The benefits of being on a roll can never be understated.

Lets start off with what happens when nothing’s going your way, you’re putting weight on and you’re not feeling good about yourself. How long does this period last? Weeks, months, or even years? Is this really acceptable to live your life like this? Is your life a misery when you’re overweight, not fit and don’t feel even 5% of what you were before at your best, you do not feel attractive any more, you have no energy any more and your aspirations and dreams are firmly stuck in the sand!!!

The good news is that it DOESN’T HAVE TO BE THIS WAY!!! And don’t let anyone tell you otherwise, i will repeat, don’t listen to all of those people who rip you off, don’t listen to all those “cowboys”, yes COWBOYS, thats what i call them anyway, you may call them charlatans!!!

Im talking about those companies who pray on your insecurities!!! They are the companies who want you to pay £75 a week to drink shakes all week instead of eat food, sure you may lose lots to start with, but can you really drink shakes instead of eat food all your life? I thought not, and just way for the big weight gain after it all finishes!!! Charlatans every one of them!!

You shouldnt have to put up with green and red days either, points or other cowboys who are out to fleece you out of all of your money, DON’T PUT UP WITH IT PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They make me want to puke at times, its that maddening!!!

Anyway, promise yourself today that you will approach your health and fitness with a very big positive attitude!!! You WILL eat well 80% of the time, you WILL EXERCISE at least 3-4 times a week, and you will not quit every time things don’t go your way!!! Life is not perfect so you had better be prepared to last the course this time, and im here to help!!!

Jean and debs have already commited to achieving big things with their body and mind again, its time cyril got onboard too, you have my number cyril i believe or if not, email me on fitness@kerimckibbin.co.uk

No time to waste everyone, lets do it!!!!

April 5th 2011

Its tuesday already and the great news is i feel alive again. After a weekend of being away and eating not so good food, my energy levels have returned, simply by getting back to normal which is an amazing feeling!!!

Hopefully, some or most of you are going through exactly the same feeling and realise that your normal routines can be much more valuable than you ever thought!!! I know my porridge is very valuable to me in terms of energy and internal health, nothing to beat it.

I know my chicken, turkey, lean beef is going to serve me well, keeps me lean and feeling as hard as possible.

My fish is vital to me, to keep my joints in good working order and to keep those essential fatty acids working very well all the way throughout my body, life feels good when there is fish in my life, plus i get to stay lean too, its a win win situation for me!!!

Then theres the other good carbs apart from porridge, which is the wholegrain pasta  and sweet, new and jacket potatoes, all great vegetables that give me energy and keep me lean, provided i don’t slam lots of butter in the potatoes of course!!!

Then theres the rest of the veg, i feel instantly better outside and inside when i get my daily supply of vegetables. Same with fruit, lots of energy going in and lots of nutrients going in the whole time, if you consume fruit the way i do, the better you will feel and hopefully you will know the same great feeling.

What about water? When we are away, we tend to drink much more coffee and tea, plus alcohol!!! Having water back in my life makes my energy levels and awareness go through the roof, this is the time to be full of energy, full of vitality, full of enthusiasm and try to make things happen, despite what the economy is going!!!!!!!

24th March 2011

We talked about cycling in a different way yesterday, lets talk about different ways of running today.

First of all, running on mindless flat roads is one of the most boring things I could think about doing, some people enjoy it but I like to make things a little more interesting and a lot more productive in terms of results!

Since we live in a pretty hilly country, there’s never a hill that far way fortunately, and sometimes vicious hills!!!

Hills will always get you working harder, going uphill works your legs better, makes your lung capacity push on to new levels, helps bring your body fat down quicker, gives you a greater sense of pride and achievement having completed them, gives you some great views when you get to the top and in general provide some great workouts!!!

This is why I head straight to them every time!!!

Another thing you have to look at. On sunny days, you will see plenty of people walking or running on flat roads. You won’t see many if any people running or walking hard up hills, those you do see working hard up hills will nearly always be in good shape.

If you want to look at where people in great shape train, go to the more obscure parts of the area, these people are never on show and never want an audience. They want a place where is quite but offers great challenges in terms of terrain. You feel great when you walk hard or run up a very steep hill or even mountain, there’s nothing like that feeling when you develop your potential from only being able to walk 10-20 minutes on the flat to being able to run up a mountain, it may sound far fetched to some of you but it is totally achievable, I can guarantee that!!!

So today, tomorrow or the weekend, by all means warm up on the flat roads or track, but head for the hills and experience a brand new set of results that will astound you in all sorts of ways!!

21st March

A fresh week full of optimism and the chance to attract good things into your life.

If you get an absolute blaster of a monday in, you know as i’ve said many times before, you have a much greater chance of having a very good week. Nothing feels better than working out hard at the start of the week, and chances are you will not really feel like it at all to start with, especially maybe after a heavier weekend than planned. We have all been through it but today is the day to get your head down to work hard and set strong foundations down for the future.

This is the mantra a lot of business people i come into contact with daily, they now say that getting your head down and working harder than ever is the only way to get through this recession. If you do this, then the overall result of your efforts is likely to be a lot better even than you had hoped for. This is certainly my strategy and to embark on this you need a structure in your life that will set you up to be successful!!! Its like doing a job every day, week in week out, every week of the year for years, there are certain things you have to do or everything is going to fall apart.

Like we always talk about, you shouldnt have weeks when everything is unbalanced. You need to be doing your resistance work/weights EVERY week along with your cardio work (running, walking, biking, swimming for example) EVERY week, this is the balance you need for all types of reasons. This is what you need to be successfull full stop and the big question is how much are you going to apply yourself to it. If the answer is a lot, then you will be successful beyond your wildest dreams, im talking about applying yourself to do at least 4-5 times a week in training terms, and to your eating 5-6 times a week, concentrating on putting some good nutritious food into your body nearly all the time, still having time for the occasional treats, but treats should never form the foundation of your diet.

Do these things right now and this week, and then every week and things will fly for you!!

March 15th 2011

The little decisions we have to make every day with food and exercise are put into context by our one big decision.

That one big decision is the one when you first started to workout and eat much better.

It could have been down to you being fed up with the way you looked and felt, it could have been because you were always teased about your weight, if you are a man, you may have been teased about being so skinny and weak, you may have always wanted to take part in a sporting event such as a 10k run or maybe a marathon.

Whatever it may have been, its time to remember that feeling all over again when it comes to your workouts and the way you shop for food.

If you’re buying chicken for example for you weekly eating at home, it really is not acceptable to have processed chicken with lots of additives all over it.

There was one such example this week when I saw that gentleman Levi Roots of reggae reggae sauce fame promoting frozen chicken. He was promoting the most pitiful small piece of chicken you have ever seen, and it was filled with additives and sauces you would never recognise the ingredients of!!! This was £2.20-2.50, and could maybe last one serving and that’s it.

Not only was it not any good for you, it wouldn’t even fill you up properly!!!

Compare that with buying a whole chicken to cook for around £3-4 or even a ready cooked one for up to £5 and you have many different meal options, as well as being very healthy as long as you strip off the skin of course.

These are the decisions that need to be made time after time to make sure you’re going to be in great shape. If you put in rubbish, then , you’re not going to look or feel good full stop. Its time to have a good hard think next time you’re buying all these examples of food, I call them examples because they are not proper food and they are not going to serve you well!!!

Eat natural, eat fresh where possible and keep filling your body with high nutrient, high energy food that is going to take you where you want to go!!!
