To develop your full potential, you need to start thinking bigger and open your mind to endless possibilities if you eliminate some of the obstacles holding you back.

This is when you discover the “magic” of thinking big.

There are two types of people, those who do something about it and try to enhance their health.

Then there are those who don’t actively do anything about their health and have a condition called “excuse-itis” and have the following reasons why they can’t exercise (i am too old, too young, too overweight, too underweight, it’s too hot, it’s too cold, exercise is not for me, i have a bad back, i have a bad knee, i have a bad shoulder, exercise never changes anything etc etc) .

We have endless examples of individuals who defy the odds and beat the medical conditions they have to inspire others. I find many of the most afflicted and would definitely have MANY reasons to complain, ARE the ones who complain the least.

One person who trains with us has heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, a terrible knee and hip, a weak ankle and a stiff shoulder, and every day is often a struggle to get up. Yet once she gets going, she somehow comes to life and adds greatly to the encouraging atmosphere at the gym and has progressed dramatically having a hugely positive impact on all of those afflictions.

Diabetes is a massive problem for the UK and there’s no doubt you know many people with it. There are those who actively do something about it, and those who wait for it to get worse.

Exercise will only help diabetes and getting fitter will automatically lead to you getting healthier and feeling better full stop. Don’t take my word for it, we have two of the most senior diabetes nurses in the county who will tell you the same who train with us most days.

All exercise should be supervised and each condition should be considered before any programme starts, this is why treating everyone as an individual is so vital to us and it should be for you too.

With all the science of training and healthy advice better than any time in history, there has never been a better time to think big and make a massive positive difference to your health!

“The pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity.
The optimist sees opportunity in every difficulty.”-Winston Churchill.

How you think and approach your fitness journey mentally will dictate how well you do.

I have seen many individuals come into the gym with pre-set ideas and sometimes want to train how they want to. “I don’t want to do weights. it makes me bulky and big”-When i tell them that this is false and you must do weight training to change your body’s shape, increase your metabolism, increase your bone density and burn fat quicker, they need to listen, be open-minded and realise what they need to do.

If they decide it’s not for them and don’t want to listen to us, then i explain we only run our own programmes because we strongly believe this will be their best opportunity to reach their goals quicker and safer. If they still resist, we explain our gym is not the best place for them, and i can see that they are not really ready to change, and will continually keep making excuses until get mentally ready to change and be open to positive advice that will actually work.

We don’t allow anyone to mindlessly go on the treadmill because thats what they used to do in other gyms, and not try and help them to see there is far more to exercising than doing a “bit of this and a bit of that” with no plan.

Despite our many success stories with individuals after back surgery, we still get people telling us they think they can’t exercise even if they just have a bad back. So they go back to choosing a lifestyle that involves not moving a lot, which puts on weight and makes their back situation worse.

Limiting your beliefs will stop you reaching your full potential, and you need to actively change that if you are to be successful with your health and fitness.

Having so many role models, positive and encouraging people at our gym counts for a lot. Having someone working out next to you willing to help you, give you a pick me up just when you need it, telling you to stick with it is worth a lot to us.

We strongly encourage people to see the opportunity in everything they do, especially when the going gets tough, those toughest exercises are usually the ones that will help you the most.

Your body changes for good the moment you become more positive, be open to new ideas and the moment you discover a positive environment will give you the powerful, non-stop momentum that you’ve never had before.

Every day is a fresh opportunity for you to change for the better.

All of us change, slowly in most cases, into the person we end up being. Our business changes, people around us change and what we expect changes.

Are you fitter than one year, have you really learnt more, are you more positive than one year ago, do you help more people now because of your experiences, and have you more optimism for the future?

Are you on a hopeful, optimistic path and open to change and possibility?

Have you finally starting believing that you need a sensible, regular exercise programme, and a long term healthy eating programme, and have you finally kicked quick fixes into touch finally realising that they are a waste of time, money and they destroy you emotionally too?

We as a gym always want to AVOID being a business that plays the short game, the one who takes short cuts, the one that sells you pills and powders that mess up your body and mind, we will always be the one that never makes false promises about losing huge amounts of weight recklessly and in short periods of time. Most of you now have hopefully figured those type of weight-loss scam artists out by now.

