May 5th-Habits
Monday to friday habits make or break your week, and these are relatively easy ones to do.
- Go for a daily walk in nature. The greenery around you will automatically make you feel better, the fresh air will energise you and the also make you think a lot clearer.
- Eat breakfast. People sometimes think that they are “saving calories” by skipping breakfast, the reality is you are slowing your digestive system down and your body needs a good start to the day. You may lose weight to start with by skipping meals, but once you can’t do it anymore, you will tend to splurge and put the weight back on and usually a lot more. Time and time it happens no matter what the faddy people say.
- Have a nap. Most adults I know have a hard time lunch time or mid afternoon, even a 20 mins nap, will re-invigorate, re-charge your energy and get you attacking the second part of your day with vigour, much more enthusiasm and energy.
- Workout at an intensity that challenges you, and not by the clock. If you only have 20 mins, go hard in that time, saying you have worked hard for two hours a time at the gym is impossible, you can’t rain long and hard.
- Get up early. The morning is usually your quietist time of day, you can get twice the amount of stuff done early than later in the day when everyone is up and tries to steal your time. It maybe a pain to start with, but over time will become one of your smartest and productive strategies.

We all remember people who have departed the world and wished we had more time with them. Some leave early, some leave very late, but we all want to have a good time when we are here.
Prince used to say you should party “like it’s 1999” and that’s a saying we have all practiced and full embraced at many times of our lives. Some of the fittest people I have trained are often the biggest partygoers because their energy knows no bounds.
Their workouts and the energy they gain from those workouts will power them through any day/night out that comes their way.
The problem is once your health goes into decline, you are in no real condition to party like that anymore because you don’t have the energy, mobility and even if you have the will, you don’t have the stamina anymore.
I love the saying “one life you have, go for it”, BUT you have to already have the health and fitness to full embrace that. Put your workouts in, eat well 80% of the time, get your rest, do your amazing parties if that what excites you at whatever age you are.
I have been on holidays with people who are really fit and they usually can do endless things on holidays, nothing is off limits because all that travelling, sightseeing and PARTYING is no problem.
Then I have been on holiday with those who have struggled with their fitness and health, and it’s a different holiday completely, and you have to adjust energy levels, distance covered accordingly out of respect.
I grew up in the 80’s when you were considered a hero if you hit the pub every night and ate pie and chips every day, and came home smelling of smoke. Sounded amazing at the time, but the diabetes, lung disease and blood pressure/heart disease wasn’t quite as much fun.
One life live it, you can have it all and still be “fun” if you have balance.

Stress can be a killer or at least damaging for our health.
MANY of you use the gym as a dumping ground for stress, the place where you can shake off your troubles and those things playing on your mind constantly.
Your workout can give you great clarity in between sets, and change the chemical balance in your body and just as importantly, your brain too.
The other alternative is carrying the stress around with you, on the settee, when you are sleeping but still awake at 3am, when you’re scrolling through your computer looking for magical solutions but there aren’t any often you will get out of a computer or phone.
You will FIND lots of “enabler’s” on social media too, in the disguise of “support”. Many people pretend to be your “friends” on social media but they are often the same ones saying “did you see that one on social media last night”, or accusations you are “crying for attention”.
We all have to face the facts that at times we DO need help and support but from the RIGHT people, and a public audience is not always the best place to get that much needed help, we often set ourselves up for more heartbreak.
We also as adults have to begin to have FAITH IN OURSELVES again. Whatever your faith is, I’m sure the point of being on this earth is to continue to do something MEANINGFUL with our lives and never quit even when the going gets hard, we may continue to fail at times, but still being in the game makes us a winner every time.
That stress in you needs to come out every day before it turns into something far more toxic, the iron at the gym is waiting for you to release big stress in abundance right now so don’t look for help where it never comes, YOU have to take action, make yourself accountable again and get a firm hold on you stress before it overwhelms you and you feel helpless to its power again,
