New Year’s Eve 2010

The number one resolution made around the world every year at this exact time, well 12 o’clock tonight anyway, is the one to adopt a healthier lifestyle and lose weight.

Despite these good intentions, it turns out 60 something per cent of our population is classed as overweight. 30 something per cent of them are classed as obese and in extremely poor condition.

Most people who make these resolutions only use words. They often forget that results that mean something require action on a regular basis, for the rest of your life in all cases and this seems like the speed bump in most people’s lives.

It’s really no good temporarily putting quick fixes in your life with faddy diets come January. Sustained commitment and sustained action are the keys to you being super successful or going around in circles again. Most people I know who have finally “got it” don’t really have to make “resolutions” again, because their habits are so engrained in their life now.

When exercising is important to you, you realise it’s the thing that usually makes you tick. When eating properly is part of your life, you notice quickly when you fall off the rails a bit, because your energy levels disappear and you become this hugely irritable person that’s not that nice to be around anymore!

Einstein said that its madness to do the same old thing every time and expect a different result.

This is what new year’s resolutions are all about, doing the same thing every year and expecting a different result, it doesn’t happen!! Weight loss clubs are expecting you to join them YET again and pay for the privilege of losing the weight and putting it ALL back on again AND MORE. Is this an annual experience for you or have you really had enough this time?!!!!

Perhaps the most important thing you can do this year is not only make your resolution, but promise to take sustained action at the same time, this way you are far more likely to succeed. Commit yourself for the whole of 2011, you will have some ups and downs but if you finish 2011 in better shape than now, then you will have been very successful, how many people can say that after all?

Have a good one!!!

Friday, 3rd December

We are all learning or we get passed by and no longer become relevant it is said.

That is why its so important to keep on learning and re-tuning our bodies and minds.

For example, how many of us on here have found we have either forgotten how to eat properly or never knew in the first place how to eat properly. The need to school ourselves in the fundamentals of proper nutrition have never been more important.

It’s funny how people are willing always to go on courses to improve their work situation, or enhance the way they do their job. Yet when it comes to taking some advice on how to eat properly, there is often nodding of heads but there seems to be a complete lack of action. People will often worry too late about their health, instead of taking preventative action in their early years. I’m going to change that actually, its never really too late so i stand corrected there and i have encountered many, many so called lost causes with deep problems in health terms, but they can and have been fixed in the past!!

If someone tells you that all day every day they eat porridge and chicken salads, and then they end up 2 stone overweight, they may be a little economical with the truth! We all bend the truth slightly from time to time to suit ourselves but owning up to going wrong is the best thing you will ever do. Its at that exact point that you move forward in the right direction and that means you’re ten times closer to your original goal. The old saying that an inch in the right direction is better than a mile in wrong direction has never been more right! Let’s focus on hitting the right trail and forgetting about past mistakes, its time to be flexible and forget about being stubborn because of your ego!

So instead of bragging up all those one day courses on how to become a better worker, let’s start re-schooling yourself on food and training properly. Don’t over-complicate things and lets try and get the fundamentals right from yesterday’s post. I have really tried to simplify it all and im not expecting you to be perfect, but i am certainly expecting you to give it a good go, thats for sure!!!

There are many things i, and many others have realised are perhaps the wrong way to do things over the years. The best response to that is to accumulate all that information and make it so valuable so that we never make the same mistake again. I am proud to say i am a life-long learner because i know i won’t develop if i don’t, and i simly get left behind.

Commit to learning and realise there is a right and wrond way to doing things, and its never too late to change. From eating right to doing exercises the right way, its never too late to make the kind of progress you always imagined!!

Day 21

End of the 3rd week, and this should be a time to reflect on how well you are doing, how your life is being improved in all areas and what you have in front of you.

What my job usually is on this type of thing is the “why”. You all should pretty much know”how” to do this type of thing, the home workouts, the outside stuff such as cycling, running, walking, swimming etc, its all pretty much out there now and you should be able to make some kind of effort every time.

The “why” though is different. Chris L for example, before he lost his 15 pounds already, felt like throwing in the towel at least once. I know others have felt the same too. The feeling that you want to “chuck it all in” is often overwhelming when times get a bit tougher, and its when you resist to this feeling that you are really winning! Overcoming challenges makes you feel amazing after all.

Remember when i said before that most people’s new year’s resolutions are often all over by valentine’s day, this is very true and in reality, most people’s new year’s resolutions are all over right now. They have caved in at the first sign of pressure or hardship. Their motivation has gone but i tell everyone that motivation doesn’t last forever, but structures do.

None of us every day wake up feeling hugely motivated EVERY single day, life sometimes doesn’t allow that to happen. However, if we have a good structure in place, eat a good breakfast, lunch and evening meal, and snack healthily, drink enough water, sleep well etc, we are likely to be very successful indeed!

If you read some of the posts by the users, there’s never huge problems with the workouts usually, its your state of mind that always plays tricks with you. It’s always the WHY! Some of you will look for excuses to quick and to feel sorry for yourselves, i’m not buying them so i wouldn’t even try if i were you!

Some of you now are falling down one day, but the ultra-important thing is YOU ARE PICKING YOURSELF RIGHT BACK UP!!!! Now that is the exciting thing for me and it should be for you too! You are winning and are learning “why” you fell down in the first place. THAT IS MAJOR PROGRESS and the true secret to ultimate success, now you have it let’s pick yourself up EVERY SINGLE TIME!

You will get knocked down at times, that’s life remember, but i want you getting your behind’s off the floor EVERY TIME. You either want to be successful or not, and this challenge is no time to be a baby or lie on the settee on a sunday, let’s get out there and show the fight that’s really in each and every one of you!
