Those indecisive times that come in your life when you feel like you can’t exercise due to work commitments, it’s not “convenient” any more, you’re having a holiday or time off, you just can’t make it, etc .

These are called your “HOLY MOMENTS”.

These are the exact moments you either just do it, you stay with your programme or you just “don’t” do it!

I learnt this off many individuals over the years, those times when you know that something you eat will be bad for you, you know that missing your workout will not do you any good, and you can totally justify it, as you’re so busy.

If you make the RIGHT decision to not eat the junk and actually train instead of skipping your workout, then you had a “holy moment” because at that exact moment you did the “right thing” even when there was a million reasons not to.

Making the right decisions are never easy, they are very tough normally, but you have to keep making them to keep your momentum going, the progress coming and your feel good factor turned right up as high as it will go.

These decisions will define you and separate you totally from those who have “average” results. If you think about the average level of fitness in this country then you know they are not that impressive, if you think the average dietary habits, then you know by looking at others’ supermarket trolley then that’s not usually that good.

Lifting yourself up to another level and leaving “average” behind requires lots of holy moments.

Often your best workouts are the ones you didn’t even feel like doing in the first place, but are always the most important.

So when you’re stuck for time next time, your day or week may not be going for you, it’s then you have to make it happen, you better just get your kit on and go training, it WILL be worth making a much healthier meal, and you will DEFINITELY feel better right after it all-YOUR HOLY MOMENT doing the “right thing”.

Sometimes the biggest inspiration you can get is people telling you, you can’t.

That you aren’t “good enough”.

That it’s not “possible” for you.

That success isn’t “really you”.

Don’t let anyone else tell you what your strengths and weaknesses are, and what you are not good at, because usually that just isn’t true. I see individuals proving people wrong every single day, and going on to achieve things considered “impossible” just a few weeks before.

Many people don’t like to see others achieving and don’t have the guts and determination to leave their comfort zone themselves. Leaving your very own comfort zone is tough, but your achievements and things you will be proud of only begin at that exact moment when you really give things a go, and promise this time to finally see it through to the end.

If you listen to everyone’s opinions, especially the negative people, then the chances of you really reaching your deep down goals (the ones you really care about), are going to derailed or at least slowed down a lot.

Once you realise that you are biggest contributor to creating your own destiny, then you will move forward quickly and real-life meaningful changes will happen for you.

Once you start overcoming obstacles/reaching and beating targets you set yourself, you will develop momentum and developing the necessary habits to be successful will become totally natural and something you do every single day without even thinking about it.

Your beliefs about your true ability are crucial, and please never let others “decide” what that ability actually is, because chances are that they are holding you back getting the big things that really matter to you.

An old saying is that you need to be willing to sacrifice what you are for what you could become.

That moment when you become ultimately successful is amazing when you change your body and mind for the better. That journey though is full of bumps on the road that often tries to throw you off course.

Here’s what I notice just before our most successful members get the huge results they want, something really unique happens.

If you rewind slightly before they get over the finishing line, just before they were about to achieve their greatest successes, they too also go through the self-doubt, the thoughts whether they could carry on or not, whether they were really making the staggering changes that everyone was telling them they were.

Most people we train are very humble people, and sometimes they only believe their success when their clothes are suddenly falling down on them!

They only believe it when people they haven’t seen for a while ask them what the heck they have been doing! The change is often so dramatic that it makes friends comment so much on a regular basis.

It’s a fact that most people when they try to achieve anything in life often quit when their victory and success is only a yard or so away, the final bit of self-belief and seeing it through are so important to complete the journey.

Success comes when you stick it out a bit longer, even when times are tough and you think you can’t get through it.

Change is often uncomfortable but change is the essence of life, and is the main reason why people ask to join our gym. They want change in their lives, and it’s our job to deliver that change, even if it’s very tough at times, I know the individual concerned at the end though will be extremely happy with the results and very proud of their achievements.

Watching the person you are training in how they move is often far more important than what they have to say.

Anyone I train will know I often ask excessively “how they are feeling” and how was that movement they just did.

Did it work for them? Was there any pain? Was it too much?

When anyone I train doesn’t know me too well, they will often tend to agree with everything I say. Then when they get to know me, they will tend to answer me back and question a lot of what I say-THIS IS A GREAT SITUATION!

Take a movement that’s causing you pain for instance.

When I get someone doing a new movement for the first time, there is a small chance that this new movement may cause them some discomfort.

The person I am teaching may say they found it “fine” but may walk away rubbing their shoulder. This is a clear sign that everything wasn’t fine and that movement we tried was a problem for them.

This is when observation of the person I am training is vital. The person I am training for years will always tell me straight if something was causing them discomfort, and they know I would stop right there.

When new people come to the gym, I always explain how your body works and is supposed to move, and avoiding pain is key for us. Their past experiences of exercise though have often not included this philosophy.

PAIN DURING EXERCISE AND NOT BEING ABLE TO WALK AFTERWARDS ON A REGULAR BASIS IS WRONG, DAMAGING AND IS GOING TO CAUSE LONG TERM PROBLEMS FULL STOP.

There is said it!

This is why how people move often gives more tell-tale signs than what they say.

The potential for new members to make mistakes in their training early on is huge, this is why I need to spend so much time developing them and not leave them after just one session left to their own devices.

Wednesday, 9th April

Development in your programme can always happen quicker than you think as long as you are willing to buckle down and work at your fundamentals every day and not compromise.

If you don’t eat breakfast as within one hour of getting up, you are struggling from the very start of the day. This is an absolute must for all sorts of reasons.

If you try to run before you can walk in exercise terms, you are likely to get injured or lose interest in your exercise programme very early, or both things will happen.

If you have a back problem, and most of you do or will do in your lifetime, then you need to address that immediately before proceeding. Then you only advance with caution under supervision at all times but it can be sorted out gradually and for good.

If you are eating well 80% of the time, then that’s great.

If you are not eating well, then your workouts are always going to be a struggle, you won’t perform well, and you won’t recover from them anywhere near as well as you could do.

If you want to get into good shape, you have to accept that you need to make a lifestyle change full stop. It doesn’t have to be some kind of unachievable tough regime either, you have to fit it into your weekly schedule and anyone can do it.

All it needs is planning and tweaking your workouts to suit life’s everyday inevitable challenges.

Not one person I train has “all day to exercise”, we all live super fast lives now, so scheduling it in as part of your week is vital.
