Friday, 26th October

October 26th is the day before the clocks go back, and automatically things get darker from now on, and you may have noticed a lot colder!!!

This is the true test for me on an individual’s hunger to show up and really get into shape. Its much easier in the summer when things are mostly bright and sunny, but the dark, wet, cold nights can be something else to get over.

If you look at the situation quite a bit closer though, there is absolutely no reason for you to miss sessions and snuggle up on the settee every night feeling sorry for yourself! You will feel a lot more sorry for yourself if you pile a lot of weight on, when your self-esteem goes down and you become one of those people who say “i used to be fit and healthy…………..once upon a time!!!!

This statement is one of the saddest you will ever hear so let’s turn it around right now and not fall into that trap for one second!!!

Look at it another way, there are 8 whole weeks to christmas and nobody wants to look overweight and sluggish christmas time, especially with all the drinking and eating yet to come!!!

Use the winter evenings as an excuse to train, to put in the hard work in your baggy clothes, knowing when it comes to wearing your christmas dress or christmas suit, you know you have the opportunity to look incredibly better than you do right now!!!!

These are the choices you have right now in front of you, if you really think of it there aren’t many reasons you could use as an excuse!!!

I have had this discussion with everyone i train who are struggling at the changing of the seasons, and all of them without exception have ramped up the pressure on themselves to put in such great performances in the run-up to christmas!!!

Friday, 27th january 2012

A great today for running, walking or just about anything outside, even if it is brutally cold!

You should ignore the fact that it’s cold, and simply brace yourself for the first five minutes of sheer cold, then you will soon get used to it! There is nothing like it to blow away some cobwebs!!

If you get used to these temperatures, then ANY weather is going to be okay for you. I used to get my chest wheezing pretty hard at the first sign of cold weather in the winter, i actually now find this good for me as it truly breaks me in for the winter.

If weather was a factor in allowing or stopping us training, then we wouldn’t get much training done in this country at all. If i were you, i would factor in that 9 months of the year is going to be terrible weather, and anything better is a bonus.

This gives you the mindset that you will train in any weather, as long as its not too icy and unsafe, and you will be totally willing NOT to make any more excuses about why you are not in shape.

There is nothing worse than making excuses not to train for bad weather.

My other favourites include not making it to the gym because i didn’t have the car, even though you could easily walk.

Then there’s the one about not having a “training partner” or this ficticious training partner always let you down!!!

So say for one minute anyone believe these excuses, i have given you a million ways on how to train in the house, THERE IS NO EXCUSE NOT TO!!!

If you forgot all of those lame excuses right now, and promise yourself you will NEVER make an excuse again not to train, then your mindset will take you to great heights and great shape in particular!!!

Use this weekend for getting out, whatever the weather because you know you’re going to be proud of yourself when you get back, and you’ve had a hot bath or shower.

The power of actually “DOING” is all powerful and will bring fantastic results out of you not thought previously to be possible!!!

April 28th

As booze will be such a big part of the weekend coming up, its time to realise what it means to you in real terms. Nothing wrong at all with a drink, i will have one myself but all im saying is the reprecussions could be worth considering.

Booze has a massive effect on blood pressure, and can really set about ramping it up to levels you don’t really want over a period.

Alcohol is packed with calories and WILL lead to weight gain, there is no doubting this.

You dont even have to drink a lot, just 3-4 units per day will DOUBLE your chance of suffering blood pressure problems according to the health authorities!

If you are a woman though, just 2-3 units can increase your blood pressure risk by a third, anyone who has suffered from blood pressure will know that this risk is not worth taking.

Theres a good site at www.drinkaware.co.uk

Caffeine used to be seen as a big problem for blood pressure, but as long as its in moderation, this is no longer true.

Lifestyle factors are far more relevant when it comes to blood pressure issues.

If you’re a smoker for instance, thats flat out the worst thing you can do and will bring you a whole lot of trouble over time.

If you drink less alcohol, you will benefit immensely.

If you have a diet rich in nutrients full of fresh natural foods, you are very unlikely to suffer blood pressure issues.

And of course, if you exercise with purpose on a regular basis, you are very likely not to suffer from blood pressure issues especially if you combine it with the lifestyle choices already mentioned.

So this weekend, its fine to go out and have a drink or two, AS LONG as your general lifestyle is good, then there is no problem at all!

It makes me laugh when i see the everyday drinkers out on bank holiday claiming its a one off day for them, THIS IS everyday life for them and unfortunately they will be likely suffering from many ailments brought on by a life of alcohol abuse. When you add smoking and an unhealthy diet to all of this, its a grim picture!!

Time for everyone to change their lifestyle surely!!! If you are having a few drinks, get out the next morning and exercise!!!
