Water burns fat every time!

The news that drinking an adequate supply of water in your diet burns a lot of fat should come as no surprise.

Studies show that most of us suffer from mild dehydration from time to time.

The latest studies show that if you have a couple of glasses of water before food, it makes your brain signal to your stomach that you feel full, and this means you are likely not to overeat.

Adding a healthy supply of water to your diet also helps in everything internally in your body function that much better. This means that you will get rid of the bad stuff in your body that much quicker and keep your bodily functions working very well indeed.

A big thing for me when i consume enough water is feeling more energy in my life. I feel as if my concentration is spot on and i’m raring to take on any task, honestly that’s true!

You can always tell if you’re dehydrated when you’re thirsty. This is why sipping at water throughout the day is always better than trying to take huge amounts in one go.

Sipping throughout the day will help you not go to the toilet so much too. Nothing worse than consuming huge amounts in one go, and then going to the toilet 3 times an hour afterwards!

When you go to the toilet, have you noticed your urine is sometimes cloudy or bright yellow. You need to get it more clear if you can, as being clear in appearance would be a sign that most of the impurities in your system have been passed out and you are fully hydrated.

This is probably the most important element for you if you really examine the evidence.

For example, remember the hunger strikers in northern ireland in the 70’s and 80’s?

Well, i remember bobby sands famously went 56 days without food, and this brought him close to death.

When it comes to water, the human body can usually last around 5 days before coming close to death! 5 days!! In 3 days you are likely to harm your health so this shows how vital water is!

The bottom line from all of this is stay hydrated and raise your performance to their maximum levels, which brings all sorts of benefits!! This may be the missing element for many of you. Forget all the faddy sports drinks full of sugar, get your water in to much needed levels 1.5-2 litres and feel fantastic on all levels!!!

Ever tried?

For those who don’t have heavy weekends now and again or dont go out for drinks, or stay in for drinks, this doesnt really apply to you, but have you ever tried not drinking alcohol at the weekend, especially if you usually drink every weekend?

I have a few drinks the weekend now and again, not so much as i used to when i was a kid, but i know the difference now certainly between  not drinking and drinking!!

Drinking the alcohol on the weekend can mean a subdued start to the weekend for me and most people i know. I get around this by going for a very early sunday morning run, and the result is usually amazingly positive, i feel great after that run and hit monday hitting the ground running very quickly, if you pardon the pun!! I have mentioned this many times of course.

So what about the rest of you? Do you practice sunday morning workouts to get rid of your excesses?

Most of you must have and although it seems a horrible thought to do a workout after a big night out, but the results are always more than worth it!

What about the moments when you eat lots of rubbish and instead of giving up the ghost for the weekend or even the week and continue to eat badly, it encourges you to get out there and train and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!

I have had many such moments and you could even use this food which you normally don’t eat as EXTRA energy on your longer bike rides, your big running workouts or your tough inside workouts, how about seeing it as an opportunity rather than a feel sorry for yourself moment?

Every situation can be a different opportunity for you, good or bad.

None of us are perfect, and its about how we react to what life throws at us is the most important factor every single time!

So the title to all of this shoud not really be have you ever tried not drinking the weekend and feeling amazing on monday.

It SHOULD be have you ever tried reacting hugely positively to each and every situation that comes your way?

I didnt say it was easy but it can become a very valuable habit for you and transform your workouts, your health, just about everything!!!

Graveyard of ambition?

Was it DylanThomas who said that Swansea was the graveyard of ambition?

This may or may not be true depending on your point of view of course, but here’s my experience with the surrounding area, and probably goes for all of the country.

You will always get someon with ambition, it probably starts with being a child in primary school and being asked what you want to become when you grow up.

Most people give examples of jobs/professions that have some status in society and roles that usually do the community some good.

Then we get into secondary school, and depending on the crowd we hang out with, we either get more ambitious and get more excited, get less ambitious and more cynical, or we feel a sense of hopelessness, not knowing the direction our lives are going to take when we leave school.

