March 3rd 2011

March 3rd and its been a great week so far. We have had sunshine all week, meaning the possibility of a lot of outside sessions. The feeling of being outside is the best thing at all, the feeling of being more energetic leads to far more positivity in your life overall. Seeing the coastline on a sunny day lifts your whole spirit and gives fresh optimism even on days full of middle east tensions and economic uncertainty at home. You won’t get that same level of optimism on cloudy, drizzly dark days, some may but in the main most people do not.

A week like this full of crisp, sunny days can be the springboard into spring if you pardon the pun. If there was ever a motivating lift off for you all, this is the week just as the daffodils are coming out.

There’s no such thing as having failed before to get into shape, “you cannot do it” are the words of an irrational negative person, we need to come away from there. You are never too old, too overweight, too young, too insecure, too far away, there is NEVER AN ACCEPTABLE EXCUSE NOT to get into this thing and achieve heck of a a lot with your body, which in turn leads to a stronger and healthier mind, which prevents you slipping back into the situation you may be in right now!!!

You have accept that you’re not a robot, you’re never going to be perfect, you may never be an Olympic athlete but YOU CAN become the best version of you and you can do that by this summer for sure.

Don’t rely on someone or some organisation doing it for you either, because they can’t. You are perfectly capable of achieving all that you want to achieve and a whole lot more!!! In fact, you will gain so much more self-confidence if you DO IT YOURSELF, listen again, YOU CAN DO IT YOURSELF as long as you are given the right directions, the right food options and the right workouts

Lets get out there and do it and take advantage of the sun and make a massive difference to your body and mind all the way throughout march!!!

March 1st-start of the year for many!!

March 1st is a big boost to all of us, January and February are traditionally the darkest months and when our motivation is lowest. It is usually quite high in early January after the new year resolutions, but by February, everything slips back into the status quo and a gloom seems to set over everyone.

March 1st signifies new possibility with spring coming and everything seeming fresher.

So now that perhaps unrealistic expectations made on January 1st are seemingly over, its time to get some real plans together and stop kidding yourself you can eat all those weight watchers biscuits and still stay lean, you really can’t.

The sooner you realise that most diet organisations have got their own greedy agendas for selling you their products and versions of food, then the quicker you progress, start eating good proper food and actually start saving some cash on all those empty promises.

From the weight watchers biscuits and ready meals, to the slimmers world green and red days, to the lighter life £75 a week you will need to spend buying all their shakes and snacks. Of course you’re going to lose some weight, sometimes a lot, but as the media has shown this week, most if not all of those examples they use have put all the weight on and usually 5% more on your body that you never had even in the first place.

Here’s a challenge for you this week, visit the supermarket and try to only go down the aisles that will help you out big time physically and in terms of health.

Go down the fruit and vegetables section, in fact spend most time here, and start learning how to cook again using good fresh ingredients and GET USED TO IT, its not a fad, ITS GOING TO WORK FULL STOP.

Also get some lean meats in there, chicken, turkey, lean beef and get some fish in too, mackerel, tuna, salmon etc, lets make this a staple of your diet.

Make sure there’s some good carbs in there too, wholegrain and wholewheat pasta, brown rice, jacket, new and sweet potatoes, porridge etc, if the quality is good, then you’re going to look and feel good so lets give it your best!!!

February 23rd

The issue with calories intake associated with diet and weight loss/weight gain has been around for a long time.

There have been 2000, 3000 and all the way down to 800 calorie a day diets.

Most people think, especially when they are in the mood to diet, that less is always best.

They are right partly but only to a degree. A calorie is not always a calorie.

Look at the difference between an apple which is approximately 50 calories and a doughnut which is a good couple of hundred calories.

If you used the logic of a calorie is a calorie, then you could class an apple the same as a quarter of an apple? A lot of people would consider this a fair trade off and take the doughnut every single time.

So what should you do?

If you take the doughnut every time, you will get the following.

An increased sugar rush, followed by a sugar low, leading to a craving for you guessed it, yet more sugar!!!!

If done regularly, you will heighten your chances of becoming diabetic, which can lead to a change in your life that you definitely wont enjoy!!

Your skin wont have a glow, in fact increased refined sugar like this is likely to lead to skin problems such as acne, rashes, redness and speeds up the ageing process.

