Tuesday, 25th October

Following on from yesterday, have you started to cut down on the things that cause you the distress of putting on weight, or better still, have you CUT OUT the things that cause you all of that distress of piling on the weight?!!!

It is a painful experience  to have someone ask you if you have put on weight, and there are usually two responses you decide to undertake.

1. You get really depressed about it, saying to yourself that you can’t do anything about it anyway, and you exercise even less and eat even more, after all, it “tastes good” doesnt it?!!!

2. You get the fire in your belly again and immediately the next day you go back to the tried and tested strategies that have served you so well in the past, and promise yourself that you’re not prepared to live your life again with all the extra weight, and you are going to do something about it right now!!!

Number two is something i have experienced myself and nothing makes you madder than someone telling you have put on weight. You either do this or you bury your head deep in the sand, and somehow hoping that it will all turn out okay in the end!!!!

The first couple of days of getting your eating to well-controlled and sensible levels is admittedly very hard, but once you break the back of it, it WILL get easier i promise you, and DOING SOMETHING about your body instead of “wishing it could be better somehow” is heck of a lot better and you know it!!

Plus there’s no better feeling of losing body fat, getting clothes to feel better and showing the commitment needed to do so, the pride and self-satisfaction you get from achieving this worthy goal will beat any short term uncomfortable feelings of cutting your food down a little bit!!!

Time to get onboard now and make yourself feel the best you could possibly be by christmas time!!!

Monday 24th October

As the urgency increases towards christmas, just 8 weeks sunday away, you had better be showing some urgency towards your health too!!!

Whats more important? The christmas tree or your health? Rhetorical question to most but not to all i’m sad to say!!!

If you are indeed struggling with your weight, you may be eating too much do you think? There’s a fair chance on that statement being right and the big question is what can you do about it now?!!!

You should for starters have a pretty decent idea by now on what works for your body and what doesn’t? That shouldnt be rocket science if you have been reading on here for a while. The hard part comes when you realise the moment you have put on weight, and WHY!!!

The putting on weight process never starts quickly, its usually more of a gradual process.

Weekend pizza on a saturday turns into a regular event, and sometimes turns into all weekend.

For example, you could do some shopping every week and sometimes go in the local market, you pick up some welsh cakes and your long lost love of welsh cakes is suddenly rekindled, and you start making them a regular feature of your weekly shop!!!

This means your sweet tooth is all of a sudden well and truly alive!

Then you will excuse yourself a bag of chips in the week, and some fish, pretending the fish is healthy even though it has a mountain of batter on it!! They are nice but can heavily disrupt your fat loss programme.

Then plain porridge isnt good enough for you, it has to be the one with sugar and syrup.

Then your one day a week alcohol turns into a saturday and wednesday affair, because “you are stressed”.

Your vegetables suddenly have to be soaked in salt, because they are “too plain”, so your whole eating programme goes from plain to highly “flavoured”.

These type of changes can make the difference between your body feeling “like a sponge” and something to be proud of.

Depends on what you want, but we both know which result takes more effort.

Get back on the right road and start being all that you could have been, and your diet is a key area for all of this to happen so lets cut out all the “flavourings” and make it happen!

Wednesday, 19th October

Nine weeks left to christmas, and you can definitely tell this if you walk into B and Q for example, and the vast array of christmas trees and decorations they already have there!!!

I have always been puzzled by some people’s lack of drive for training up to christmas, as for me its a great time to hit your best levels and standards.

For example, the most popular time to get into shape is always after christmas in january, when most people have piled on the pounds from eating and drinking too much, and non-existant exercise of course!!!

The effort to try and get going from that situation is unbelievably hard, yet people do it in their droves with often very limited success.

When you are at your heaviest, the motivation you have is usually low and your self-esteem is even lower. So the confidence and drive needed to get going can be too much for a lot of people i have spoken to.

Compare that situation in january and the one y ou have now. You shouldnt have eaten too much by now, you should still be exercising to a certain level and generally its not exactly party season so your sleeping habits should be farely good too.

The step up from here shouldnt be that dramatic to get into great shape?!!!

You won’t be wheezing hard like you do in january from all the increased efforts in your workouts?

You wont have a big sweet tooth to overcome that you would have definitely developed over christmas and beyond?

The great foundation you could develop now from giving your best to your training and eating could be phenomenal!!!

Nine big weeks would make the difference between you going into christmas with real momentum and looking your best, or going into christmas overweight and unfit and no momentum and a grim effort in the new year to come!!!

Your time is right now so lets make it happen!!!

Friday, 14th October

Promising to get onboard an exercise programme and committing yourself to a lifetime of being in shape is what everyone wants but not everyone is prepared to go through the essentials every week for that to happen.

Lots of people want to do it, but never get around to it.

For example, i know lots of people who went to australia, then came back and then promised to fill in all the application forms and go there for life. The reality is that it never comes off and they talk a good game the rest of their lives, or at least a few months. Good luck to them if they do go but i also know a ton of people who come back after finding out that the grass is not always greener the other side. Life is not all neighbours and beer unfortunately!!!

So as we approach this friday, i take it you have got through some well-executed workouts, really given your best, haven’t spent too much time on the treadmill, you have got on with the really tough alternatives that actually work.

This welsh rugby team currently regarded as possibly the fittest in the tournament don’t spend too much time on treadmills either, they are looking for the exercises instead that will give them more bang for their buck.

If you have never worked out with a medicine ball, then you’re seriously missing out on big results.

If you thought a swiss ball was just something to sit on or look good under the stairs, then you’re missing out on your best results.

If you have never done a bodyweight exercise, then go ahead and carry on working on those fancy machines, and live a life of mediocrity!!!!

Its the end of the week, wales have their biggest game ever tomorrow, literally, so try and put a huge friday workout in, and possibly an even better early morning saturday workout in, you will be GUARANTEED to be inspired and finish off the week in a perfect way!!!

Thursday, 13th October

A story in the newspapers yesterday has brought many questions and may be needlessly so, but they must be answered so here goes.

RUNNING MAKES YOU FAT! Was the headline in at least The Independent and probably the daily mail (the most sensationalist paper of the lot! And interesting to know that they supported the nazi party before world war 2!).

The bottom line of the article was that many people been interviewed were complaining that they never lost weight for years despite their running efforts.

They developed bad knees and backs, sometimes weak ankles and the results were never worth it!!!!

The stories kept on coming in like people obsessed with distorting the truth.

If you carry too much weight, you WILL be putting a strain on by running on hard surfaces and longer distances. This will affect your joints and back and the pain will be magnified that much more if you wear poor trainers.

A 200 pound runner will put 600 pounds of pressure through their joints because of the pounds, so its important to do everything right.

The biggest thing I haven’t mentioned here is FOOD INTAKE.

What was common throughout these stories was that none of them had really changed their diet. They were still eating lots of sugar and lots of saturated fat.

Another common factor was that they would have a big “treat” if they did well on a run, and that often included a trip to a fast food outlet, or to the cake shop!!!

It could be an excuse to drink more alcohol or to eat a fried breakfast.

The story continued to run and this was the recurring theme. People really thought that they could run off anything, and they deserved to be in shape despite eating badly.

The fact is you cannot “run off” a bad diet, the calories will be too overwhelming. Say you have a great run and you burn 400-600 calories, that can easily be outdone by a couple of beers of glasses of wine, you can easily eat 1000 calories at McDonalds!!!! Or more!!

Unless you change your diet to good fresh natural foods, you’re always going to be one of those who may complain that “running makes you fat”!!!!

Change today and get the results  you really deserve!!!
