Sunday 22nd March

I cut the lawn today for the first time, it was really long and scruffy, it was a slow arduous task, took me well over an hour and thats without tidying everything else up which will take considerably longer.

At times, I was thinking of giving up, doing a quarter, then I got to a half, then I thought another quarter, then I debated doing the top half of my lawn, I was tired by now, but my muscle memory reminded me of last year, every cut when I was tempted to quit half way through.

I carried on and eventually I did all of it, picking dogs toys, tennis balls and just about everything else that was tangled in the grass along the way.

Here’s the thing, it wasn’t a particularly pleasant process, but the feeling I got afterwards, after seeing it tidy again ( but far from perfect) was very satisfying, it was all worth it, the parts of it that were unpleasant I cant even remember much anymore.

Anything worth doing it often going to be hard, I know next week when I do it, it will become a little easier as it won’t be so long, my body will start to get used to it again and the week after that I am likely to be in the swing of it even, and it will likely take 20 mins even (as I have done that lawn literally hundreds of times before!!).

Our gym sessions can sometimes give us the same feeling, especially after a lay off or lack of consistency, getting going again or the thought of it can seem overwhelming, but we must never lose sight of the big picture, what exercise really gives us, how great it makes us feel, how it boosts our self esteem, raises our self confidence and gives us the best health insurance policy we could ever have.
