We continue to raise standards at the gym, this week’s challenge was raised twice in just one week, and it was done quicker too.

These challenges are personal to YOU, some may be better than you, you may be better than many who knows, but if you don’t test yourself, you will never know.

It’s a complement to you when I up the ante in the session it means I can see more in your ability and potential, and the only competition is with yourself.

Tomorrow will be the last day of this one before it’s consigned to the archives, most of you have been through it twice already, but remember there’s always big opportunities for you to test yourself.

Those of you who have just returned after holidays, you will realise how hard it is all over again, so my advice is to build up to your standard before holidays and then continue to thrive with the new challenges.

Good and bad choices

At the gym and outside the gym, I see two kinds of lives. People who make “easy” choices on lifestyle usually end up having hard lives, and those who make harder choices 80% of the time end up having easy and much more productive lives.

Some people get their breakfast “on the run”, usually hot cooked or sugary rubbish in a convenience store. Before that, they watch the media give the usual run of bad news on TV, setting a bad tone early in the day.

Some people make a much healthier breakfast at home, and bit by bit are able to imagine a more positive future because they are eating better, exercising and seeing energy come back into their lives, and have learned to ignore a lot of what the media/social media spews at us.

Some people eat on the go all day, whatever a convenience store offers/takeout offers/ or cafe offerings full of salt/sugar and fat or all three, a little lift of energy (doesn’t last long) and then a trough of energy (for the most part) and big swings in mood..

Some people prepare good food for their day which limits poor decisions and keeps them full for much of the day, because they know they have to put a workout in later, and don’t want to waste all that good work by eating and drinking rubbish.

When I stand outside the gym, I see many people in the takeaways often in coats during august, ready to go home and eat fast food, feed their minds on the negative rubbish the media throws at us again, and its easy why many people live a life feeling depressed and feel there’s no hope, and so many use food as an emotional crutch for the feelings often of anxiety and desperation.

Add onto this the much increased chances of diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease will go way up over time.

Then I look right by the gym, and inside the gym, most people in a t-shirt and on a different purpose in life. They may hate their job even at times but the gym is a great release from all of that and allows them to deal with stress in the best way-no side effects, and become determined to make the most of life.

Massive efforts are going in and they will always feel much better than when they came in, they will meet like minded people and will always get a pick me up even when they have had horrid days.

Exercising, eating right and trying to ignore the depressing media is often tough but once you get in the habit, then life’s possibilities and wonderment will come thick and fast into your life.

Some of the world may have lost their minds, but remember you can control what you take in, and once you do that you will be well on your way to not only being fit and healthy, but you will get your mind right too to be able to see life in a completely different way again.

Wednesday, 2nd august

Can I thank those of you who have got through week 2 of our big challenge at the gym (to be done twice a week ideally).

The idea is to work you in all areas, work on your weakest areas as we ALL have them, work on the stuff you like too, and create around 20 mins of real intensity and a massive challenge to your strength, endurance, coordination, spacial awareness, visual cues and awareness.Every single person has got through it AT THEIR OWN PACE, and we are proud of all of you.I think it’s your right to be able to transport yourself in time and do the stuff you took for granted all those years ago as a kid.

You may be slower now, but practice means you can soon speed up again, and enjoy yourself in the process because nobody is judging you!!!It’s nice to take things on you thought were easy, and you can appreciate now why we do certain things relentlessly, because they will be offering you a lot of unexpected value, you will be moving heck of a lot better in a month that’s for sure!!

Most of us give up on great strategies we know that work, JUST BEFORE they end up working.

If I could give one bit of advice to you form years of experience of training people and watching people fail and succeed at meaningful goals, it’s this;

IF IN DOUBT, and you feel like quitting because all the good stuff is “not working” in your opinion, or more like not working “yet” seemingly even though you may be your harshest critic, then you need to DOUBLE DOWN on the good stuff once again to see it through, because success and feeling better always comes from the good stuff you do, from lifting more weights, getting your heart rate up, which automatically enhances your mental health.

Society and the media is heavily marketing quick fixes, fads and gimmicks and “friends” aren’t friends if they are selling you these awful substances, pills and powders for your body and mind, solutions that always cost a lot of money too on top of the damage they do internally to you

So don’t think exercise is working for you?-DOUBLE DOWN on it and keep going, don’t think good food is helping your body and energy out? DOUBLE down on your efforts and keep going, are you continuously doubting yourself? Then doubling down on these strategies will do much more for your self-confidence and self-esteem than any pills will or promise to do.

Most masters in the world who are really good at something become masters by doing just a few things really well every day, and don’t get distracted by all the others that could take them off track.

Train hard, stay with it, and maybe for the first time in your life, be relentlessly consistent and if you give it time, then exceptional results and great health will be yours.

25th july

You have heard the statement before “the older I get, the less I care about what people think of me”-very wise.

They go onto say, “the younger I was, it was all that mattered, what people ‘thought’ of me”!!-Very true!

I will add this part “it’s not important what people think of you, AS LONG AS YOU KEEP DOING THE RIGHT THING, according to your principles in life.

When you exercise regularly, not everyone will like it-especially those who never exercise or had the discipline to stick at it, they won’t like you improving so much.

Lots of people will try and persuade you eat badly-especially those who’s eating has gone way of control and feels helpless to fix it themselves, and often use food as an emotional crutch.

Lots will want you to have a drink every day because they are-but most don’t see hell that can sometimes be unleashed behind closed doors in many people’s lives despite the “life is perfect” illusion-nobody can “master” alcohol its a very dangerous game when drinking everyday is “normalised”.

So many people will try to put you off striving for a better life, you are “too old, too overweight, too slow, too unintelligent, you haven’t go enough money, not enough qualifications, no enough friends, not enough talent, you don’t know enough people, not enough whatever!!!”-DO NOT BELIEVE THEM BECAUSE THEY ARE FLAT OUT LYING!!!

Live by your OWN standards, your own principles and you showing up in all areas of your life guarantees you a better future and a better right now!!
