How many of you rely on your monday morning workout to get you going in the week?
It certainly gets me going and sets the tone for the week, it dictates the way i feel and dictates the energy levels all week long. If i eaat well all day and get a great workout in, i feel like doing more of the same all week long.
The other option for most people is to do nothing and sit in the chair on monday, but what kind of message does this send to our bodies. Does it say that sloth like behaviour is the new “us” and being active is a thing of the past?
If we dont get monday off to a great start, are we saying that we are somehow too old for all of this, and we should give up on ourselves?
Most of us will feel a bit rough on monday morning and for the first time this week, it was pitch black when i got up! Plus i have to put on the full lights on the car, as the longest day now has gone and the mornings are drawing in very quickly. I found it harder to get going today because of the light at 4.15am, it was a little colder and the thought of a huge day wasn’t as appetising as usual!!!
Now i feel much more into it, and already i feel i have some great momentum in my day. I have just had a small break and about to get right back into it trying to guide people through their own version of monday blues!!
This is why i always consider monday as my most important day for training, and getting a great session under my belt makes me feel as good as im going to feel. If i dont train today, i wont feel like myself and its like playing catch-up the rest of the week.
Let’s get out there and have a great workout today, you will feel amazingly good after a bath/shower and feel much more ready to face the week’s challenges to come!

Have always said that your not normal Ke, and reading the above confirms it. I have got my Mon off to a good start and I will do something this PM also, I have the feal good factor for a while but it does’nt last all week for me, it gets harder as the week goes on. Must admit not as enthusiastic about working out as I used to be, but I am trying to do something.
and you are doing extremely well jean, been motivated myself by your efforts this week, you have a huge engine inside that body of yours and it doesnt like staying idle!! well done and keep it up!!
i like to do my bike on a monday, wed and fri with the TG in between. That higher gear has made a diff, my legs burn right into the night?don’t know if they should be.Its not an unpleasant feeling quite like it.Made a differance finaly having a water carrier to put the bottle on the bike.Noticed its doing something to my arms has well 🙂
Yeah Cyril, my arms ache too when I cycle far enough, I think it is the bumps you go over, and your gripping the handle bars which makes your arms rigid, am I right Ke? Cyril you say that the higher gear makes it harder!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ke I thought if you keep in i a low gear you have to work harder, therefore you burn more calories? can you please clarify. And Keri, its sweet of you to say, but I doubt very much that any effort I make could motivate you, YOU ARE MR MOTIVATOR
jean, you are bang on right saying that your arms do get in discomfort on longer cycles, and it does take a long time to get used to all the extra distance.
The ideal gear to ride in is the one you can cycle 80 revolutions per minute, this is easy to see on a stationery bike but don’t know if you had that facility on your bike?
a lower gear as jean says would be better and try and use a higher cadence (in other words, your legs going faster so more revoultions per minute), using too high a gear can create unnecessary strain on your knees and back, use your gears wisely, thats what they are there for.
Your right about the knee pain when in a higher gear Keri. Tried it this morning, in a higher gear and that old pain in my left knee soon made an appearance, so went back down to my usual. I will count tomorrow the revolutions per minute. No I havent got a facility but if I count on the one leg should be ok. Found a bigger hill this morning and did 6 “CRAWLS” up, didn’t go all the way to the top, it will come, but found that the hill I did last week was not high enough, got to the top and was not GASPING really, so with this one I am sucking in the air, its got to hurt hasn’t it, or there is no point in doing it, no fun tho Ke. My eating yesterday could have been better, had 4 digestive biscuits b4 bed, will endeavour to do better 2day.
so me keeping the bike in a high gear doesn’t benefit me then Ker ie i’d be doing my legs the same in a low gear has the high then?i thought that if you could keep a constant speed in a higher gear it would be better than keeping it in a low gear ie wasting energy in other words????
But your not wasting energy Cyril, your burning more calories, I tried it your way this morning and my problem left knee started being painful after about 7 minutes. Perhaps its what your used to doing, it may be worth you trying it in a low gear and making up your own mind, but I have to agree with Keri, it does put extra strain on your kneecaps, for me. What do you mean when you say “I’d be doing my legs the same in a low gear as a high”? what do you want to do to your legs? I just use the bike to burn calories, dont think you will do much more that that, you wont build muscle by cycling, but you will slim your legs down with diet also. Tell us if I am mistaken Ke, you know better than me.
