Friday 24th june

Let me tell you something about the lifestyle i am selling!!!!

If you eat as naturally as possible and in sensible amounts, you WILL get in shape!!!

If you exercise regularly with strength and work your lungs regularly, you WILL get in shape!!!!

If you hit the sack early, you WILL feel more energetic and your body will recover nicely for the following day.

If you drink enough water throughout the day, you will up to a third more energy, burn more body fat and your body will function as a whole much better.

If you drink alcohol very much in moderation, a maximum of once a week, you will be able to stay in shape.

Smoking is the worst thing you can do FULL STOP, end of conversation on that in one sentence!!!

If you do all of these things, you will have a very powerful formula to feel and look amazing!!!

Whats your alternative?

Im sure most of you have tried them.

Go to a slimming club, and most of you WILL lose weight. Then according to research done by various national companies, you WILL PUT ALL THE WEIGHT BACK ON, and 5% on top on average. These are official statistics not mine!

Have you tried the all shakes and all bars diet, you know the one, i wont print their name for legal reasons.

You know the one, which makes you lose all the weight in a not very sensible way, and then PILES it back on once you eat normal food again, makes you feel light headed at time and charges you 75 pounds a week for the privillage!!! You should know the one by now!!

Have you tried any of the thousands of diet books, then a big thank you comes from the authors, although 99% of them never worked, they thank you personally for your monetary contribution to their pension funds, how generous of you!!!

So back to the point and as jean pointed out in yesterdays comment, doing it the natural sensible way is the best and only way to go!!!!

So all those people losing weight on a short term fix and through a faddy company, wish them good luck but just observes a few weeks or months down the line, statistics and research shows a highly negative outcome unfortunately.

Lets stay positive, eat natural, train smart and with real intensity, and discover the amazing heights you’re capable of not only know but for the rest of your life!!!

Thursday 23rd June

There is a “miraculous” story in the paper today from the world famous Havard university saying that………………………………………………………..are you ready for this?

Its not the calories that are so important, it’s the QUALITY OF FOOD that’s vital in terms of weight loss. Believe it or not, they said that lean proteins, fruit and vegetables, good carbs and portion control were the overwhelming and long term weight loss!!!!! Nuts in moderation were considered great for you because of their essential fats, wholegrains were considered vital and one amazing fact was……………………another drum roll, alcohol they said was a massive factor in putting weight on!!!!!!

Okay, the sarcasm stops now but hopefully you get the point.

We bang on here every day going on about the same thing all the time, but it just so happens that this “same old thing” happens to be true, and needs to be hammered home until people get it, and don’t waste all their money on faddy diets, and faddy exercise equipment!!!

Im not pretending to be a know all in anything, but I do tend to know what works and what doesn’t, I tend to know when someone or some organisation is trying to scam you out of your hard earned money!!!

So the Harvard university study comes up with all of this after a big budget thrown at it and it makes front page news, and nobody, and I mean nobody could be happier than me!!!

This is the time to embrace it all again, the time to realise it’s the quality that counts and not tediously counting everything. Of course if you DO EAT too many calories, you WILL put weight on even if you are eating quality food.

This is how rugby players get a lot bigger of course and develop a lot of muscle for example.

The reality is though if you eat sensible portions the size of your fist, you will look and feel fantastic over time, this is finally a fact and check put the front pages to prove it!!!!!!!!!!

Monday, June 20th

If you’re looking for your big start to the week, then you need a fundamentally good start to the week and it all begins with some solid eating plans!

Nothing wrong with up to 3 cups of tea or coffee a day, but you do need plenty of water on top of that, 8-10 glasses a day or around 1.5 litres if you are consuming by the bottle.

Breakfast is always going to work best when its a natural choice, weetabix are always fine, and porridge can be a great selection giving you a nice long steady supply of energy to start the day off. Dried fruit can be a great sweetener.

