Sunday, 5th July

By the time people come to us, I am used to individuals saying that “nothing is working”, “ I will never get in shape” and “this is my last hope” or “I will never play at that level because I am too slow or not talented enough”!

A proven plan that will make you realise its best to throw away the weighing scales takes some getting used to, after all you have been told for years that the weighing scale is king? Changing people’s minds on this can be difficult to start with, but becomes easy once they see their clothes fitting better and eventually becoming way too big.

“Getting the body you want now” has become sort of a cliché and many times these false promises have led to several blind alleys? I think all of us can relate to those disappointments.

Do u dream of wearing the clothes you love on the hangers in shops, but never imagine that you will be actually wearing them in reality because you permanently avoid tighter fitting clothes because they “show the bumps” more?

This time it’s different.

You are going to be very fit, you will build lean muscle which is vital for your body to work better in all ways, your metabolism will be firing better than it ever has, your energy levels will go through the roof, you will sleep much better than you ever have, you will constantly raise your standards, you will receive compliments on your appearance and how healthy you are looking, and your performance levels will be huge and you’re never too old to turn back the clock.

We are not a short term gym, results take time and you had better be committed for the long term, this is what making a “healthy lifestyle change” is all about after all. You really need to change for life

Our biggest achievers have taken months and years more like to look and perform that good.

They are always on hand to learn off and inspire you, we are all about getting fit and healthy the right way, no over the top pain that lasts for days, no stress on joints, no faddy diets that often uses dangerous advice that can wreck your health, no feeling sick of dizziness during/after sessions and putting together sessions that reflect YOUR ability and nobody else’s!

Monday, 19th May

There are all different types of people who join gyms, and whoever it may be, it’s important to get them back down to basics to make sure they improve.

People who dabble in this and that, need to start buckling down to a proper programme and develop real strength and endurance.

For example, you often get individuals who have tried a bit of everything.

They have done weight training before at times, they sometimes have used the latest machines and convinced themselves that somehow they were “better”, they may have tried endurance training such as longer runs and longer cycles and bought all the latest kit and looked like a pro, they may have tried yoga and pilates, and more than likely swore blind that each of them was the best form of training at one particular time.

These people are willing to try anything, and many of these individuals have developed some strength and some endurance, which is a great start when it comes to our programme.

However, when it comes down to it, they usually have never done enough training to develop the skill, strength and power that comes with more specialist programmes that REALLY transforms you!
When many people come to us, they lack the strength of someone who trains consistently and has developed real strength.
Their tendons and ligaments haven’t developed the strength to learn a new way of training.

Our programmes are transparent, well-thought out and may look easy on paper.

If they were really easy to do though, you are doing them wrong or not putting enough into them!

We build everyone up gradually, and with time you will develop into an impressive athlete.

To start with though, you have to learn to do things right, to follow through with a programme for the first time ever, and to test yourself constantly.

You have to take your nutrition seriously, you have rest properly and you have to come in with a positive attitude.

Nobody gives a damn what you wear in the gym or how much make up you have on, but you better be prepared to work hard!

Thursday, 6th February

If your results have been good in January, then you should see February as a continuation of the lifestyle habits you developed or rediscovered in January.

Lots of people ask what is the “true secret” or the “one thing” of getting into the shape you always wanted, and I have to tell them the same old answer. The “one” thing is EVERYTHING.

You can’t fool your body for long with the latest faddy diet, the latest exercise gimmick, or whatever comes on the market on a relentless basis. If I based my business on any of these, I would have been out of business in a few weeks or months at best, like all of these fads inevitably do.

If you are not eating healthily, if you are not exercising regularly, if you are not sleeping well, if you are not keep alcohol to once a week, then you are not going to get near the results you want, and please don’t let ANYONE tell you different!

February is time to try something new too, now your foundation is better, you can experiment more and hit new exercises. We always like to talk about exercise cost and this means the hardest exercises usually have the biggest energy cost, so try this month and approach your programme in a different way.

Moving on to the next phase of your training is vital, and this is only possible when you are doing everything right in the first place.

We have more people than ever exploring their limits on the physical potential.

This means new exercises, variations on older exercises and a higher training intensity again using all new and different strategies.

Time to make the step up.

Friday, 27th December

Following on from our last post about guidelines about training through the Christmas period, it’s important to write it down in layman’s terms.

This is because quite a lot of you have continued training throughout the holidays, and some of you even on Christmas and boxing days, some of you train these two big days every year, simply because you feel better you tell me, and we can all relate to that feeling that exercise gives us.

So let’s assume you are looking to keep some sort of decent condition over Christmas, it’s important to remember some key recommendations.

Most of you will not have much time to train as normal, with other commitments taking precedent so it’s vital you cut to the chase!

If you are doing a weights workout, you need to prioritize getting the most from your body.

If you usually pick 8-10 exercises for your session, then you need to just do what is necessary, and try to work your whole body in one session. Many people have gone away from working your whole body in one session, but going back to it will surprise you in terms of the effort required and the huge benefits it can give you again. Many people try to go straight on some kind of pro routine when a simple all over programme 2-3 times a week would be far more beneficial for them.

Just pick one exercise for your legs, chest, shoulders, back, arms (triceps/biceps) and core.

Pick an exercise that tests you quite hard and requires a lot of energy, for example bench press for chest, upright rows for shoulders, one arm dumbbell rowing for back, leg press for legs, dumbbells curls/bench dips for arms, etc, and some medicine ball work for core.

After a brief warm up on the bike, try 3 sets of 8 with a weight that’s going to test you. This will give you a short and very productive workout in less than half and hour.

Aim to take 45 seconds in between sets, or however long it takes you to get your breath back. You may have to use less weight than normal, but your heart and lungs will be having a great workout too, and as you get used to it over a few weeks, your lifting weight will gradually creep back up again.

You will be out of breath at times, your heart rate will be accelerated, and you will definitely break a sweat, in other words you will be getting the job done quickly.

Christmas is a great time for getting back to basics, and this simple plan will take you a long way into the new year too.

More on other simple training strategies to come, that you can use the rest of the week.