Like we said at the start, there is absolutely no way you will be able to stop at one doughnut, especially a quarter of a doughnut!!! Once you have a craving for sugar, its very difficult to stop and will lead to a diet rich in sugary and fatty snacks, studies have shown this time after time.

If you consumer the apple every day and focus on natural, nutrient giving foods, you are likely to stabilise your blood sugar levels, which means more regular and constant energy levels.

You are likely to fend off serious disease, as most fruit and vegetables contain cancer fighter anti-oxidants, as well as a host of other vitamins and minerals vital for good health.

Any time your diet is healthy, your skin in healthy and you WILL have a glow about you, try it and see if im right.

Once you get used to good healthy food, you wont want to go back to the sugary foods, not only for their downside but because you simply wont feel good when you eat them.

Time to change your life!

February 22nd

So you have got a huge Monday in, the type of workout that makes you a little tight the next day, or even very stiff for some people.

Let me get this thing straight first of all. A couple of so called “trainers” in a magazine I saw once said that if you weren’t very stiff the next day from a workout, then that workout wasn’t done properly.

What an absolute joke that comments was and still is!! These people in fact are a joke and ought to get some experience under their belt before they utter such rubbish. They may have passed a couple of piddly exams done on a weekend but you can tell they don’t have much “experience” in the field so to speak!!!

Of course you will get stiff after the occasional workout, when you’ve pushed it harder than you’ve done for a while, or done a new exercise or an old routine you haven’t for a while, that DOES happen occasionally but the stiff after every workout part is absolute rubbish and shows the amount of “cowboys” in this game!!

Your body DOES get used to a certain intensity, and can handle surprisingly impressive workloads. Many of you who have been or are in now an intensive period of training will have become used to levels you never thought possible.

The great thing about the human body is that once you get used to one level, it craves going a bit further again and testing itself out. There is no inner satisfaction like the knowing that you are advancing your physical performance every week, month and year of year life, just as people on average your own age, are sadly declining in theirs according to latest government statistics.

The body ages for sure, but if you exercise correctly and with real purpose, eat small and often foods that are packed with nutrients, drinking enough water throughout the day, sleep well, and stay positive in most situations life throw at you, then you are likely to defy that damaging ageing process and halt the most serious damaging effects that attack your body and its internal system every day.

The great news is that if you look after your insides, your outsides will take care of themselves so lets keep giving it your best shot!!!

February 17th

February 17th is a perfect day for you to set new records in your training, and to attempt things you thought you were too old for.

I could tell you of a few 70 something’s who have set new records in the last couple of weeks, and are mighty proud of their new personal bests. From running, to cycling, to mountain walking, the sky is literally the limit for some!!!

Things you normally associate with being 70 something are not necessarily true.

For example, if you are suffering from weak bones and joints, then it doesn’t have to be that way. Strength training working against resistance such as press ups done properly, and done to your own personal level, will help tremendously your shoulder joints, your collarbones and your whole upper body structure in general.

The same press ups will help your muscle tone if you’re in your 70’s. Nothing worse than having loose skin but that can definitely change, if you’re willing to undertake some strength work with weights, and change your body all over again.

You CAN re-shape your body and look a lot better for the summer, even if you’re in the autumn of your lives.

What about balance? Most people in the 70’s walk sometimes as if balance may be a problem. Working with balance exercises can make a huge difference to you, and working on proper imbalanced surfaces can work very well to improve your balance. For example, those big round inflated balls you see around the place are called fit balls or swiss balls, and simply sitting on them watching a 30 minute TV programme can help dramatically with your core (your stomach, your lower back, your hamstrings, and thighs) and create a new and much more powerful sense of balance for you.

Simply being active every day will make you feel a whole lot better and stronger.

There is absolutely no reason why you cannot improve, as there are many 80 year olds still doing marathons around the world if you take notice of everyday stories.

These tales should contrast greatly with 40 somethings feeling sorry for themselves feeling they are “too old”. The time is NOW to make a difference to yourself and get closer to the person and physique you really want to be with an abundance of energy.

Please go into the training section or the diet section or both hopefully, and pick out the tried and tested methods to be in and get into shape!!!!
