“One more day not doing anything won’t matter”. This is a typical conversation to have this time of year as you sit in your chair contemplating the new year ahead.

Except one more day pushes you further from where you want to be. You are either moving away from what you want, or pushing yourself closer to what you really desire.

You can’t stay still in life. It’s impossible.

For those of you who exercised and ate healthily quite a bit before Christmas, then it’s natural to want a blow out over Christmas and new year, and to re-sample the “old lifestyle” you used to have.

You promised yourself you would soon “get back into it” immediately in the new year after all.

You may be feeling stodgy and your energy levels will be on the floor, you are likely irritable and struggling to feel like doing anything. You may even say “i’ve lost my mojo”, “i will wait until I get so and so to train with me”, “i will wait until I eat properly again”, “i will wait to feel motivated” and many others things that are not likely to happen soon.

This is why you must realise that one day DOES matter. One day of exercise (however short) can be the catalyst to get your mind clear. One day of exercise can inspire you to eat better. One day could be the spark when it all changes for you and you finally get out of first gear.

The slumber you may be in right now can be changed in an instant. It can be changed the moment you put your trainers on. It can be changed the moment you ask your family/partner to support you this year in your efforts to be healthy, and to never let you stop again…ever.

One day absolutely matters. Win your day and start right now getting more active.

Change isn’t possible this year though unless you change yourself. There’s no good “hoping” for it because unless you take action and change your daily habits, then the rest of this year will look exactly the same as it does now for you.

“Miracle diets”, “14 day juice and powder diets” etc will leave your out of pocket as well as feeling no better physically, and once you start back eating properly, you will pile the weight back on and more.

You should know by now that “detox’s” are gimmicks, and all your body actually needs is proper natural foods and your body will heal itself, you will feel better if you give it some time.

Start drinking more water, introduce some fruit and veg into your diet, and stop buying the rubbish into your house in the first place.

Pounding yourself into the ground through some extreme exercise programme is not going to make you look like the model in it anytime soon. In fact, jumping into any advanced exercise progamme will likely leave you either injured or fed up you can’t keep up with it or most likely both.

Commit this year to doing things right. Seek coaching on how to exercise properly, on how to devise a plan that suits YOUR needs, and join an environment that is supportive and has your best interests at heart.

Don’t sign a gym contract EVER, it’s a gym’s way of getting a ton of money out of you without them giving you anything in return. Make them work hard for your money, get coached every session and expect it not to cost an arm and a leg.

Make this year the year you DID NOT fall for all the scams and gimmicks that are all around you this time of year, block all the “sponsored” ads because all they want is your money.

Use common sense, slowly get into your new healthy lifestyle, take action every day by taking a bad habit out and putting a good habit in. Once you get used to your new habit, bring another good habit into your life and so on.

Your body responds far better to gradual change and your results will be far more long lasting if you do things over time. Keep it simple, don’t put too much pressure on yourself, aim to get a little better every week and this year could really be the year you get it right with your health.
