Here’s a story I want you to know, with the person’s name obviously withheld. That person has suffered with mental health issues and depression.

That person has been a good trainer at the gym. Workouts became a huge part of that person’s life. It made them happy, fulfilled and made them have a deep sense of purpose.

Then a string of freak bad physical incidents happened and their life was changed totally. One thing led to another and not only was the body crushed, the mind was being crushed as well as their confidence.

That person quit training out of embarrassment and their self-worth collapsed. I kept on messaging that person, often without an answer, but from their limited responses, I saw some light.

Before I may have quit messaging, but I learnt that it is always darkest right before dawn.

That effort came to to fruition this week. That person is back in the swing, feeling good, and it’s not like a perfect dream ending, the happy face says it all.

The battle is ongoing, but he told me one important thing this week, “KEEP MESSAGING ME, it gets me down here and the training saves my mind at crucial times.”

This has happened many times with many other people.

I message a lot of people, some of you may think you are “lost cause” at times, but until you give up on all hope, I’m going to have a go, because with one single action of entering the gym door, you can literally change your life again in every single way.

Everyone needs someone in the corner, this is a call for you to take immediate action.

There’s an old story about adversity about 3 pots of boiling water.

In the first pot you have a carrot, under intense pressure, it eventually becomes soft and withers and can offer no resistance.

In the second pot, you have an egg. The egg appears tough on the outside, but changes on the inside. It eventually becomes hard inside and unresponsive, accepting it’s harsh environment and becoming like it.

In the third pot, you have a coffee bean and reacts completely different. The bean under intense pressure starts to change it’s surroundings and turns the harsh boiling water into coffee, and changes everything around it into something much better.

We all have choices, we all have tough challenges that come our way and adversity will come. How we react and how we take the opportunity to change our environment is everything.

Do we accept what’s thrown at us or do we take the golden chance to change and make everything around us better?

It takes courage to change your lifestyle, to start exercising and eating right. Not everyone around you will be happy, but following through on good habits will not only make you feel better all round, it will start to inspire many of those around you to do something too.

You will never satisfy the “energy vampires” around you who want you to be weak and follow the crowd, but they will never be happy because they will never have the courage to change.

Your opportunity, your life and it all depends on your reaction to whatever in life comes your way. Making your own magic depends on YOU, use adversity as FUEL to change the way you see the world.

How many of you have stared at the machinery in a gym at a hotel abroad or anywhere.

You struggle to get going, you maybe not quite sure how to work something or its purpose, and you do your best with what you have.

Hotel gyms usually have no atmosphere and usually no people in them. Most people don’t exercise on holiday, they want a break from feeling good in my view, I know so many of you now take your red t-shirt and trainers to every place you go to.

Getting a gym atmosphere takes a long time, often many years. It’s about having the right people and having so many positive ones that the energy vampires feel compelled to leave, they can’t handle good vibes all of the time.

I can’t stand cliques of any kind, if you have to rely on who you know to get ahead, then you have arrived at a sad place and you don’t believe in your true ability, a sad waste and cliques can only make everyone feel uncomfortable.

Culture comes from doing the right thing for people even if it means facing them down if they have stepped out of line or upset people. Sorting problems as they happen is of paramount importance to running a gym, as well as enjoying all the good stuff that always happens.

I survived on a minimum amount of equipment training people for donkeys years in their houses, now we have loads it’s like coming to Disneyland every day for me.

The atmosphere though is the magic dust, and without it any gym would flounder. Thanks for creating it in abundance this week, and being so fired up in creating the magic.

Monday, 17th February

Thanking you for your adrenalin tonight, you gave me loads this morning too. Adrenalin is a surge of energy and it feels good to great, especially on a monday, it sets me and YOU up for the week.

Exercise will give you all the adrenalin you need, all the feel good factor you need, and a state of mind change that you definitely need to tackle your week.

Most people who take drugs do it for a state of mind change, so if you can do something natural that doesn’t have the extreme danger or comedown, then why wouldn’t you put exercise at the top of your list all week long?

If you are happy with everything then that is fantastic, I take my hat off to you because you have definitely worked so hard for it.

If there are areas in your life you are unhappy, sad, unfulfilled about, then how about changing the way you approach it?

Everyone loves to be around someone with energy, positivity and a sense of purpose.

We love all of you when you are sad sometimes coming into the gym, and then laughing in 10 minutes after exercising, and especially AFTER your session.

This week is all about realising your state of mind change potential, the added benefit of improving your body of course, and use this adrenalin and energy to RUN at your fears and challenges that will surely present themselves again this week.
