Thursday, 7th May

it’s a shorter week, and I wish you a sincerely great bank holiday on a Friday for a change. VE Day is a very important part of our history, and a significant part in our and world history and something we should always cherish.

From your messages, photos and videos, lots of you are doing very well. Some of you came into lockdown feeling unwell for weeks, but after a slow start, many of you are thriving in difficult circumstances, and actually getting to very impressive levels of personal fitness. Please keep that momentum up and please keep sending me all of your great and inspiring messages.

There’s two ways to go in lockdown, either you give in and hope for the best and every day will look like the last, but suffer endless feelings of hopelessness, anxiety and even depression, or you control as much as you can and get a daly routine that matters.

Doing a workout most days is hard to start with, it doesn’t seem to be doing much until the stiffness starts going and you recover quicker, your body starts to feel firmer, fitter and stronger and you get to start to like the better results you start to get

I am very lucky to go to the gym 5 days a week at times its tough, things ache and hurt, but I grind it out doing different things that I am really loving it now, the grind became extremely enjoyable and my 9am sessions are now a highly rewarding and creative part of my day.

For instance, I do 200m concept 2 bike races with my oldest boy and my cycling Is really strong. BUT, he beat me for the first time today but I hung on for a 2-1 win throwing all my strength and endurance into it, he’s pushing me to be better and he’s developing all the time himself.

Sometimes, trying new things, like our videos, new runs, new bike rides can change things up physically and mentally. Just because we are in a lockdown situation, it doesn’t mean we need to imprison our imagination too!!!

Refuse to go backwards in these times, and appreciate your DAILY chances to create a better and more purposeful future for you and your family.

We need to do all we can to keep our minds in state of growth, and elevate our feelings of happiness and joy, and move out of this in a position of real hope, strength and know we are able to get stuck into the challenges to come with our resourcefulness deeper than ever before, and be ready to battle whatever comes our way.

Lockdowns bring indifference to life to many, feelings of giving up, a feeling that life can never be the same again, and promote long term feelings of negativity, and often make you regret the things you never took a chance on whilst you had the chance when things were normal.

When we feel indifferent and there’s not much hope, we can stop trying and quickly. Once we stop trying, our life can deteriorate very quickly, life never stays the same.

Normal life can normally be full of hope and freedom, often have excitement and we can do pretty much whatever we want within reason.

So in the midst of lockdown, if we feel indifferent, the temptation to give up and do less is at its very strongest. When we do less, our mood deflates further and things can look even more bleak and desperate.

Without much encouragement, we can go down quickly. At times when it’s darkest, not many will jump up and give you hope, give you confidence that you can drag yourself out of your deep rut.

You will find plenty of people right now who want to agree that the darkest predictions can come true. But you have to snap yourself out of it and see it is darkest before dawn, hope is on the way if you give yourself a chance first feel better through exercising and eating right.

Pessimists never changed the world and if we relied on them, nothing would ever get better or change would never happen.

The vaccine that eventually comes will spring from someone who is optimistically working so hard right now, and working on seemingly impossible odds and unreasonable deadlines.

Great moments in history always arrive though when often normal people put unreasonable and incredible demands on themselves to come up with something that can change the world.

You too can get out of a rut by re-discovering your hopes and aspirations, Forget your “other side” that you have listened to and given up on yourself due other peoples opinions.

We all have two sides, we have to battle and listen to the side that feeds our self-esteem, self-confidence and our self-belief that we can get back to living the life we really want again, without stress, anxiety and hopelessness that we left get the better of us.

Use getting on your trainers on and use them as the spark to not only change your body, but to spark your brain into a different way of thinking, and  suddenly bring possibility into your life instead of a feeling that you cant get out of this vicious circle of hopelessness, fear and paralysis.

Start taking action by getting your trainers on, and repeat daily, you will re-discover your energy, re-discover your fire and appetite for life, and come out of this lockdown with a fresh sense of purpose that great things are indeed possible once again.
