We all want to think big and do great things, when we are 8 years age.
Then we start going through school in earnest, and “others” start shutting us down on what we really want. We want to fit in, we “ought” to think the same as others, and we “should be grateful” for our lot.
So to continue thinking independently is a challenge, especially if you continue to seek others’ opinion on everything you do.
What you wanted to do at 8 years of age probably differs a great deal to what you are doing now. Did you stop because your friends said that was unrealistic or a “careers teacher” didn’t believe you could, pointing you in the direction of “their choices”?
Same thing when it comes to getting healthy and fit. Have you been brainwashed into thinking that gyms are all about being put on a treadmill, some bike, and maybe some rower if you are being “adventurous”? No wonder most people quit this model and many gyms come and go.
If you have a weak back, a bad knee, a painful hip, then this SHOULD encourage you to think independently. All those exercises mentioned in a typical gym programme would most likely aggravate those issues. Please DEMAND better advice, demand to be shown every time what you need to do (and safely), and asked to be coached until you get it.
Please never sign up for a contract to a gym ever, they hope you will never show up, never coach you, but they still get paid.
You went in the gym just like the 8 year old with massive dreams and aspirations. Don’t let ANYONE tell you that you can’t turn back the years again and get much more active again.
Don’t let anyone tell you that exercise won’t help your condition in some way.
REALLY PLEASE don’t let anyone keep you on a limited programme that sends you mind to sleep. DEMAND an engaging programme, one that challenges you and excites you the same time.
Go back to 8 years old state of mind when anything was possible, stay true to your aspirations, and do whatever is within your power to make them happen!
