I am very proud to announce that our gym has been selected by Sport Wales to take part in a big media campaign film to inspire our nation to become more active. This is a huge honour we appreciate greatly.

They say our gym resonates with the average person, as well as our inspirational stories. A TV company has been commissioned and is coming down at the end of March, will be interviewing and filming our gym in action for the entire day.

This is a huge testimony to the hard work our members put in, and the huge obstacles many of them have overcome to create incredible stories of achievement and recovery, and says monumental things about the power of exercise.

Our gym has been going 60 years this year, a big thank you to my father Ted for leaving such a wonderful legacy, and the vision to open a gym way back in 1957, and to my mother for supporting me throughout.

Thanks to my wife Nicola for contributing so much and putting up with our endless 4am starts, thanks to Dan Smith in his work as a great trainer and developing so well, also his work in helping us expand the gym now and developing us into 10,000 square feet of training space.

Finally, a massive thank you to our community of Burry Port and surrounding area for supporting us all these years.

Keri.

The mornings and evenings are vital periods when we need to get going, sometimes when we don’t even feel like it, but we will definitely feel much better afterwards.

I was fortunate as a young child to be around the gym environment between 4pm and 6pm, soon learning that this time most days was meant for exercising or at least doing something.

I haven’t spent too much time in the house tea time in my life, so it’s difficult to imagine what not doing much (physically) at that time is.

This is called a pattern in life really getting engrained in me. I did it so much, i did not know or do not know any different and it feels strange if i don’t do it.

Forget 21 days to form a habit, NINE months of continuous exercise is what studies show to be the stage where individuals are likely to make exercising a long term lifestyle choice they are likely to stick at.

Many of you have passed that stage and continue to make exercise a huge part of your life as you know the great associated benefits. Some of you have yet to get to this stage so you can see how vital it is, to make sure you develop exercise as a way of life, and a pattern of living that gets engrained in you too.

Many spend certain times of day watch TV, sitting around talking with their friends drinking coffee, some go for walks, some spend that time with reading, whatever you want to do is great but making a set time for exercise and sticking with it is absolutely vital to you becoming a long termer or just someone who comes and goes, never discovering the true value of being fit and active has on your life.

Time is something we all must make the most out of. We all have a certain amount of it, so there’s definitely no time to waste on things that don’t impact us positively.

These 3 weeks of the programme are measured out to give us the maximum out of ourselves. We put everything on the line for it, our health, our results, our wellbeing depends on those 3 weeks. We realise you don’t have any time to waste and those sessions has better be great!

If we get the most out of ourselves, our whole lives improves. Who can’t use more energy in their lives? It is vital for our very existence and so important for our performance, our moods, our happiness and our desire to do more each time.

Keep learning whatever your age, we all must if we want to get better, the days of finishing school and not learning anything else ended a long time ago, most if not all jobs require us to keep learning as we go if we want to excel in what we do.

If we don’t learn and develop a thirst for learning ,we will never get better,

You are in the box seat, you have a well worked out programme always on hand for you, keep demanding more out of us, it’s what drives us harder as coaches to help you in your desire to continually improve.

Don’t take your time for granted, use it wisely and use your week to make a massive positive impact on your health and wellbeing!!

Most often forget the value of showing up and improving. The facts are that if you just show up regularly, your body will respond by giving you a little bit more every time. Often after years of inactivity, your body yearns to get more active and feel better again.

Your body adapts to exercise very well, and naturally accommodates the new demands put on it. You may feel you are initially struggling, but that will soon pass if you start off sensibly.

If you are beginner or not that experienced in exercise, jumping into a programme that is already flat out or trying to copy others way above you in fitness levels is a massive mistake.

You need to be cautious, start off at your own pace and work at your own ability levels, and everyone is different.

Going too fast too soon can lead to feeling overwhelmed, feeling sick and the chances of getting injured go dramatically up. It’s inevitable that individuals will feel like quitting even before they achieve any momentum on their fitness journey.

Don’t always think of the the way you will look after exercise, just as important is the way you feel, the positive feelings that will come through your body and exercise will help make you think life in a completely different way.

This is why committing yourself to showing up three times a week will make all the difference. Don’t put pressure on yourself, join a programme that you can engage with mentally as well as physically, and allow your body to slowly accommodate the big positive changes that will eventually come into your life in all ways.

Tuesday, 31st January

Like you may have done, a long time ago i believed that some “Wonder” machine would be the answer to all our prayers to get into shape. “This would be it this time”, this machine would do “this and that”, this really new machine “was the business”!!

Machines i found out always left “gaps” in my fitness that could never be solved.

Machines i discovered were “ok” but never solved everything, and i still had multiple weaknesses, i had just become good on machines and nothing else.

Your body is the best machine you will EVER have, and you will have enormous benefits from it that never stop!

You can see that with our workouts, there is a huge amount of exercises where your body is relied upon. Multiple movements are tough with your body but ultimately will transform yourself.

We love free weights, we love bodyweight exercises, and we love extremely tough high intensity cardio, THIS is where it’s at.

To be honest, it would be easier to put you all on machines and give no supervision, but this would be disastrous for your progress and development.

I would rather throw everything at you in training terms, and leave no stone unturned, than settle for just the “easiest option”.

All pro athletes do huge amounts of workouts this way and we want the best for you, even if it’s tough to implement and get through, but you will be the long term winner from all of it!!
