I saw thousands of visitors arriving for the Beach Break live festival down pembrey country park earlier, and what a welcome sight they were!
This is bringing a lot of money into a community that has been particularly hard hit by the recession, and many pubs and taxi’s were seen up to their eyes with work earlier, this can only be a good thing because these businesses are either not even open or have little trade during this time. There are not many sustainable businesses in burry port, and this should be a welcome boost for them, despite all the negative comments they have issued in the press!
It always makes me laugh when some small town thinkers think that pembrey is doomed to be a place of sex, drugs and violence this week because of the festival, well ive got news for you, it is being run by a highly professional organisation who have done many such events in the past, and its nice to see a high police presence, sadly lacking in burry port usually. And the funniest thing is, anyone who lives in burry port/pembrey is well aware of the sex, drugs, booze, violence that goes on EVERY weekend here anyway!
My guess is that the event will be run very well, the economy will benefit hugely and the youngsters attending will have fun and entertaining time, what’s wrong with that?
Some people have the same small time thinking to their training, there is only one way to do things, there is a certain amount of time they need to train for, there are only certain movements or exercises they should do etc etc. The lack of variety in one’s training can seriously halt or push back your progress, just because you’re not prepared to do different things from time to time.
If you read through these pages, its encouraged you do different things, i do encourage putting firm foundations down, but this should be supported by varied activities which should also be fun. You should be getting more than sweat out of your workouts, you should be invigorated, energised and totally enthused about your week of training.
It helps too if you live by the coast, which many of you so lets get out there and use the coastal attractions, come on let’s really get out there and do it!!!
Please don’t do the SAME OLD routines every week, train inside AND outside, you will absolutely love it when you get all that fresh air down you, you don’t have to train in front of everyone and nobody likes an audience!
Its a nice week coming up so let’s walk the talk and do it, change it every couple of weeks and show how imaginative you can be, you are literally limited only by your imagination so lets do it!!

Hope your RIGHT. AS FOR TRAINING ON THE COAST, i CANT USE THE COUNTRY PARK FOR THE NEXT 6 TO 8 WEEKS, IT IS CLOSED TO THE RESIDENCE OF PEMBREY AND BURRY PORT FOR THE BIG CLEAN UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I pay my taxes for that place. Ho and lets keep the PUBS and TAXIS working, the pubs so they can get pissed up and the taxis to take them all the hell home. If the pubs are like the one next door to me, he will serve them until they cant stand, like he does at funerals. Altho I have been told that once they are in they cant get out until they are ready to leave, so what economy will that help. I cant speak for Burry Port Keri but Pembrey, SEX, DRUGS, BOOZE AND VIOLENCE, every weekend, no mate, I am not aware of this, booze yes, only when there is a funeral.
The Golf Club has been told that they cant use the holes down by the beach until this event is over, and then some. I cant speak for you villigers in BURRY PORT KERI, but THE VILLAGERS OF PEMBREY HAVE ALL BEEN GIVEN EMERGENCY NUMBER TO RING IN CASE OF TROUBLE, SO I DONT THINK THE ORGANISERS ARE THAT CONFIDENT. You always manage to get my back up mate, thought that I was the only one who didnt think before speaking. Anyway THIS SMALL MINDED VILLAGER is signing off.
Ho and Keri, they are herded off the trains and are not allowed to leave the station until BUSES come, I seen with my own eyes today a MARSHALL running after a youth who was trying to get to SPAR, they cant even use the shops mate, and buses are laid on, so taxis dont get a look in, I dont think these yougsters will pay for taxis, they would rather wait for a bus and keep there money for booze. But I do hope it goes well with no trouble, that we do agree on.
we agree to disagree jean then. If you speak to residents of burry port who live near burry port park, you will have endless stories of drinking and drugs, with syringes being found at regular intervals, this is well documented in the paper, and just about anyone you talk to.
Three weeks ago, kids were burning fires at the back of the new houses down the harbout and the beach was left in heck of a state, this is always well documented and well known by resisdents and are frustrated by lack of police action.
There are also problems particularly by the glanymor school on a regular basis, this is a fact that the police and residents tell me about regularly with house break ins and drinking and drugs being commonplace. I nearly bought a house there, but was warned off by police and residents who knew me.
You are the lucky one jean, pembrey does seem A LOT better and doesn’t suffer the problems we suffer in burry port.
Im all for money coming into burry port and the local businesses benefitting as much as possible, but isn’t this a start of bringing other things down? Unfortunately, the days of heavy industry are long gone and we have to look to other things?
