Monday 15th May

We can learn a lot from puppies. My puppy is quietly getting used to going for walks, going down the lane a bit further each time, nervous to discover new areas of the lane, and then eventually seeing fast moving cars for the very first time.

At EACH of those stages, he doesn’t want to go any further, He would rather go back to the safety of his home. BUT he’s encouraged to take a few more steps, then it’s time to go back home again.

You know in a few weeks, a few months time, that he will be straining to search out much more adventurous terrain, sights and smells.

When someone is thinking about exercising, or start back exercising, they want to feel better but like the puppy, they feel nervous about taking the first step through the gym door.

When they do, they don’t think they could ever be as fit as the people they see working out.

They need to be encouraged to get better, to try new exercises and challenges, and as soon as they discover they CAN do most things much better than they thought, it’s at that point they cannot be stopped.

This is when great momentum is reached in their exercise and fitness journey and regular exercise becomes a way of life you carry on just to feel better and is exactly where you want to be. All the nerves would have gone and you only wonder why you didn’t start earlier.

Why we never advertise-EVER!!!

I had a question off a member of the public again this week “why don’t you advertise? I never see you doing it” as if it was a “bad thing”!! It is true, we NEVER do it and I apologised to him profusely for NOT doing it in a tongue in cheek way.

We rely on our service to our members ABOVE EVERYTHING else, and that’s how word of mouth works. Our members come first, we have very young members from 6 years old all the way up to almost 90 years of age, all of them have different needs and abilities, and that’s why a silly approach of shoving them all into a big group, smash them with the same workout and HOPE for the best could be a disastrous and often dangerous approach.

We are NEVER “looking for 10 more women/men” like you see some trainers/gyms doing those cheesy adds as if its a sincere advert, it really is cringeworthy.

We are never looking for “busy dads” or other false marketing rubbish that fools nobody (perhaps it does for 5 mins I’m not sure).

We never hook people up on contracts and force them to pay against their will and they feel trapped. I want people who WANT to train with us at the gym, who are happy and want to learn.

At any one time when you walk into the gym, we are busy training with INTELLIGENCE and constantly solving problems and offering the BEST SOLUTION to make you perform better, recover quicker from injury and in general elevate you to a much higher level.

WE WILL NEVER ADVERTISE EVER, and we thank you for buying into our intelligent training that always changes, designed to make you constantly a lot better,

I love it when other people go to other gyms before us, because its great so they can see the comparison of what they are used to (usually no help and nobody gives a damn), to what we do (maximum help and get the job done no matter what approach).

Thanks for your continued amazing support,

Keri and family.

Learning new exercises in the gym is very much learning new skills. I am horrified often when I get new members who may have trained other places before us, and their knowledge of training is very limited to say the least.

In my view, this is a dereliction of duty of the training/gym in my book. Every time someone comes into the gym, they need to be shown how to train right, especially in the early stages,

Exercise form can go out the window from time for a couple of reasons too, trying to use too much weight or trying to do an exercise that you may not be quite capable of yet, due to your level of experience (which will only get better over time).

The main benefit of learning new skills is not only keeping your mind fresh and never getting bored, but it offers a brand new levels of results you perhaps wouldn’t have achieved by doing the “same old thing” all the time.

The main point of coming to a gym, apart from being in an encouraging environment that will elevate your mood and willpower greatly, is to do things the RIGHT WAY and not waste any of your valuable time.

It’s not about the time you spend at the gym, its what you DO when you are there. That’s when you results multiply quickly and you realise that joining the gym has been very much a great decision in your life.

The end of bank holiday and start of the new week highlights our mode of “surviving” in life, and then performing and thriving in life.

Over the weekend, we may have not have eaten so well as normal, drunk a little more than normal and been up for later than normal with less quality sleep.

Fast forward to our workout today and everything is much more of a struggle.

We are very much in “survival mode”. If we live our whole week like this, not eating right and not training, then life soon becomes a dreaded survival mode, and it’s highly likely we will moan about life “is not fair” at times, but the truth is that a large part feeling better comes down to our habits.

Doing more of what we know will help us, and still doing a bit of what we enjoy too is always the magical “balance in life” we always talk about.

Tuesday to friday this week is a chance to thrive again.

Today you can get the downside of bank holiday out of you once and for all, it will make sure you have a good night’s sleep and regenerate your energy stores so that you are ready to thrive in your workouts tomorrow and for the rest of the week.

Everyone wants to thrive in life, that way you are really making sure you love life, all you have to remember is the formula of training hard, eating well and rest well 80% of the time.

If you go back into “survival mode” from getting out of the habit of putting the work in, when everything becomes too big an effort and unpleasant to do, and nobody wants to end up there as its a big rut to get out of.

Today is critical to how your week turns out, not only physically but mentally too. Be kind on yourself.

4th May 2023

We all remember people who have departed the world and wished we had more time with them. Some leave early, some leave very late, but we all want to have a good time when we are here.

Prince used to say you should party “like it’s 1999” and that’s a saying we have all practiced and full embraced at many times of our lives. Some of the fittest people I have trained are often the biggest partygoers because their energy knows no bounds.

Their workouts and the energy they gain from those workouts will power them through any day/night out that comes their way.

The problem is once your health goes into decline, you are in no real condition to party like that anymore because you don’t have the energy, mobility and even if you have the will, you don’t have the stamina anymore.

I love the saying “one life you have, go for it”, BUT you have to already have the health and fitness to full embrace that. Put your workouts in, eat well 80% of the time, get your rest, do your amazing parties if that what excites you at whatever age you are.

I have been on holidays with people who are really fit and they usually can do endless things on holidays, nothing is off limits because all that travelling, sightseeing and PARTYING is no problem.

Then I have been on holiday with those who have struggled with their fitness and health, and it’s a different holiday completely, and you have to adjust energy levels, distance covered accordingly out of respect.

I grew up in the 80’s when you were considered a hero if you hit the pub every night and ate pie and chips every day, and came home smelling of smoke. Sounded amazing at the time, but the diabetes, lung disease and blood pressure/heart disease wasn’t quite as much fun.

One life live it, you can have it all and still be “fun” if you have balance.
