Thank you Sharon!

You need to be consistent at what you do if you want success, that applies to anything in life.

The temptation to give up when things get a little harder can be overwhelming for some, but we gain faith in our efforts when we are able to see first hand, individuals in our community, and in our gym who go through transformations in every area of their lives when they stick at it no matter what.

Let’s take the story of Sharon Griffiths from Kidwelly, who hasn’t missed a week’s training in a year and a half. Bets were made that she wouldn’t last a week.

She gathered confidence through every small milestone along the way.

Walking through the door was the hardest she said first time.

Making 3 sessions a week was her first milestone. Not being so stiff the morning after was another. Then feeling good from exercise was a major milestone that kept her wanting to carry on, if you feel good doing something, then you are very likely to want to do it.

Once she felt she could stick to coming 3 times a week, her performances got better and she developed some confidence to push herself to achieve more.

Her photos compared to when she first started started changing radically, and she was happy knowing she was doing it the right way. Her skin tone was healthier and had a glow, and she started feeling guilty if she missed her exercise.

The next stage was attempting our outside runs. From a slow start when she walked much of the session, she soon was running the whole way and raised her performance levels to exceptional. A friend of her’s told me this morning that she was in tears the first time she ran it all the way, the culmination of not only a physical effort but a deeply emotional effort and experience too, the girl nobody thought would last was in the process of becoming a champion.

All of this was due to her sticking at it, never allowing excuses into her life even though she has a very busy family life and career that always brought it’s daily pressures and stress.

She is also a major part of Coach Dan Smith’s successful classes at the gym and outside, and to be honest, is one of the first people i introduce new members to so she can relay her inspirational story, so that an absolute beginner can relate to someone who has battled through from being inactive, to someone who is a major part of the gym, who ALWAYS performs at the highest level now and what that takes both physically and mentally.

We salute you Sharon, Diloch yn Fawr! Thanks for everything.

The “magic formula” for getting results is always a simple one, but requires honesty.

Are you showing up for your workout at least 3 times a week? I always like to talk about creating a “chain”. Put a X in your calendar EVERY time you train. If you haven’t got 3 X’s a week on there regularly, you are not going to get what you want out of any programme.

2. Use a simple formula for eating. If you eat healthy 80% of the time, then great things will happen for you. Plan your food, avoid stopping in convenience shops/petrol stations for your snacks/meals. You can have the occasional treat, but your body will be nourished with the nutrients you need on a consistent basis. You will feel energetic and you your sense of wellbeing will be high.

3. Drink more water. The most underrated of habits. If you drink throughout the day, then you will feel better, your body will function a lot better full stop, and your energy levels will be high all day long.

4. Sleep better. If you are exercising well, chances are your sleep will improve greatly. Your body only improves in your sleep, when you have had chance to rest. Getting to bed earlier means you get up earlier and you get more done with your day.

5. Hang out with positive people. Anyone who drags your confidence down regularly is not your friend. Anyone who doesn’t want you to succeed is not worth bothering with. Your true friends will want the best for you.

This is a simple checklist that will transform everything in your life. Change one of these at a time until it sticks and you feel comfortable with it. Tell yourself there’s no going back this time.

Setting strong foundations for you is our number one task at the moment. You need to get stronger, you need to get fitter but you have to do the fundamental movements that are guaranteed to change you.

This new workout is particularly challenging, but you must get through it and master the exercises that are maybe giving you the biggest problems. They may seem hard or impossible to start with, but you are guaranteed to get very good at them and reap the rewards of those efforts.

Same with your food, don’t try and convince yourself it would be easier with powders instead of food. Real food works and doesn’t contain anywhere near the chemicals that powders do.

Cut the rubbish out of your life, you are all intelligent, you know what the rubbish is and it needs to go.

You know you feel better when you eat more natural food, and train right, EVERYTHING moves better. Knuckling down and doing the fundamentals is exactly where you need to be right now.

We are 200% focused on getting stronger, developing more endurance, feeling more positive and feeling better full stop. Let’s be prepared to work and aim high!

Allowing yourself to get more focused needs you to change maybe your daily rituals you are practicing right now.

Getting up late, racing around like crazy trying to get yourself and others ready without any thinking time, and not clearing your mind is not the best start to the day.

You live in stress, then stress awaits in work, you come home to stress, and you go to bed stressed, then the whole process starts all over again. Guess where all of this combination of days will end up?

Change means changing your habits.

I changed it myself a very short time ago.

Now i get up even earlier to make sure i have 15-20 minutes time just sitting there and relaxing, both my body and more importantly my mind. No social media, emails, TV anything.

That time helps me relax greatly and clears my mind of all the stuff that doesn’t need to be there.

Then i will usually go for a walk with the dogs which only helps this process.

You will find you are better equipped to face the day, you will contribute more, way less stressed and much more in control of your thoughts and ultimately the action you need to take each day.

Sounds a simple not noticed habit but this method of starting your day will clear your mind totally and help you immeasurably.

Improving your life, your confidence and self-esteem, being happy internally is what exercise and eating healthy should be all about. This time of year though, that vision gets distorted by “extreme” versions on how you should do it pedalled by those looking to rip you off and sell you a dream that ends up in misery.

What happens when that period of extreme commitment ends (usually quite soon)? Time and time again i see people putting that weight back on by following something that’s not designed to last or sustainable for the rest of your life.

This leads to the rest of the year being in frustration and chasing yet more miracle diets and exercise “plans” that involves obsessive exercise and hammering your body into the ground which is very destructive and always leads to injury and crushes your morale long term.

Most people overeat in the first place due to some painful event in their lives.

They beat themselves up how they can’t lose weight, and will often starve themselves all day thinking if they don’t eat, then the weight will go away, they will get down to a certain size and all of their problems will be somehow “solved”.

They find though it’s never “enough” and are chasing a dream that doesn’t exist.

Change has to come from within, loving your body without any conditions if you’re this size or that size, your weighing scales never define who you are and are NOT a true reflection of your health. Getting healthy and fit should be how powerful and confident you have and will become in your own skin.

Developing the mental tools to make your healthy lifestyle works is invaluable and absolutely necessary. Strive to be your very best but you need to be kind to yourself along the way, loving who you are, the athlete (at any age or ability) you truly are capable of becoming, and the positive influence and leader you can become for those closest to you.

True health and progress for me is getting your heart, lungs and body much stronger, feeling much better in your clothes, you feel much happier both inside and out that lasts a lifetime, you have self-confidence and self-belief to finally do the things you used to put off, loving your body and health every day never stops no matter what happens, and developing the state of mind that nobody is going to stop you this time, you are in control of what you are doing, you know what it takes every day to be fit and healthy and it’s part of your everyday life without even thinking about it.
