The worrying news is that the faddy diets never stop coming.

Apart from the herbalife disaster, lighter life horror stories, the Cambridge diet example of perpetual yo-yo dieting, and you add a ton of other so called “diets” to these in the “hall of fame ruin your health and mind faddy diets list”, there comes a new one over the horizon.

Have you heard about the eat for 5 days, fast for 2 days diet?

Well, you may have because its been gaining some traction lately!

They claim to lower cholesterol, help with diabetes and generally help you lose weight-quickly! Interesting that nobody in the medical community is willing to back it, in fact they have come forward to publicly dispel its claims, and urge the public not to do it!

The downsides include a big hit to general health and immune system, some women have found themselves becoming infertile under medical tests, and all sorts of fainting and general not so pleasant side-effects.

Fasting has been around for many, many years and some people claim it works wonders but only now and again is it supposed to be practiced.

I have never tried it but I know there can be dangers with anything extreme, especially as not eating for 24 hours, but this new one says you shouldn’t eat for 48 hours, just drink liquids!

A lot of the medical community is up in arms and rightly so. The horror stories are likely to continue if you are doing without food for 48 hours. Of course you will lose weight by not eating, it doesn’t take a genius to work that one out, but the cost physically and emotionally cannot be worth any temporary short term weight loss!

15 weeks to Christmas today, and it’s a perfect opportunity to save your money, go and shop for good wholesome nutritious food that will do your body good, you will end up feeling a whole lot better, and in the process you will most likely drop a significant amount of body fat, especially when combined with a sensible exercise programme over those 15 weeks!

Tuesday, 20th August

The biggest surprise that individuals have when they come home from holidays is their first measurement immediately after returning home.

Depending on what type of holiday they have had, the measurements across the range can vary wildly!

Someone who has drunk alcohol every night on their trip and eaten heavily will be the worst offenders and their first measurement usually shocks them!

Blood pressure is usually way up!

Their resting heart rate is usually way up!

They usually put 2-3 inches on their waist and hips.

They usually add 2-4% body fat which is a significant number!

Their energy levels have vanished and show no signs of returning.

Their motivation is at an all-time low.

Their start back to exercising again is usually delayed by a series of minor excuses.

So you can a two week holiday of this kind of indulgence can have a serious effect on one’s ability to get back to where you were before the holiday!

It’s up to you what kind of holiday you want but beware the consequences of constantly overdoing it EVERY night on holiday. The best advice is to get straight away into it, take your time the first week back especially, and within 2-3 weeks, you will soon be feeling yourself once again!!

This shows the benefits of measurements too! If you weren’t constantly checked, you wouldn’t know the damage caused internally, as well as how you look in the mirror of course compared to when you went away!

Wednesday, 14th August

We talk all the time about the importance of trying to keep improving your physical performances, how about improving your eating habits?!!

When someone starts off with me for the first time, I like to guide them into things gently or you are likely to ask far too much off individuals in a short period of time.

An easy start for me to give someone is to make just one minor improvement per week.

The usual one I ask for is to try and eat breakfast every day. Believe it or not, most people I bump into tend not to eat breakfast at all, or eat something full of sugar or saturated fat, or most likely both!

So to get to eat the individual to eat well every day all day is quite unrealistic.

Making small changes each and every week will lead to a monumental change over just
six weeks!

Then I move onto the subject of properly hydrating one’s self. If someone can just drink more water throughout the day, then I know that this change alone will make such a difference to the person concerned. They will feel better, look better, burn more body fat and perform better in their workouts full stop.

Then I move onto sleep. Making the effort to get to bed earlier, especially in the week is paramount in order to recover from exercise, and set yourself up for the next day again.

Next is lunch and evening meal. You need to put healthy protein sources in there for your meal, healthy slow-burning carbs and a healthy array of vegetables. These meals can be similar (unless you have a packed lunch when wholemeal bread/pittas are likely to be choice of the day).

Then the snacks come into observation and how you are powering yourself through the day in terms of energy. Natural snacks such as fruit, dried fruit, nuts etc will work for you far better than sugary/fatty snacks every time!

This is a very brief description of the small changes you need to undertake to look and feel your best, so up to you when you implement all of this to get results as soon as possible!

Monday, 5th August

Monday is the day when most people get really back into their eating, and by that I mean eating good healthy clean food every meal.

At the weekend, your food choices are likely to be haphazard with the word “treat” creeping into your conversation!

So it’s Monday today, the day you are truly 100% committed to eating healthily.

You will notice the difference in performance you have today when you eat well.

At the weekend when your food is not so good, you will usually feel far more lethargic and you will want to nap and sleep more in general. This is due to feeding your body foods and drink that don’t go through your body well, in other words you don’t and cannot digest inferior foods that are very low on nutrients.

Foods low on nutrients are not meant for people who want to exercise well, who want to stay healthy, who want to feel good and feel the benefits of being healthy. Those foods do not fit the bill AT ALL!

This is why today is ultra-important. You want to be on track today and be able to deliver for your body in the way it looks and you want to feel as energetic as possible surely?

This is not a time to gamble with your health, or settle for mediocre results.

This week and today is the start of another big week for you and you MUST eat well every meal today, and most of the week to get the best out of yourself! Drink enough water, get energized and the workouts will take care of themselves as you will be bouncing with lots of energy to get through your week!

Make it happen today!!!