Then when we leave school, we either go to college, we get a job which is hard to do in the current harsh economic climate, or we simply “sign on”, or go on a course.

You can see by taking any of those paths, our ambitions are going to vary greatly. If you hang out with those who have no jobs, the ambitions discussed every day are likely to be minimal, and standards are going to be fairly low to begin with. A lot of people are in this situation, because of the jobs leaving the ecomony seemingly all the tie, this is truly tragic and i feel sorry for al those put in that situation, working your way out of it is incredibly difficult, but can be done. I’ve seen many do it, and achieve great respect from it.

When it comes to exercise, the facts in the UK are that most people DO NOT exercise regularly 3 times per week. This means that when most people have conversations about exercise, the likely tone is bound to be negative.

If you speak regularly to people who want the best for themselves, their health, their fitness, just about everythig, the tone is likely to be very upbeat, and the tone is likely to be about possibility, not negativity.

So you can see that swansea could indeed be the graveyard of ambition, but it could also  this amazing place of possibility too, and to be honest, i see this a whole lot more than the negative side. I also see negativity from time to time, but choose not do dwell on it and try to see the possibilities out there, and with people’s health. Those of you who know that being fit and healthy is an absolutely fantastic place to be, and im here to help you get there!

Forget the downsides and the doomsayers you hear each and every day, lets prove them wrong, even in these very difficult fiscal times!!

August to autumn

One of my favourite seasons, the stretch from august into october, you will have colder periods of the day from now on believe it or not, going right into the complete season change of late/september october.

This is the time of year you realise you should have done all of those late night workouts in the summer, when you really did have all that extra light to train. Now you will be forced to put your workouts in with slightly darker mornings coming into play, and definitely shorter nights.

This is exactly when you need to make the most of your routine’s, your structure’s and really make sure you have a plan that’s sort of bulletproof from now.

Instead of viewing your workouts as something you have to fit in somewhere, or you will do your best, make it an ABSOLUTE MUST!!

Making the commitment is the biggest thing you can do right now, lets make it happen and im not putting up with any excuses you may normally make at this time of year!

So your workouts now have to be the most important appointments you set up from now on.

You never miss a dental appointment do you? Do you not turn up for a solicitor? How about meeting your friends down the pub, do you miss that? I thought not.

So when you’re planning everything out this week in terms of things you MUST do, i want workouts in there too, because if you reall want to be in great shape, your commitment needs to be the FIRST thing to change.

Are you ready or not!!

Calendar of workouts

A good way to chart your progress in an unconventional way is to log your workouts on the calendar in your house.

You may be surprised how often you train, or indeed how little you actually train!

This has often been an eye opener for many people and often tells the harsh truth on how well you may be doing or not, and more importantly why!

If you are on of the few who workout 3 times or more per week, thats at least 12 workouts a month-MINIMUM.

That’s going to be a minimum of 144 workouts a year or more, and that’s going to guarantee you some serious progress as long as your eating is under control.

How many of you can honestly say this? Do you have “lost” weeks here and there, that is VERY destructive to your progress so have a long hard think on why things aren’t progressing the way you thought.

The actual process of writing down your workouts can be very powerful. It has been proven by scientists that if you tend to write your goals down regularly, you are likely to achieve 80% of them. If you don’t, the research says that mediocre results are more likely. When you have more of a plan, you are likely to be successful in whatever you choose to do.

This is all part of you getting serious, and making much more of your training. Don’t become a victim of not being committed and eventually losing interest in your health and fitness plan, or should i just say health and fitness?

The reality of most people i meet is that not many stick to a well structured plan. Fortunately all the people i train stick to it, well most of it anyway and show up for every session, if they don’t, i tell them they are wasting their time and money.

It’s best to be honest with people, and this is the way to perform and get the very best out of yourself for the rest of your life. Log your workouts, assess your progress once a month and be consistent, thats the true secret!
