If you stop eating your favourite food completely, and I mean you never plan on eating it ever again, this is a perfect recipe to binge and go off the rails big time.

The best way to get around this is to still eat these foods that may be very high in fat or sugar or both, but eat them in much smaller portions. For example, if you had a habit of eating a whole pizza on a Saturday, and maybe a
Tuesday, then you were probably eating at least 1000 calories in one go, a ton of saturated fat and refined sugars.

If you keep it to one slice at a time only, thin and crispy to lower calories, and eat it slowly to savour the taste more, then this is perfectly acceptable once or twice a week. The main thing you would be doing though is consuming a fraction of your normal amount on a Saturday and Tuesday.

This alone will have the effect of you not seeming like being on a diet. Your saturated fat and sugar will drop dramatically. Your ability to eat a lot in one go (bingeing) will diminish greatly, and your behavior towards food will likely change permanently.

Once your brain realizes that its not on a diet, you will automatically relax and you will develop a far more healthy attitude to food, and be far more comfortable knowing that although you have to eat around 80% good healthy food, you will still be able to have one or two treats a week such as the pizza in this case.

After studying people’s habits for years, I have seen this situation many times turn out that the individual involved eventually goes off treats such as the pizza because they KNOW they can have it! Its when you know you cannot have something that usually makes it far more appealing!!

Try it out and see how you get on.

How to get your eating right

Write down what you eat and when/why you eat it, or what your drink and why you eat it. If you do this you can really see what you’re eating and drinking, how much more than you may need and what stresses are causing you do it. Once you know where you are, then you will know how not to get into situations in the future that destroy your progress.

Accurate food records for 3 days are the quickest way to fix your eating. If you are stressed, hungry or bored, there will be issues when you make food choices. Write down how long you are training for too because you will need more food on those days, and you cannot train on fresh air alone.

Are you skipping breakfast, nibbling on rubbish all day, overeating in the evening and late at night because you are so hungry you have to eat much bigger amounts of food than normal?

Do you entertain yourself with food when you are bored? Perhaps you reward yourself with chocolate when you’re stressed?

You may need to watch your moods when you eat, most people will feel better when they eat a tub of ice cream initially, but it does nothing for anxiety and stress you may be experiencing in your life. The problems that made you stressed in the first place are never really solved by the ice cream, and you just added a new one of piling on body fat if you do this regularly! You need to avoid this vicious circle.

If you eat food on a regular basis OTHER than giving you energy and health, then you need to recognize that food should be seen as fuel and not as an emotional crutch to get you through some stressful times.

Food becomes dangerous in terms of weight gain and in terms of worsening your internal health when it is eaten for entertainment, reducing stress or just making you feel more comfortable.

It’s a fact that no amount of food solves any problems.

For example, if you eat lightly during the day, and eat excessively at night like a lot of people I start with do, then try and change it right away by having a bigger breakfast, a decent lunch and lighter evening meal, with mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks. This way of eating will give you far more energy, keep you feeling fuller for longer, make you less prone to have sugary/fatty snacks and transform your body every single week. This is the way your become far more efficient in the way you create energy for yourself, burn fat, and create lean muscle which in turn boosts your metabolism greatly.

You won’t feel like eating late, and you’re going to be far more in control of everything so give it a go for better results.

Eating breakfast is something you should have done today without even thinking about it too much.

Eating breakfast is regarded as something you do within one hour of getting up.

Drinking water when you rise is a really great idea because it will help clean your system straight away, and set your body on a good path for the rest of the day. Drinking more water throughout the day will help you burn more fat, help a lot with digestion, and boost concentration levels as well as energy.

Eating a healthy breakfast will rev up your metabolism from first thing in the morning and greatly accelerate the rate your body burns calories.

Eating a good breakfast such as porridge, Weetabix, shredded wheat which are all natural products, will give you long lasting energy meaning you are less likely to snack on sugary foods to satisfy the cravings you will get from not eating breakfast or eating a very poor breakfast.

Starting the day right means you set the tone for the rest of the day. The slow and steady release of energy means that you stay in control of your food intake, less likely to make rash choices and your energy and concentration levels will remain much higher for the rest of the day.

Poached, scrambled, boiled eggs are all fine with dry wholemeal toast. This is again a slow steady release of energy and will fill you up for a much longer period of time (and more satisfying) than a sugary start to the day, or even worse missing breakfast. Natural yoghurt and fruit will help too and set your day up nicely.

Those of you who have fallen for the trap of telling yourself that its good to miss breakfast just to “save calories” are misguided and totally wrong. This is the biggest mistake you can make, and sabotage your fat loss plans. Get your body used to burning calories within an hour of getting up, and you will change the way you feel, look and perform full stop!

Monday 11th March

The recent wave of illness is a stark reminder on why we do this thing in the first place.

When we feel ill, we will do anything to feel anywhere like normal again! When we feel ill, its a sharp reminder sometimes of how much better we could have eaten, in terms of fruit and vegetables we could have consumed to have fought the germs that have invaded our bodies. We have a large level of bacteria in our bodies anyway, but im talking about the germs responsible for getting us a fever, the flu or stomach bug or whatever we may have now.

This is why we talk about our immune system so much on here, its times like these that talking about our health as a whole becomes so important.

If you think that all there is to talk about all day is simply losing weight and looking better, then you must be greatly mistaken and you need to re-evaluate what you are doing, and why you are doing it.

You have to accept the facts that the foods you eat have amazing qualities, and a whole range of benefits.

Of course, you want to look better, thats of vital importance. More important than that though is your overall health, and eating as many natural foods in their natural state will serve you very well. The right foods will revitalise you, will energise you, will make you more resilient in the face of illness and infection, and help you recover from even the most demanding workouts!!!

If you make sleep a priority too, because this is when you truly recover and replenish your energy stocks, replace and repair your broken down tissue after a long day and maybe a tough workout, then you will be very much on the right path to having an extremely tough immune system!

Thursday, 7th March

There sometimes is confusion of what I say in terms of food recommendations, most people seem to get it but its worth me going through it again with a few basics, and giving you what some people have “thought” I meant. Its easy to make mistakes on foods, so im bring some clarity here so there’s no doubt!

When it comes to milk, I do mean skimmed milk and at worst semi-skimmed milk. I DO NOT mean full fat blue top milk as some have thought. This choice alone can make a big difference to your diet, fat gain/fat loss, general health so sort it out and you advance quickly.

When I say tea and coffee is fine, I mean up to 3 cups a day, I do not mean several which can make you more irritable, dehydrate you and make poor snack choices such as biscuits with tea etc.

When it comes to red meat, its got to be once a week maximum, and the butcher will not mind at all giving you the leanest cuts, with most of the cut taken out.

When I say alcohol is fine in moderation, I mean once a week. I don’t mean a couple of glasses every day, I don’t mean drinking hard liquor just to cut calories such as gin, vodka, whisky which can be highly toxic to your body when drunk in excess. Wine may be more calories, but it travels easier through your body and is far less toxic.

When I say sip water throughout the day, and aim to get at least 1.5 litres a day in, I do not mean just drink one small bottle a day, this is only 0.5 litres and if you are training, you will easily need more than 1.5 litres. Get in the habit of drinking water throughout the day, and definitely through your workouts, your performances and wellbeing depend on it!

Just a few here but many more to sort out tomorrow!!
