Tuesday, 2nd April

So here we are, Easter has come and gone, lots of you have been on mini-trips, and been enjoying yourself over the holiday, and why not!!

Easter signifies for me how much work you have really put in over the winter? Have you been working hard when it was freezing and wet, as well as when it was dark at 4pm?!!! This is when it really counted and the annual expectation that some have got to look great in one month is often a foolish one.

This is why i write this thing year round, because EVERY single week is important, every monday to friday in terms of training and eating is ultra-important to shape your destiny this year. Ideally, you would have taken some of that stuff in i was writing every day, and applied it to get some decent results. I know that is clearly the case with a lot of you.

If you have ignored what i said in all of those winter months, and indeed the last four years, then no need to worry, i will certainly not be offended and will gladly continue to try and help you.

If today is indeed your first day of trying to get into shape for the summer, than i welcome you onboard!

The first thing you need to look at is your food cupboards, and are they full of sugary and fatty foods, or are they full of good wholesome foods. If they dont come up to scratch, then please plan ahead and make your next supermarket shop your first start, filling that trolley will foods as natural as possible, without all the added sugar, salt and saturated fat, start drinking more water and start moving, and by that i mean exercising, however small in duration terms.

The fact that you started is the most important thing you can do today, and you can still make a difference to yourself by the summer, if you knuckle down right now!!!

If we have talked a lot about results this week, and it sounds like a wonderful situation to be in, and you think that YOU are not getting results so what i am saying is far-fetched, then you really need to change the way you train and eat, and get out of the programme you are in right now!

Chances are that if you are not in our programme, you are stuck in either a

a. You’re not exercising at all.

b. You have exercised before, but because of a lack of progress, or a bad experience, you no longer have hope that exercise can work for you.

c. You DO exercise, but you get mediocre results, and really treading water when it comes to what you do, you are bored and feel no way out.

d.You exercise regularly, you try your best but are puzzled why you do not look at your best, and wonder if exercise is really the answer for you?

e. You try every fad going, the “next big thing” is surely going to work this time, and you get eternally disappointed by all the false promises that are somehow going to change your life!!

f. You just go to slimming clubs, but like the 97% of others (according to multiple research companies) fail and put all the weight back on and 5% on average (again according to research), then go through it again and again.

Many of you may in these groups, or have been, and its painful to be here.

There is ANOTHER way based on scientific research though, and this is my mission to bring the truth to you.

We talk about those ways every day on here, so feel free to look back through all of the posts over the last 4 years or so.

The feedback is getting greater and greater, so feel free to ask me any question at fitness@kerimckibbin.co.uk.

The greatest satisfaction is putting individals on the right track after getting let down so much in the past by misinformation.

The biggest thing you can change this week would be getting salt out of your diet. You get enough sodium in most foods, and overdoing it with salt can be a really bad idea.

Adding salt to your foods is a cardinal sin, and this one will hold water and fluid in your body like nothing else! Fluid retention is unpleasant and I know a lot of people get it, getting rid of salt will get rid of it for you.

Cooking with salt is something that many people consider “natural”, the same factors apply here too. Adding salt to your foods is strongly linked to high blood pressure problems, water retention and other serious health problems. Salt added to foods that make them highly processed are causing big problems around the world, and nows the chance to turn back from that road and fire on all cylinders and reach new levels of performance and health!

In fact, there was a big story in the press at the weekend about salt being linked to more deaths than sugary drinks, this is a serious charge when you consider all the terrible press that sugary drinks have had lately!!!

When you get salt out of your diet, straight away you may notice your food doesn’t taste as nice, but these feelings will go soon enough, and when you get used to cooking without salt, you will never go back to your old ways!! It would be like going from having two sugars in your tea to no sugar overnight. Tough to start with but you will never go back to adding the sugar would you?!!!

Refreshing that salt is getting exposed in the press, after getting away with it to a degree compared to sugar and saturated fat!!

Time to change right now!

The benefits of no salt go all the way across the range, and from a health standpoint, as well as looking and feeling a lot leaner, salt has to go and it needs to go now.

There sometimes is confusion of what I say in terms of food recommendations, most people seem to get it but its worth me going through it again with a few basics, and giving you what some people have “thought” I meant. Its easy to make mistakes on foods, so im bring some clarity here so there’s no doubt!

When it comes to milk, I do mean skimmed milk and at worst semi-skimmed milk. I DO NOT mean full fat blue top milk as some have thought. This choice alone can make a big difference to your diet, fat gain/fat loss, general health so sort it out and you advance quickly.

When I say tea and coffee is fine, I mean up to 3 cups a day, I do not mean several which can make you more irritable, dehydrate you and make poor snack choices such as biscuits with tea etc.

When it comes to red meat, its got to be once a week maximum, and the butcher will not mind at all giving you the leanest cuts, with most of the cut taken out.

When I say alcohol is fine in moderation, I mean once a week. I don’t mean a couple of glasses every day, I don’t mean drinking hard liquor just to cut calories such as gin, vodka, whisky which can be highly toxic to your body when drunk in excess. Wine may be more calories, but it travels easier through your body and is far less toxic.

When I say sip water throughout the day, and aim to get at least 1.5 litres a day in, I do not mean just drink one small bottle a day, this is only 0.5 litres and if you are training, you will easily need more than 1.5 litres. Get in the habit of drinking water throughout the day, and definitely through your workouts, your performances and wellbeing depend on it!

Just a few here but many more to sort out tomorrow!!

Wednesday, 6th March

If you feel that your best years are behind you in terms of physical prowess, then I have a ton of evidence that I could produce for you every single day that will disprove that statement.

I have countless individuals who have started training in their late forties, into their fifties and into their sixties who have consistently better numbers than many twenty somethings I train.

This may seem hard to believe, but these are the kinds of results that you can begin to expect if you train and eat consistently well over a period of months, and especially years!

This is what you can expect if you change your lifestyle accordingly, starting getting to bed earlier especially in the week, and being in a programme of constant development and progress.

This is what will happen if you have your blood pressure, body fat, waist measurements done regular, and aim to improve them every single month. Your programme has to help you get there not only quickly but safely, and this is of paramount importance.

As you get older, you really want to avoid dangerous movements that will stress your joints. You want to be kind to your bones and theres a million ways to accomplish that.

Training smart will always beat someone screaming in your ear with a mindless training programme that accomplishes very little and eventually get you injured.

We always talk a lot about core stability in terms of training options, and this is the biggest feature of my training with everyone. Once you get your fundamental strength right, then the sky is the limit when it comes to your overall progress.

Mentally too, you have to open your mind to big progress, and seemingly unimaginable ability again with your body. You will soon learn to stop thinking like a fifty something and rekindle the ability you thought you had left behind in your 20’s.

The science is there to do it, so changing your plan right now to reflect that is of vital importance to you. Nobody needs to feel or look older than they are, changing your lifestyle will achieve a more youthful you in no time at all as long as you’re willing to commit to it!
