I walk the dogs every day. Some days i struggle to get out there again after one of the harder mornings in the gym, but once i get out there i enjoy it and feel better.

This week is holiday times so Nicola and the kids wanted to take the dogs out. First of all, i was grateful but a funny thing happened by wednesday.

My body didn’t feel the same, my energy levels were a little bit down, and something was definitely missing.

This is a great example of when you sometimes CUT DOWN on exercise and staying active, you will often feel worse for it despite what most people think.

Most people have more active periods in their lives, and some times when they aren’t so mobile, unfortunately health often suffers when we aren’t so active.

Here’s the danger, once you accept the fact that being less active is actually “easier” and you “deserve a rest”, then everything in life starts to feel less good and your energy wanes.

You can justify the rest part all you want on top of a day’s work, but last time i checked most people these days weren’t working 14 hours a day down the coal mine.

Due to automation, most people have jobs when they are seated, and any real physical intensity has been removed from most jobs by machines.

It’s vital we keep our daily activities up and not just for health reasons. That time when we walk the dogs, the time when we have alone is vital time so we can plan or reflect on our days and brings clarity of thought often when we most need it.

Being less active is another sign we are withdrawing and “getting out of the game”. Part of our brain shuts off too when this happens, so do everything to STAY in the game, not only great for your health but your mental health too.
