Wednesday, 10th October

To develop your full potential, you need to start thinking bigger and open your mind to endless possibilities if you eliminate some of the obstacles holding you back.

This is when you discover the “magic” of thinking big.

There are two types of people, those who do something about it and try to enhance their health.

Then there are those who don’t actively do anything about their health and have a condition called “excuse-itis” and have the following reasons why they can’t exercise (i am too old, too young, too overweight, too underweight, it’s too hot, it’s too cold, exercise is not for me, i have a bad back, i have a bad knee, i have a bad shoulder, exercise never changes anything etc etc) .

We have endless examples of individuals who defy the odds and beat the medical conditions they have to inspire others. I find many of the most afflicted and would definitely have MANY reasons to complain, ARE the ones who complain the least.

One person who trains with us has heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, a terrible knee and hip, a weak ankle and a stiff shoulder, and every day is often a struggle to get up. Yet once she gets going, she somehow comes to life and adds greatly to the encouraging atmosphere at the gym and has progressed dramatically having a hugely positive impact on all of those afflictions.

Diabetes is a massive problem for the UK and there’s no doubt you know many people with it. There are those who actively do something about it, and those who wait for it to get worse.

Exercise will only help diabetes and getting fitter will automatically lead to you getting healthier and feeling better full stop. Don’t take my word for it, we have two of the most senior diabetes nurses in the county who will tell you the same who train with us most days.

All exercise should be supervised and each condition should be considered before any programme starts, this is why treating everyone as an individual is so vital to us and it should be for you too.

With all the science of training and healthy advice better than any time in history, there has never been a better time to think big and make a massive positive difference to your health!

Tuesday, 9th August

There’s a big difference between wishful thinking and being optimistic with your health and fitness.

If you are optimistic, then you are looking for progress but you are willing to put in a big effort to get it. You are actively working on getting what you want and you will look at the positives along the way. You will be hungry to know what works, what’s really going to help you and you will be prepared to put the work in no matter what, knowing good things will come of it eventually.

If you rely on wishful thinking, then you hope things somehow fall into place, although you aren’t prepared to do any work along the way so that can happen. You will happily pretend that you train although you may never show up, never eat healthy and you “hope” that it all will work out in the end. This approach always fails because there is no substance and no real plan.

Someone who works hard develops opportunities because they put in strong foundations through constant efforts. They put in the work even though it doesn’t offer guaranteed results to begin with, they know that by working hard good things will eventually happen. They have a sense of purpose and they believe their good workouts will eventually have a positive impact on their lives.

When you are optimistic, you are looking to make a positive contribution and this will always give you the momentum to keep on going.

Your body will always remember what you gave to it, in terms of good workouts and in healthy eating. Look after it by putting good stuff in, and it will look after you.

Be optimistic and give yourself the self-belief you really need, and be prepared to put the work in that comes with it and great things are bound to happen.

Monday, 8th August

Monday sharpens my focus again.
Monday gets my lungs breathing fire again.
Monday sets down my marker for the week again.
Monday means finishing the night off with Liam Bennett, and i see someone at the peak of his powers who is still eager to learn and reach a new athletic high.
Monday sees my plans for the week develop into endless possibility.
Monday gets my mind prepared, to see possibilities and fresh opportunities, i guarantee monday always does this for me.
Monday gives me the broad view, and exactly what needs to be done the rest of the week.
Have a good monday and the rest of the week gathers momentum.
Monday is all about excitement for what we can create for the rest of the week.
Monday should be yours to achieve whatever you want but it ALL starts here.
Monday gets you organised, motivated, gets your body strong, makes you eat well again, and pushes you forward to fresh achievement every week.
Monday should never hold you back, monday is your springboard for the week so let’s do it and have another great week!!

Sunday, August 7th

Run your own race.

Observe others and draw inspiration from others, but as long as you get a little better each week, then you are running a great race and you are guaranteed to create life-changing results.

Concentrate on YOUR race, that’s it!!

Every week, just a little bit better, a little bit more.

By concentrating on getting a bit better, you avoid dips, time out from exercise and dips in self-belief. Just keep going, even when sometimes you don’t feel like it, that’s the true secret of success. You will be shocked on how far you can go.

Thursday, 4th August

There’s no substituting getting out in the field and actually trying things, and having a go at what you really want to do.

One famous Canadian Oil and gas company owner once said that although it sounds stupid, you only find oil wells by actually DRILLING for oil. Many people study charts and logs, the theory, they talk about it for weeks, months and even years yet never get around to going for it and drilling.

The decision to get healthier must start with you right now. No need to buy yet another magazine on it, read another article online about it, talk to everyone about it, the overwhelming evidence is that once you start exercising and eating right, then everything in life WILL get better for you if you do it right.

Once you start, you almost immediately discover more about yourself.

From that first session, you will probably discover that your breathing capacity is a bit better than you thought. You will discover that exercising with others is not intimidating at all, as you are all like-minded people trying to improve yourselves.

You will discover that you can lift weights and you are stronger than you ever thought with a bit of practice at it, and experience all the health benefits it brings. The days when blokes did weights only and the women did cardio only ought to be stuck in a museum marked 1982 and frozen there for life.

There is no scientific or any other real life reason why as a female you can’t train exactly the same as a male, our gym treats men and women the same, both we find are highly capable of training very hard so why this fear of different types of training exists is beyond me.

Begin today by “drilling your own oil wells”, don’t become someone who talks about it and is an “armchair expert”. Don’t accept being put on a 12 or 18 month contract by a gym who wants you to pay and never turn up, don’t accept anyone teaching you who hasn’t any proven results and EXPECT help EVERY session and a PLAN.

Time to stop talking and start doing.
