The pursuit of excellent is continuously being shown by Andy Murray.

He may not have won yesterday, but in his own words, he is “getting closer”!!

It didn’t help of course he came up probably the greatest ever player, but he did have Federer on the back foot for some considerable time.

Hopefully, he will get at least one grand slam and hope  to see it soon.

It never ceases to amaze me the amount of hate and vitriol he seems to get especially online, when most of it is surely unjustified. I think everyone will agree he showed his “human side” after his tearful speech while accepting his runner up trophy.

Another sporting hero who is getting a hard time at the moment is Bradley Wiggins. You would think that being the first ever British cyclist to be favourite for the tour de france would be a big thing, but apparently not.

The press have turned it into a personal hate and smear campaign against Wiggins, and this time mainly from the french and spanish press. They cannot accept that wiggins is NOT on drugs, and that he MUST be doing something illegal to be such a favourite!

They forget that wiggins won three g0ld medals, and should really have had a fourth gold medal if mark cavendish had shown up on form that day.

Wiggins was also fourth in the tour de france three years ago, was tenth the year after after losing form, and was in great shape last year only to crash out with a broken collarbone.

This year he was won the paris-nice classic, the tour of romandie, the dauphine de libere so i hardly think he has somehow got “lucky” this year!!

Wiggins has shoved two fingers up at his detractors this year, as has murray.

Wiggins will surely be a grand tour champion in perhaps the world’s toughest sporting event, Murray needs one more step.

Time to stay positive and get behind our sporting stars.

Monday 4th july-Independence day!

Good vibrations for your health always begin at the start of your week and your future ambitions depend on it.

A few pints on a Saturday and Sunday without any exercise can lead to a bleary eyed start to the week. We all like to talk about Monday being AN ABSOLUTE MUST for your best possible start to the week.

It may hurt a bit more than normal on a Monday, depending on the how excessive the weekend you have had, but that short term pain will be more than worth it, because it sends massive signs to your body that you want it to fix itself after the weekend, and you want your metabolism to be in top shape and firing on all cylinders.

You will never become a fat burning machine unless you practice the principles we talk about on here all the time.

Working out hard takes a lot of concentration too, so you need to get on with it and think about what you’re doing, and trying to improve nearly every week can be tough, but it is achievable of course.

By all means talk and mess around in your workouts, it’s a free country after all but this is a sure way to very poor results, in fact some gyms encourage that type of behaviour, as all they concentrate on is your direct debit, and then forget about you. These places make me sick of course but at least be honest with yourself and rate yourself on how hard you are actually training, remember just “showing up”, “going through the motions” and just having a “gym membership” is not going to get you very far.

Our body judges us by actual deeds. Your workouts will get you a good return on your investment if you’re prepared to work. Your intake of fresh natural foods will get you’re another good return if you are consistent.

Monday is a time to be honest with your body and get fired up for another big week!

Friday 1st July

Nadal faces an in form Andy Murray today, and the big question is “will he do it this time”?

That question is seemingly asked every single year and this year is no different of course.

Great of the game such as Borg and McEnroe insist Murray can finally do it this time, no question. Nadal has a suspected foot injury and Murray has a niggle with his hip, and his ankle but i don’t think either are making any excuses!

Most say that if Murray wins this one, then he will go on to win a few grand slam titles. The confidence of winning a big one will transform him and his confidence levels.

Thats the big thing of course, confidence and knowing deep down you can do it!

That’s the big thing for you too, and many of you keep telling me the same thing all the time. You managed to do it once, or even twice and you can’t work out why you can’t get into great shape anymore.

The problem comes when you aren’t willing to be honest with yourself anymore.

Are you really eating now the way you were when you were in top shape? Are you really that disciplined anymore and are you willing to make the sacrifices on food and alcohol you once were? Come on be honest with this question!!!!

What about your exercise levels? Do you find it easier now to cancel workouts at a drop of a hat? Have you stopped putting challenges into your workouts? Are you more of a “go through the motions” type of person now? Are you striving to be the best you can be, or are you someone who claims that walking the dog is “more than enough exercise?!!!!!

Serious questions have to be asked if you are not getting closer to your goals anymore, it doesn’t matter if it takes a long time, as long as you are moving in the right direction, then you and i should be happy with that.

Murray in fairness has worked hard to get closer to his goals of winning a grand slam title, and is almost there. The question is can he go one step further and the other big question is are you moving closer to your dream of being in great shape and having outstanding health, which should always go together of course!!!!

Murray through

Great to see andy murray getting through in the tennis, know some people dont like him and some on here, but a great semi-final awaits with nadal surely. I will be backing him for one, and i know nadal is a favourite for everyone but would be nice for murray to upset the form book.

Bit disappointed when i heard federer making excuses for losing. He complained about his back, then his leg but he still gave “respect” for his opponent, who still “played well” he said! I have had enough of federer’s excuses and his lack of grace when he loses, very sad from a great champion but ive noticed he does it every time he loses. You never get nadal doing that.

The fitness on these guys (and gals) is simply amazing! How many of you have ever tried playing even 3 sets, leave along the 5 sets these guys play. Then add on the heat on court, the standard of play, the ferocious serves you can hardly see around your ears, the pressure at this level, and the unbelievable standard, simple as that it is terrifying!!!

I give all the players who even reach wimbledon the utmost respect, and they have to PLAY all year too, its literally a 11 month season, and then they have to spend the last month preparing for the start of the new one in australia!!!

Whoever you want to win, hope you enjoy the last few days, and this is when it gets REALLY exciting!!

Fresh attitude

Sometimes the best way to feel fresh and enthused about your training is to look for new standards and take a look at all the sport going on at the moment.

Some of you cycle a lot, and the main event is about to start this saturday, the tour de france of course. Lance Armstrong says its his last tour and although the 3 weeks can seem like a bore for some, i will be glued to this game of chess on a bike. If you watch it every day it can be addictive as you learn about tactics and why certain riders don’t do the obvious things at times, saving energy for later even more incredible feats.

All of this will add to your own performance in your cycling. You will take notice of your own bike more and its maintenance, how to improve your own performance and how to get faster and eventually use less energy, that has to be the goal.

Whenever you follow a professional sport, and you see athletes do it better, most of us are inspired to get better ourselves.

It could be the world cup, and what youngster doesnt want to play magical football like the Brazilians.

Its always good to strive to be the best we can be, and all of this interest you may now be showing in sports, Wimbledon, the world cup, summer rugby internationals, the tour de france etc will give you a whole new fresh attitude that will put fresh vigour into your training and eating.
