The benefits of being on a roll can never be understated.

Lets start off with what happens when nothing’s going your way, you’re putting weight on and you’re not feeling good about yourself. How long does this period last? Weeks, months, or even years? Is this really acceptable to live your life like this? Is your life a misery when you’re overweight, not fit and don’t feel even 5% of what you were before at your best, you do not feel attractive any more, you have no energy any more and your aspirations and dreams are firmly stuck in the sand!!!

The good news is that it DOESN’T HAVE TO BE THIS WAY!!! And don’t let anyone tell you otherwise, i will repeat, don’t listen to all of those people who rip you off, don’t listen to all those “cowboys”, yes COWBOYS, thats what i call them anyway, you may call them charlatans!!!

Im talking about those companies who pray on your insecurities!!! They are the companies who want you to pay £75 a week to drink shakes all week instead of eat food, sure you may lose lots to start with, but can you really drink shakes instead of eat food all your life? I thought not, and just way for the big weight gain after it all finishes!!! Charlatans every one of them!!

You shouldnt have to put up with green and red days either, points or other cowboys who are out to fleece you out of all of your money, DON’T PUT UP WITH IT PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They make me want to puke at times, its that maddening!!!

Anyway, promise yourself today that you will approach your health and fitness with a very big positive attitude!!! You WILL eat well 80% of the time, you WILL EXERCISE at least 3-4 times a week, and you will not quit every time things don’t go your way!!! Life is not perfect so you had better be prepared to last the course this time, and im here to help!!!

Jean and debs have already commited to achieving big things with their body and mind again, its time cyril got onboard too, you have my number cyril i believe or if not, email me on fitness@kerimckibbin.co.uk

No time to waste everyone, lets do it!!!!

13th May 2011

As we hit friday 13th may, you may be wondering why your programme may not be going as well as it should.

There are lots of reasons maybe, but the main one must surely be just getting the thing done in the first place!!!

You will get a high from exercise and eating well, that is without doubt.

You will get a low from not exercising, because you are not injecting any energy into your life. In fact, a recent study from spain suggests that people who eat the most trans fats are 50% more likely to suffer from depression, than those who eat the most momo and polyunsaturated fats.

To put that in a easy way, if you eat ready meals, processed foods and those foods who have lots of chemicals in them, they are likely to be loaded with trans fats. Fast foods and takeaways for example constantly come out the highest when it comes to trans fats and therefore put you at a much higher risk of heart disease and other life threatening diseases, if eaten on a constant basis.

So whats your choice going to be this weekend? Is it going to be a friday, saturday and sunday of processed rubbish washed down with alcohol? And then be somehow puzzled by the fact that you have put weight on by monday?!!!!

Or are you going to spoil yourself in a different way?

Sometimes its a great treat to go to m & s and get a whole chicken which tends to be very good quality, then get some tomatoes there which can make you love tomatoes again, and some spinach and do a nice quick meal out of these high class ingredients. You can get a rich tasting meal out  of this right there.

The SAME meal can taste very bland out of many other supermarkets, so it does show paying extra can sometimes make a big difference!!!

I am not recommending you shop at marks and spencer all the time of course, that would be silly but once a week take the chance to purchase some really good quality and great tasting fruit and vegetables, as well as some great tasting healthy food across the range.

You may not want to do it of course, but its got to be better than 3 days of gorging yourself on rubbish thats going to keep you on the toilet all weekend, for all the wrong reasons!!!!

When you miss a workout, you can’t be blamed for that as things happen, life happens and something may have come up last minute.

This doesn’t usually explain a week off training though, and definitely not two weeks!!! I find those who do take time off their training for whatever reason, always struggle to get back into it, and regret the time they took off. I am not talking about annual holidays of course here, when a break can actually be good for you if you have trained hard all year!!!

For example, over the last couple of weeks, we had more or less two three day weeks with the big bank holidays, and those i had to miss training for two weeks have really struggled to get anywhere near where they usually are!!! This is a fact and you may be going through exactly the same feelings yourself!!!

