Your option to decide

So here we are at the start of yet another week, and believe it or not, im still excited about what i do!

I look forward to going to work, in fact i don’t call it  “work” anymore and have a problem calling it that.

I enjoy what i do and how many people can say that? I used to have jobs where i totally DID NOT like what i did, i found it unfulfilling, unrewarding, not mentally stimulating, all the negative adjectives you want to use, go for it and they could be possibly the right descriptions!

Then i changed it all round and to cut a long story short, i am here right now trying to inspire you to do something really important, valuable, hugely rewarding, fulfilling, enjoyable, fantastic for your health. There can be no denying that this statement is true so hopefully more than a few of you are going to take the offer up and change your lives very much for the better.

If you say you’re too old, my oldest client is 84 and started training at 75 years of age, so no excuses there please.

If you think you have gone “too far” the other way and your belly is too much to reduce, then i have had many, many clients lose over 10 inches off their waists, so that excuse will not wash with me either!

If you say “im going to try and do a bit on my own first” or “i can do it myself”, then fantastic, please do!!! However, if you’ve been making these statements year in year out since you left school, college, work, whatever, then obviously YOU ARE NOT GETTING IT DONE all by yourself, and you’re not moving around quite enough are you?!!

What you should be certain about today though is that you have the same OPTION TO DECIDE your fate this week just like everyone else reading this today, the 6th of september 2010. Either you make the same old excuses that you know are absolute rubbish or you decide to devote the rest of the year to discovering that you can actually get into shape again!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whether its the first time since school, the first time since you gave birth, the first time since you lost your job, the first time since you got divorced, the first time since you got married, the first time since you bought a house, the first time since you suffered rejection in your life and you havent been able to recover etc etc! Whatever the situation, you have this option right now to decide to change your life today and forever.

All of us have this choice and people do it every day, or they put up with mediocrity.

Are you are “do’er” or just a “talker”?!

Commit “to do” and you will be shocked how much everything in your life improves.

Fruit doesn’t make you put on weight

A common myth used to be that you shouldn’t eat fruit because “it put weight on”.

Too much of anything will put on weight of course, but in reality, fruit is the least of your problems.

Of course fruit is regarded as a simple sugar, and people always think that all simple sugars cause rapid rises in blood sugar. This usually means weight gain and problems possibly with diabetes in the future if you keep consuming simple blood sugars.

We now have a scale though that shows the impact of sugar of all foods.

In the scale called the glycemic index, the funny think is that white rice and white potatoes come out a lot more sugary, and raise sugar far quicker than fruit!! Not saying that rice and potatoes are desperately bad foods for you, they’re not! It’s just important to consume them in smaller portions, and use brown rice if possible, sweet potatoes or new potatoes instead of white potatoes, you need to make the switch here for all sorts of good reasons.

This is why on here we always talk about balance and combining protein, good carbs and good fats, along with some vegetables and the problem of rapid blood sugar rises will not arise for you full stop!

Fibre and fats help slow digestion, improve absorbtion of vital nutrients, an even when you’re trying to lose body fat, the nutrients in fruit are vital in helping you do so!!!

So unless you eat around 5 bananas a day, a huge bunch of grapes, 10 pears, a box of cherries and a box of strawberries (not only will you start putting weight on but you will start to visit the toilet an awful lot), you will NOT put on weight with a moderate 5 a day on your fruit, it simply cannot happen. Time to stop blaming the fruit and analyse the chocolate bars/biscuits that may still be in your diet!

Moderation in food and a wide a variety of nutrients as possible are golden rules, you know this is common sense and you should not be scared of any natural food out there.

Big end to the week-let’s make it happen!!!

For some of you, the end of the week is the chance to get one more workout in before the weekend. You may then take the weekend off, or just do a low key workout and be glad to enjoy the time off.

For others though, and there are plenty of you, the weekend really is the time when you get your BEST workouts in.

I know some of you go on very long and demanding walks, enjoying the countryside and scenery which can be breathtaking.

Some of you enjoy long bike rides, and the weekend represents the only time when you have such an opportunity.

Whatever your way of staying in shape, i applaud your efforts and your courage to do so. We go on all the time about people who talk a good game, or are simply reluctant to take the plunge to get fit and healthy, so make sure you know you are one of the few who take their health and fitness seriously. You should know that if you are regular reader of this site.

This is also a time of year when events are popular too. From certain bike rides like the gower bike ride which has been and gone, the mumbles childline triathlon which we organise every year at the end of april, to the swansea 10k run at the end of september, these are all events anyone can take part in, and all of which are more enjoyable if you’ve put in a bit of preparation for. We have plenty of ideas on here for those sort of events, and how to measure your progress and combine your training.

I realised the other day also that we’ve already posted hundreds of times on here, so that means we are developing a library of information on here for you to use to reach new heights, to figure out what’s going wrong and what’s going right with your programme. If you’re struggling for motivation, then there’s absolutely tons of ways on here to get fired up about your training, your eating and ways on how to get your desire to improve to amazingly highly levels.