As a gym, we always think long term, what’s the very best thing you can do, whilst still thinking what’s best for your back, knees etc. What is really the best strategy for you to achieve whatever you want deep down, this is always what’s vital to us.

When you look back at your life, you will realise we all have choices to leave a great legacy, what we became, how much we cared about people, and what difference we made to others.

In an age of getting your “15 minutes of fame” is really important to some, it’s vital to realise that you must play the long game to make sure you have a positive impact on everyone around you, to be in the best health possible.

We are always “becoming”, and we must always realise that everyday we have the opportunity to become something else, someone that gives value to others and most importantly give ourselves that deep down satisfying feeling we are doing our best and really creating change for the better.

None of us will get fit at exactly the same rate, some will go slower, some faster depending on how much work they put into it, but EVERYONE is capable of getting fitter and healthier than they have ever done before.

If you show up and exercise a minimum of three times a week, then good things will happen for you, because you are exposing your body to the right amount of stimulus to improve.

If you aim long term to eat well 80% of the time, still enjoying occasional treats which is realistic, then your body will look after you and high energy levels will return to your life.

The main reason i find that individuals improve quicker than others is consistency of doing the right things. I find that it often doesn’t matter how physically gifted some people are, it’s the person that’s willing to work the hardest over a long period of time will always be the highest achiever.

The biggest enhancer of progress that can happen for you is realising that mindset is the secret link, your “x factor”, your most powerful weapon in all of this coming together.

Staying on course is often dictated by how focused you are and your willingness to do the simple things right time after time. After your initial “honeymoon” period of starting training, you will soon realise that staying on your programme brings some challenges, and the sooner you bring an achievable structure to your lifestyle the better.

Just like booking an appointment with the doctor or dentist, make time for your workouts three times a week. Find a time that nothing can get in the way of. Once you get used to training, you will be more productive in all areas of your life, for the time you invest in every training session will be rewarded many times over.

When you do your food shopping, make sure most of it is healthy, as everything you bring into your house will get eaten, bring multipack crisps or chocolate bars in and they WILL get eaten. Nothing wrong with treats here and there but the foundation of what you eat needs to be good. You can’t out-train a bad diet.

For your mind, reading positive books or media everyday helps a lot. The biggest thing of all is to surround yourself with positive people and influences. Avoid those who drag you down and put you off trying to better yourself. Trust opinions of those who are experienced and have a track record in what you are interested in-A much quicker way of seeking advice.

Stay consistent, stay positive and try your best to stay on the path you set yourself when you first dreamt up what you really want out of your health and fitness programme.

Understanding the real deep down reason why you exercise is MASSIVELY important to your long term success and continued habit of exercising.

Doing it just for a wedding, for a holiday, for the beginning of a sports season is usually a good way to crash on your programme when those events happen, and you say “then what”?

Getting to ask better questions of yourself os a great start.

So if you are getting ready for a wedding, it’s natural you want to look your best for your wedding, that’s totally understandable! What happens afterwards though? What happens if you don’t exercise, then isn’t it natural to assume you may put on weight, not feel so good, and your confidence and self-esteem levels seem likely to drop? What happens to your moods and those around you?

Isn’t it better to get fitter and STAY fitter? If you are feeling more full of energy, aren’t you able to contribute more to your marriage, the household, your family and relationship in general?

What about the beginning of a sports season? Isn’t it always the same with a sports team, you get loads out in the summer when the weather is nice and come october or november, training numbers for teams can often drop 90%?!!! If you had most of your team taking all year round training seriously, then it doesn’t take a genius to work out that your team would become way more successful?!!!

What happens when you work hard for a holiday? You usually drink and eat more on holiday, usually put a lot of weight back on anyway, and what happens to that euphoria when you come back? Does it turn into a big sulk realising that you wont be on holiday until next year?

Are you really going to be sulking for another 11 months? Isn’t there more in life to look forward to?!!!

Being healthier and fitter should be a 12 month part of your life. When you’re fitter and healthier, you tend to do better at everything. Your relationships are better, you tend to do better at work, you contribute more and tend to be a great example to your family and friends and this is all to do with increased energy, a greater sense of wellbeing and a sense you are improving and progressing in life, and not stuck in a rut that can and will bring you down.

Find your long term reason to exercise, grab it, keep it tight and it will be with you always as your reason to exercise, eat well and your reason to keep on progressing and achieving your ambitions in life.
