A “palooza” means an ancient name for an extraordinary event, we are lucky to have many such events on a daily basis at the gym. No need to dress up, no need to advertise it, our members just DO.

I want to make palooza a NORMAL word in our vocabulary, and there should be nothing “mysterious or elitist” about it, it should be what we NORMALLY do.

The extraordinary is all relevant to YOU though.

Your starting point is one thing, what matters though is how far you have come.

If walking for 5 minutes makes you out of breath on day one, then walking with weights up a hill is a major achievement in a month, then running up a hill within 3 months is a massive victory for you.

There’s a 100% chance if you keep showing up, then great things WILL happen-regularly.

Change though takes time to happen, there’s no easy way out, or short cut home as the song goes, you do need to accept that eating well brings health and wellbeing rewards, and living your life through the Justeat app most days brings weight gain, pain in your body and health problems to come.

You do need to find your way past excuses, past people trying to put you off, past people telling you aren’t good enough, too old, too overweight or you haven’t got the stick to pull it off. the way to do it is to get to the headquarters of encouragement, the Mecca of doing it the right way, and keeping yourself in an environment where doing extraordinary things becomes a daily event for you-even a “palooza”!!!

You start with a mission at the gym, you want to get healthier, you want to get stronger, faster, out of pain, improve your mental health- a multitude of reasons,

Then life tries to get in the way, things crop up, and obstacles threaten to seriously de-rail your ambitions, the “mission” often gets forgotten about.

MAKE THE MISSION BIGGER THAN YOURSELF.

If you make it a great mission and you see it through no matter what, you WILL be a leader.

A leader for your family, a leader to loved ones, to your work colleagues, to the business you own maybe, to the people you lead in work, to anyone around you-BECAUSE you will have made time, you will have shown discipline and determination, you would have been strong when it would have much easier to be weak, and in my book that brings a ton of respect!!

Make the mission more than about you, and lift so many others up too along the way-emotionally and physically-BE the leader.

The best performers don’t often wake up full of energy and enthusiasm on a monday either, but they have done it enough times to trust the process to make them FEEL better.

Moping around waiting for our week to kick off in the right way won’t work, unless we help ourselves.

MOVING ourselves and doing something will change our bodies will light the spark, but just as importantly will change our mindset, our attitude, our enthusiasm for life and what we actually get done today.

There’s nothing more powerful than getting stuff done, because once you do your first thing, then the next thing will be even easier and so on with the momentum you have created.

If you change your attitude to “what can I do to make myself better than last week”, and actually act on it, then automatically you will start becoming a high performer yourself.

Trying to “win” every day must always be a big goal for us, and it’s not for any selfish reasons.

Winning to me should be about feeling better, full of energy and mentally in a good place.

I know what does it, I need to move PLENTY, I need to eat well, I need to drink enough water, I need a short nap in the middle of the day, and I need to sleep well at night, if I can get all of this right especially on a week night, I feel READY to take on challenges.

This weather can trick us into not doing any of this, it can make us idle and can soon undo our very good habits that we know help us to feel better.

So the word winning actually means FEELING GOOD, physically and just as importantly, MENTALLY and exercise is always the catalyst and spark to get us in that special place of wellbeing we miss so badly if we aren’t there.

It may be warm for a few days but I urge you to do the things that help you WIN at life, make you feel good and keep you into routine, because when you are out of routine, nothing seems to feel anywhere near as good.

Fantastic session this morning despite the hot weather,. Usual advice during these times drink water not only at your exercise session but throughout the day, this makes all the difference.

We don’t do a massive amount of outside work in this weather, but the gym is cool inside with four fans.

Take your time during the session and work yourself back up in terms of intensity.

Here’s one thing to think about, for every week off you have it usually takes 1-2 weeks to get back to your previous standard where you left off, so not training at all is not a great idea.