If you think two weeks off is not good, what happens to those of you who take a month off, three months off or even a year off? What happens to your get up and go during this period? My educated guess would be that your get up and go would be very low, and the lack of spring in your step would make you almost a different person, kind of like the opposite of the huge beneficial effects that exercise normally have on everyone.

Coming back from a lay off can be tough on the mind, as well as your body of course. Getting confidence back is half the battle when it comes to committing to getting yourself back in shape again!!!

Confidence comes from doing the right things every week, that means training a minimum of 3 times a weeks, eating well 80% of the time, getting some good sleep most nights, drinking enough water and generally being positive about your prospects about getting into shape over a reasonable amount of time.

Consistency is my favourite word, and the true secret to success!!!

March 10th

Making a big difference to your physique involves changing your programme every 6 weeks and certainly 12 weeks.

The same can happen with your food. Just because you change your food around, it doesn’t have to mean you change your diet from one faddy diet to another either, it just means exploring different foods, different recipes and a willingness to test your taste buds in different ways.

For example, I was talking to somebody yesterday who was on a very well known diet some of you have mentioned before.

She said that she wasn’t allowed two weetabix and milk on one particular day, as well she wasn’t allowed beans on wholemeal toast another day, what RUBBISH!!!!!!!! This is madness of the highest order and please don’t tell me that you have paid for all of this rubbish?

The lady in question quickly went back to her tried and tested way of eating of if its healthy, then its going to be good for you. You cannot go wrong this way.

You also cannot go wrong if you have followed this healthy way of eating all week, and if you want to sample an occasional treat the weekend, then there’s no problem at all? You have worked hard and well at your food all week and you deserve a treat here and there, as long as its not a whole gateau for example!!!

There was another good sign yesterday, a 12 year old I have been training with some weight to lose and was addicted to sugary/fatty foods has now made great strides with his eating and training, and is looking now like a much healthier version of himself, and hes much happier for it too.

The test yesterday came with his pancakes, for the first time yesterday he had NO SUGAR on his pancakes, because he didn’t feel the need to. Another positive was that he said the pancakes didn’t taste half as good as they used to, because his taste buds have changed and sugar is not a major part of his life anymore!!!

I had some pancakes too, made with wholemeal and stonegrain flour, 2 eggs, nearly a pint of milk and they were delicious. NO SUGAR, NO BUTTER AND NO SALT. If you think that is horrible, perhaps you are still addicted to sugar and not getting the results you want?

Time to change!

March 1st-start of the year for many!!

March 1st is a big boost to all of us, January and February are traditionally the darkest months and when our motivation is lowest. It is usually quite high in early January after the new year resolutions, but by February, everything slips back into the status quo and a gloom seems to set over everyone.

March 1st signifies new possibility with spring coming and everything seeming fresher.

So now that perhaps unrealistic expectations made on January 1st are seemingly over, its time to get some real plans together and stop kidding yourself you can eat all those weight watchers biscuits and still stay lean, you really can’t.

The sooner you realise that most diet organisations have got their own greedy agendas for selling you their products and versions of food, then the quicker you progress, start eating good proper food and actually start saving some cash on all those empty promises.

From the weight watchers biscuits and ready meals, to the slimmers world green and red days, to the lighter life £75 a week you will need to spend buying all their shakes and snacks. Of course you’re going to lose some weight, sometimes a lot, but as the media has shown this week, most if not all of those examples they use have put all the weight on and usually 5% more on your body that you never had even in the first place.

Here’s a challenge for you this week, visit the supermarket and try to only go down the aisles that will help you out big time physically and in terms of health.

Go down the fruit and vegetables section, in fact spend most time here, and start learning how to cook again using good fresh ingredients and GET USED TO IT, its not a fad, ITS GOING TO WORK FULL STOP.

Also get some lean meats in there, chicken, turkey, lean beef and get some fish in too, mackerel, tuna, salmon etc, lets make this a staple of your diet.

Make sure there’s some good carbs in there too, wholegrain and wholewheat pasta, brown rice, jacket, new and sweet potatoes, porridge etc, if the quality is good, then you’re going to look and feel good so lets give it your best!!!
