Breakfast cereal advertising was heavy when I was growing up. We always had porridge, it was unglamorous but got the job done (and still does).
Ready brek had a lot more advertising and for a while was the fashionable alternative I remember kids bragging about, but looking back it, had more salt and wasn’t nowhere near as good for us as porridge, but the advert of kids going to school surrounded by imaginary warmth was more than convincing.
I remember the cereals too that looked glitzy, but we now know were loaded with sugar and salt and a ton of other ingredients, they were more expensive and still are, but never really gave you a good start to the day, they gave us little energy and load of chemicals-hardly a recipe to start the day.
We had 2-3 boiled eggs too, the perfect partner to porridge along with “soldiers”, which made the whole thing go down much easier and kept us going till lunch time. What a start!!!
The message is to keep it plain and simple for breakfast, avoid any fancy packaging or heavily funded advertising everywhere, and put into your body what you know works!!
