Finally in the week before Christmas and how’s it going for you in terms of your exercising and eating?

It’s always a “finally” moment for all of those who have given up the ghost for their training in 2012. I must say i am lucky to train a relatively large number of individuals right up until christmas eve, as most people i am involved with now know the benefits of training all the way through.

If you expected some piece today about me agreeing with those of you who want to knock their training on the head right now, and pig out on mince pies and all the alcohol you can muster, then no, i’m really not going to do that.

I like to think i am very understanding but agreeing with people so they can feel out of breath, put lots of weight on, and feel nowhere NEAR as good as they normally do is a point of principle for me. I remember a lot of years ago that i had a couple of weeks off myself, and felt so bad that i said i WOULD never do that EVER again, the pain was really do much!!!

Those of you who are continuing to train (and there a many of you) have your monthly measurement come up. This is awfully brave of you late into december when everyone else seems to be losing their heads, but the feedback i get from most of you is that still doing your monthly measurement keeps you off the sugary and fatty foods, it keeps you exercising and in general keeps your standard very high.

If you’re involved in our way of doing things, then i take my hat off to you all who don’t want to be part of the crowd who are falling for all the christmas massive excess, and really want to fight it and stay in great shape ALL YEAR ROUND!!!

The choices are there for you, no excuses to get totally out of shape after working so hard all year!!!

Thursday, 22nd November

The famous christmas “let’s settle for no improvements, let’s just hold what we have” is alive and well this year again, perhaps even more so. This is your most dangerous mindset to avoid if you possibly can because its bound to end up in you putting ON weight, in my experience.

“Settling” for mediocrity shuts off something in the brain that usually makes you strive for success.

Once your mind isn’t in the right gear, then your workouts will soon become “go through the motions” events that will give us little in terms of benefits.

The next stage after settling for medicore returns is giving up your programme for december, another disasterous decision.

The next stage after that means “i will start back after christmas”! Many people actually do this!! Then they find out that they should never have stopped training in the first place because training after christmas after a break is EXTREMELY TOUGH!!!

When things are tough, the prospects of following through on a programme diminish dramatically, as not everyone has got the right in them to see it through!

This is why most people who start a programme after christmas tend to quit by Valentine’s day at the latest!! Please do not end up as one of those sad statistics!!

This is why i come back to saying that you need to aim to improve from RIGHT NOW again and maybe for the first time, december can really become one of your BEST month’s, instead of becoming one when you end up piling on the weight, you end up becoming breathless just climbing a flight of stairs, and your friends and family start asking you that dreaded question “have you put weight on?!!!”.

I have seen all of these stages work out different ways, but taking my advice and actually acting on it will mean a great deal for your overall christmas happiness and success starting off in 2013!!!!

Wednesday, 14th December

Making fresh goals in the run up to christmas may seem alien to most, but it may be exactly what you need!

If 2012 seems a long way away, you may be shocked to hear its only 18 days away!!! 18 days left until the end of the year!!!

If it seems stupid to look forward  until then, you may be glad you did in a couple of weeks.

Only once did i decide not to train for a couple of weeks over christmas, and i suffered like never before!

My asthma came back in a big way, i was wheezing like i was on 40 a day! My first run back nearly half killed me and i felt as much out of shape as i have ever done!!!

After that run, i decided there and then NEVER to stop training over christmas again!!!

I have spoken to many, many people since and they have been through the same thing.

I have even been running christmas day, thats not to impress you but it was more to do with my desperation  to rid myself of that wheezy stodgy feeling that comes with over-eating, over-drinking and under-exercising!!!

This is to potentially save you those horrible interal feelings of no energy, and literally no get up and go.

So whatever schedule you are on now, i would try to still keep it up to some degree. If you currently workout 5 times a week in some form, i would still try and do 3 times a week even if its light to moderate intensity. This will take care of all the excess calories and help you feel more like your normal self.

The big thing it will also give you is a flying start to 2012!!! Just when everyone else will be going through the Groundhog day of starting to exercise and eat healthy, you will already be making fresh goals from a very strong position!!!

If that sounds attractive, lets get going and keep on going!!!!
