Success leaves clues.

So does despair.

When you were on top form in life, a few things likely happened. You worked out regular so your energy and positivity was high, you felt great more often than not. You probably had an air of confidence and a smile on your face.

You had good friends, they applauded your achievements, and kept urging you to have a go at something you may doubted yourself on.

Stress came along for sure, but you faced it with your workouts, faced it with good positive people around, good times came along again and you usually saw the good in every situation.

When you hit your lows, it doesn’t happen straight away.

You stop having a go at things, you start coasting along in life and the “in the week takeaway or two” and bottles of wine start appearing in your recycling bags a lot more than you thought.

You start rationalising that you are getting “older” and maybe you don’t have enough energy to exercise anymore, perhaps you should indeed grow old “gracefully” as you new friends say, after all they hit the booze and takeaways a few times a week and on the surface, they are seemingly successful right?

Then one day you realise that you are in pain both mentally and physically, your joints hurt, everything hurts, but more than that a “freeze” hits your mind when you wonder what to do about it, and you are in a fog of self-doubt and despair.

You don’t believe that you can anymore, and this sudden lack of confidence and esteem hasn’t actually happened all of a sudden, it may have been years in the making.

Turning it all around is a battle, and but it’s a battle you must face HEAD ON. You must go back to thinking like you did in your youth aiming to get that feeling of possibility back in your life, even if your body doesn’t want to follow at the moment.

The “clues” that made you successful in the past need to happen.

Don’t jump into huge workouts, start off by simply showing up and keep showing up. This is the start of your journey back, and being back to your personal best is entirely possible, if you do it right.

Start filling your shopping trolley with foods that aren’t man made, that are fresh when possible and will actually make you feel better. This will be a huge part to re-igniting your body and mind. You are what you eat yes?

If your friends are the ones who only encourage you to drink, smoke, not exercise, eat badly, put you down all the time, then you will struggle big time.

Get into a positive environment and pick it wisely, you will be guaranteed to meet new people with a desire to get better, and that’s guaranteed to rub off on you too.

The clues are always there for you on what you need to do, deep down you know this is the truth.