I work a lot in mumbles as you know, and if it wasnt for the huge numbers of visitors on weeekends and sunny days, mumbles would be much quieter and not survive in its current form.
Apparently, someone from burry port phoned the radio yesterday saying that burry port now would “be full of aids” due to the festival!!! What century are we living in please??????
Im not accusing you of small mindedness jean, you know that, but i am commenting on some of the small mindedness shown by others.
Nice to have a debate anyway and good to hear from you!
also jean, i speak to those on all sides of this arguement, and i appreciate the reasons on both sides. Its just that im hugely positive on the area, and want all positive things to come to it, and long term i think this will bring the area some prominence and will encourage more people down here.
Plus, i dont believe everything i read in the paper anymore. one councillor said there would be no toilets there! there are toilets EVERYWHERE! The scaremongering has gone out of control, everyone is allowed their opinion, and great to have the debate but it wouldnt have been allowed unless strict health and safety is being closely adhered to.
I have had calls from 3 people who are there and loving it, there is no trouble, no drugs but there is a lot of booze around but youngsters will be youngsters. I want everyone to have fun and enjoy themselves.
People always complain that nothing comes to burry port, its time to embrace change which encourages us all to spend money in burry port, rather than llanelli, that cant be bad cant it?
for the record, it is clear i support burry port and its local businesses, and hope they all share in this week’s success, that will remain to be seen i suppose?
If they are not successful, then questions need to be asked of the council dont they? and i did see lots of taxis there but it is totally wrong for the council not to look after local taxis if thats the case?
I did hear the coop was cleaned out of food, and the pubs were busy, but as you say jean, they are not the businesses (pubs) we need to be enouraging to getting people drunk, so you’re totally right on that.
So who knows, we may be in a better place to judge in a couple of weeks time?
Yeah Keri, watch this space. Have been down to the country park earlier, marshall’s would’nt let me in, tried three different ways, marshall’s everywhere. Chatting to them, all very nice, they confirmed that no one can leave until the event has finished, I asked them where they were from as they had accents, most of them are brummies and follow these events all summer across the country, NO LOCALS WORKING THERE. I asked where they were staying and they said on site in tents, I asked about the ARTISTS, and they are staying in CARAVANS, so no hotels or
B & B. They said that all the catering and alcohol caravans and tents are like them, travel all over the country to events like this. My own neice and nephew who have a snack bar could not get a licence to go there, and they are a local business. DAVIES BUSES have got the contract to ferry people to and from the event, THE EVENT ORGANISERS ARE PAYING, I suppose its in the price of the ticket, cheaper than TAXIS. As I say they were all very nice, said they would let me in but another marshall would stop me futher on, so no point, but I got in anyway, I must know over 30 different ways, there are large FUN FAIRS THERE and every one was having a good time, the music started at 10am this morning, it was loud where I was sitting drinking my water, watching the BIG DIPPER, fencing everywhere but I could see through the gaps, but as I cycled out of the park I could barely hear it. I had one bench to do press ups and dips, and I managed to get to the set of wooden steps I use, so I did some of that, of course there are toilets everywhere. Of course there is HEALTH AND SAFETY THERE, but there are also an estimated 20,000 people, things can happen no matter what precations are taken. Like that teenager who got killed in ALTON TOWERS a couple of years ago, fell out of the ride, everything had been checked and passed by HEALTH AND SAFETY. If Burry Port is that bad Keri, I would move out of the area, Mumbles sound nice and most of your work is there anyway. We are looking for a piece of land also, we think we have found 5 acres over looking the beach down line. Anyway I hope all goes well down there, one of A staff has gone with her mates, she is having a good time and enjoying the weather. A quote from the FESTIVAL DIRECTOR IAN FORSHEW ” everything was sold out with Taxi Firms, Hotels and B & B Buzzing, and contracts worth £750,000 allocated locally” unquote. Just goes to show you CANT BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ IN THE MEDIA
training paul picton in the gym at 4pm tonight jean and a big van pulled up filled with kids and they launched 4 bottles of lager out of the van, i shouted at them to pick them up (which they did) and told them not to pee against the wall, there were toilets there.
Your posts are appreciated and inside info on the contracts is enlightening.
For the record jean, i dont trust the council or what the media tells us, they tell us what they want us to know full stop.
i can see your points are valid.
Burry port does have an anit-social problem unfortunately, thats why i would never live in the middle of the town, pembrey seems much quieter. Most kids are great, one or two spoil it for others but i give anyone the benefit of the doubt.
