New Years resolutions are great but they are 99% of the time broken by February. If there’s one thing you can promise to do this year though is keep “having a go no matter what”.

There will be times when you succeed, times when you will fail, and times you won’t feel like having a go at all.

I accept that many things I try won’t have the desired outcome initially, but with some resilience and finding the right approach, I’m going to get where I want to be if I keep having a go.

There’s strong evidence though if you keep having a go, keep REFINING your approach when something isn’t working, then you will eventually get it right. Nobody is good at anything first time, but with experience we can get good at anything and there WILL be mistakes, failures and disappointment along the way.

Listen to people who are rooting for you. Get rid of the people who don’t want you to succeed.

So this week if you have to miss a session, prioritise the very next day because you need to tell those around how important your health is, if they don’t know that already.

If something is important to you, and you TELL people CLOSE TO YOU how vital it is, then they will respect your decision which can bring you a lot of happiness and satisfaction in helping you to succeed.

This week is the start of a year again you dream of changing your life. You won’t get it right first time, but NEVER let a day go by without picking yourself up, and getting back and doing your best again.

Most people give up because one or two things go wrong. Those wanting you NOT to succeed are hoping you quit early to tell you “I told you so”.

Is this going to be the year of incredible change and you nail it once and for all, OR will quit at the first sign of hardship?

This is your first year of NEVER quitting, and doing what it takes to make 3 sessions a week, filling your shopping trolley with good nutritious food that’s going to help you, and finally choosing the friends and family that are really right behind you and push you through any moments of doubt that will surely come.

Friday 3rd January

Your starting point this year must be firmly established.

Most likely, you have put on weight this Christmas, your chest may be wheezing and things you used to find easy, you may now find a challenge.

Whatever gets you into positive territory compared to your starting point is a plus. No point being a hero and cutting everything out straight away because that’s not going to last.

Starting by making your workouts a priority is a start. If you aren’t with us 3 times a week, then your health and your progress will struggle no doubt. So if it’s one hour or half hour, anything is better than nothing.

Lots of you will be getting a new shop in this weekend, an ideal opportunity to make a statement about how you want your health to be this year.

If you want to continue having low energy and pain in your body, shop for ready meals, white bread, pop, alcohol, biscuits, crisps, chocolate-your misery will continue.

If you want high energy, pain to leave your body, your body get tighter again, feel good full stop, then please shop for fresh food when possible, shop for leaner produce, wholegrain everything, more fruit and vegetables, frozen fruit for your smoothies, drink more water and get to be earlier.

Remember today must be a line in the sand where you either move forward or fall back on a slippery slope.

Choices are things we all have every day, up to you which direction you want your life to go.

No matter how bad or good previous years have been, this is your fresh chance to do it right and we start again tomorrow. 

The message won’t change, no fads, no gimmicks and you will get outstanding results if you are willing to put the work in and show up, eat right and choose the company you hold carefully.

No matter how many new jackets, tops, shoes or new leases on new cars you make, those feelings of feeling better are just temporary and can often last only for minutes.

The feeling you get inside of exercising and eating right allows you endless opportunities if you give it time, give yourself the chance to let your body change, and let all the wonderful things that can happen because of it finally come into your life.

The feeing of pain leaving your body after committing yourself to exercise is only known by those who go through that process but they swear it life-changing. Who wants to be in pain forever and rely on tablets? You know exercise is the answer but you have to ditch that story you tell yourself that pills are the only way.

We have too many examples of people who have overcome terrible situations to become free in movement and so much happier in their lives.

The feeling of ecstasy of being able to go in a shop for the first time and pick a normal size in any style you want can be overwhelming, when you may have spent too many years getting clothes that have limited sizes and fashions because they have to be so big.

The great feeling of being in a new relationship because you exude self-confidence, positivity and happiness because of the new body you have created, and with it has come a new life, with new energy, a fresh and of possibility and you start to see the world differently.

What would you give to smash anxiety in the balls and for good this time? What would you give not to feel overwhelmed, not to feel that life controls you instead of the other way around?

Everything is waiting for you on this first day of 2020 to re-enforce what you KNOW will change you for the better, make you happier, make you finally ready to face any of the challenges that are bound to come, and most of all make you happy because you know you are doing your best, and nothing feels better when you are fit and well.

2020 is your choice again, the sooner you realise it’s only through your actions your life can change the better. Making it happen is down to you, being healthy is down to you, being happy is down to you, what’s it going to be?

Sunday, 22nd December

Last day in the gym tomorrow of the year so let’s make it a big one. You won’t get a message early tomorrow as I’m already up very early to do private training in Mumbles before I get to the gym and me waking you up in the middle of the night won’t go down too well I’d imagine, so please don’t think I’m being lazy.

I would love to see as many as possible of you to finish in style tomorrow. You can go shopping if you want but a half hour training or so will be making better use of your time, and give you more energy to do it later.

A special shout out to our fine ladies and gentlemen in the emergency services working throughout Christmas, they never EVER complain about working all the way through Christmas and they ALWAYS get their sessions in.

Big shout out to the retail staff in the shops you go too, putting on a happy face through long hours after dealing with a whole variety of customers, the still make their sessions too, and some of you are working Boxing Day too without complaint.

We have many in business too, and all of you get zero annual leave and put a ton of work in all year long making huge sacrifices that few understand, you know the score, enough said.

All of you off for a couple of weeks, I’m expecting a big session out of you tomorrow, we are open normal hours and treat your health as a gift, and see it as something you GET to do and not have to do.

I’m going out all guns blazing tomorrow, I consider it a compliment that some people want me in their house extremely early tomorrow and I’m revved up to do a great job. Then I’m flying back to the gym “driving home for Christmas” and ready to go flat out and get the very best out of all of you.
