITH THE TRAINING. so before long here we are OVER WEIGHT AND NOT EVEN TRYING TO EXERCISE. And getting kick started again is unbelievably hard. You say the only way to go further is to stick to tidy eating/drinking, I’m afraid there is more to it than that Cyril, we have to keep upping our training input also. Because our bodies gets used to exercise, we have to take it to the next level, we have to get out of our comfort zone. And at one time for me that was not a problem, starting off on a scale of 1 to 10 at 2 and then progressing to 4, 6, 8 and then 10, it was never easy but I used to enjoyed the challenge and the feeling of great satisfaction after achieving it. Ho how times change, I am happy now if I can walk of cycle for an hour. Still we must continue to TRY cos the only option is to give up, and for me that is not an option, it may take me longer than it used to but I will get there. And Keri, you hit the nail on the head tonight mate, the reason I am joining SLIMMING WORLD IS FOR THE COMPANY and having someone else interested in my progress, it does help, that is why I think I am failing because I am not a member of a Gym, when I was, I had a routine and a structure and that is what I think is lacking now. So its not just a case of upping your workout from and hour say to 1 hour 15mins at the same level, YOU HAVE TO GET THERE FASTER, and make the hour become 55 or 50 mins over the same distance, I am sure you know all this anyway Cyril, so if it was just eating /drinking, now that would be easy, its the intensity of our workouts that is going to make the biggest difference together with the eating and drinking, alcohol is not the problem for me, its the bad habits I have got into again. CHOCOLATE, CHOCOLATE AND MORE CHOCOLATE. I always remember years ago, I was training in the YMCA and a friend of mine who I had not seen for some time, seen my car parked in a car park, and he told me, “before I even seen you I knew you were out of shape Jean” and I asked HOW DID YOU KNOW? And he replied ” I seen your car in the car park and it was full of chocolate and sweet wrappings” to this day I always take the wrappings out of the car now. Funny the things that stick.

  3. it is hard cyril and hard to keep up if you’re up and down on your habits, consistency is the true secret, but you need to give it time and it will become second nature, with time!!! lets keep a record of what u do again training wise as well as your eating please!

  4. wish i could start at the beging of a week(it would be easier to keep track then)Sat,Mon&Wed i’ve been 0n the bike(11miles)and Tues and today TG 3 sets of 10 at the highest level on it(instead of lots of low ones like you told me) and that would be belly,arms/shoulders and finnishing off on my legs(40mins)to do it all….

  5. think there’s been a fair few of my Facebook butties been having a sly look here 🙂 🙂 🙂 they talk about stuff i only hear here.Mmmmm 🙂