If you are having some fruit juice in the morning or at any other time, its always an excellent idea to dillute it as you wont be consuming as much sugar as a whole glass of juice, therefore saving on needless calories too.

Fruit is usually a matter of personal taste, some people like certain fruits and tend to stick on the same ones. Its always good to mix them up a bit so you get different nutrients, but the bottom line is that fruit of any kind should come in on a daily basis.

Vegetables are a must have in anyone’s day, a lot of people ignore these at their peril, because they provide a lot of what your body needs when it comes to supporting good health.  Again try to keep it varied and your body will feel all the better for it.

Your protein selections should be the lean choices, such as white meats and fish, and if you keep to this, you will feel full and your calories consumed will be relatively low, red meat is fine but only once a week.

One of the biggest mistakes people make with carbs is portion sizes, and if they are bigger than the size of your fist, then everything you eat will be putting on body fat rather than giving you energy.

Portion size for some people is one of the most difficult thing to change, but once you do get used to the smaller amounts, then your appetite gets smaller, and your ability to eat big meals goes down, which means a smaller and flatter stomach of course.

Put in a great workout today and add of all this great food, and you’re off to a flier early on in the week!!!

Friday 10th April 2011

Friday used to be the day I would measure myself in terms of physical performance, and Friday can be a great day to get the very best out of yourself.

I used to do a 20 minute time trial on the bike from my house in burry port to sandy water park and back. If I went much over 20 minutes, I would take it that I had slipped back with my fitness and I needed to pick up the pace with my training the following week.

If I broke 20 minutes, I knew my form and fitness was close to its maximum and I took a lot of satisfaction in recording this data on the computer not only in terms of time, but in terms of the average heart rate recorded over the course. If my heart rate was slowly coming down over the weeks, yet I was getting quicker, then everything was definitely going to plan and my performance and body was becoming a lot more efficient.

There’s not only the training element to this of course. What I would be eating every day would have a direct effect on my overall performance. If I ate badly, my Friday time trial would be mediocre no matter how hard I tried, if I ate well I would be primed to record an excellent time.

Measurements like this can offer key indicators on your overall progress.

If you have your own similar measurement, let me know and lets see how we can set about improving it.

If you have no kind of standard, then you have no barometer on how you are doing, and some kind of “hope for the best” attitude is not going to do you or your long term results and aspirations any good.

Lets make a difference this weekend and implement this very successful strategy that will give you maximum results every time!!!

Tuesday 7th June

We talked about yesterday the ability to work around injuries, instead of working through them which tends to make the injuries worse of course. Being flexible and being able to change your programme is very important.

The other issue is recovery and how important sleep and eating well is.

If you eat a variety of fresh natural foods, this usually means you will be ingesting a lot of vital nutrients that your body needs and when your body is down, such as when you are injured, these nutrients are even more important not only to make you feel better but to heal the damage that has already been done by the injury.

The process of an injury usually starts with your twisting or pulling something quite badly, then usually depending on the severity of the injury, your point of injury will bleed internally and the damage still goes on.

This is why ice is applied as soon as possible to injuries so the healing process can begin immediately, and you don’t waste time.

The ice will also bring inflammation down quickly of course, further speeding up the healing journey.

Then when you injury has stabilised, its important to keep bringing in, as I keep saying all the time, fresh natural food when possible to enable food to have its true healing power. People may scoff at this but your cells really appreciate good food coming in all the time because then it can go about fixing the injury, and much quicker than if you went on some kind of junk food diet which will only delay the process!!!

So if you can follow these rules, sleep then becomes paramount. If you get as much uninterrupted sleep as possible, your body will be in full recovery mode and will do its very best to fix itself in record time!

Its also paramount NOT to antagonise the injury again by working through it, you need to work AROUND it and train smart not to upset the incredible healing process your body is now on.

For the record, alcohol is the worst thing you can consume, as your body has to get rid of this foreign substance before it can heal again!

Some injuries are worse than others but these principles will help A LOT every time you have the misfortune of injury!!