There’s also the 12 week challenge we had earlier this year. If you click on this on the right hand side of page, you can go back from day 84 all the way back to day 1, which charts a lot of history on how your mental state can be challenged over 12 weeks, and strategies that need to be used to counter the obstacles and challenges that always come along when you’re talking about a period as long as 12 weeks.

Some people stuck it out, some didn’t and hopefully we all did actually learn a bit about ourselves throughout that time.

The good news is that we will repeat that process in january 2011, and you’re all welcome to get in your best shape all over again!

Have a great weekend!

More energy to moan than just do it!

Most of us spend more time and energy protesting about doing exercise than actually doing it.

Most of us work up a sweat in finding ways not to eat foods that are going to seriously help our health.

If there was ever one great thing Nike gave to use, it was their marketing team’s slogan “just do it”!!!

For example, i saw two different kids similar in ages this morning. One was a pleasure to work with, looking for hard work and wanted to do his best with his workouts and eating, and may be on the verge of becoming a professional sportman, make that a near certainty.

The other one had maybe as much talent, but was a couple of years younger, but the attitudes couldn’t be more different. Everything was questioned, everything was moaned at, and everything was done with the wrong kind of attitude. This is when attitude is everything when it comes to getting results. This boy will learn the hard way, but in one month’s time, he will know the value of hard work and hopefully develop more respect for others and himself.

This is what we talk about on here. Isn’t the process of thinking up your next excuse an effort in itself, but does it really deep down make you feel any better. Surely the feeling of self-satisfaction you get from sticking to a programme for at least months, giving it everything you’ve got, is going to be so much better than dodging the searching questions you’ve asked yourself about your health.

GETTING REAL and being honest is vital.

If you’re in your 30’s, 40’s or 50’s, are you really saying that you can never be like you were when you were 25?!!! I certainly don’t believe that one bit because i have many examples of people achieving amazing fitness well into their 50’s and 60’s, and people doing well in their 70’s and 80’s too, and guess what? NONE OF THEM MOAN ABOUT LIFE’S LITTLE OBSTACLES!!

Once you decide NOT to moan about all the little things in life, THINGS WILL IMPROVE RAPIDLY for you. If you don’t believe me, PLEASE TRY IT, I MEAN PLEASE TRY it and take a chance in your life again.

Simply being more active is a huge start for you, simply shopping for food that is actually going to do you good is going to be an awesome start for you. BELIEVING IN YOURSELF IS GOING TO BE A MASSIVE, HUGE, FANTASTIC TURNING POINT IN YOUR LIFE AND IT CAN START RIGHT NOW!!!

It all starts here and now, no more moaning, let’s do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Day 21

End of the 3rd week, and this should be a time to reflect on how well you are doing, how your life is being improved in all areas and what you have in front of you.

What my job usually is on this type of thing is the “why”. You all should pretty much know”how” to do this type of thing, the home workouts, the outside stuff such as cycling, running, walking, swimming etc, its all pretty much out there now and you should be able to make some kind of effort every time.

The “why” though is different. Chris L for example, before he lost his 15 pounds already, felt like throwing in the towel at least once. I know others have felt the same too. The feeling that you want to “chuck it all in” is often overwhelming when times get a bit tougher, and its when you resist to this feeling that you are really winning! Overcoming challenges makes you feel amazing after all.

Remember when i said before that most people’s new year’s resolutions are often all over by valentine’s day, this is very true and in reality, most people’s new year’s resolutions are all over right now. They have caved in at the first sign of pressure or hardship. Their motivation has gone but i tell everyone that motivation doesn’t last forever, but structures do.

None of us every day wake up feeling hugely motivated EVERY single day, life sometimes doesn’t allow that to happen. However, if we have a good structure in place, eat a good breakfast, lunch and evening meal, and snack healthily, drink enough water, sleep well etc, we are likely to be very successful indeed!

If you read some of the posts by the users, there’s never huge problems with the workouts usually, its your state of mind that always plays tricks with you. It’s always the WHY! Some of you will look for excuses to quick and to feel sorry for yourselves, i’m not buying them so i wouldn’t even try if i were you!

Some of you now are falling down one day, but the ultra-important thing is YOU ARE PICKING YOURSELF RIGHT BACK UP!!!! Now that is the exciting thing for me and it should be for you too! You are winning and are learning “why” you fell down in the first place. THAT IS MAJOR PROGRESS and the true secret to ultimate success, now you have it let’s pick yourself up EVERY SINGLE TIME!

You will get knocked down at times, that’s life remember, but i want you getting your behind’s off the floor EVERY TIME. You either want to be successful or not, and this challenge is no time to be a baby or lie on the settee on a sunday, let’s get out there and show the fight that’s really in each and every one of you!
