Being able to bend down and tie your laces (instead of getting slip-on shoes because those “times are in the past”, being able to lift your child/grandchild into the air, being able to walk up a hill to see the view, being strong enough to lift your travel case into the overhead container on a planer, being able to go out for a day trip and being able to breathe properly and last the entire day-ARE ALL examples of the stuff you SHOULD be able to do, but for many these things are not “viable” any more for so many as they stop moving so much and get used to spending most of their life sitting down.

This didn’t happen by accident, like diabetes, blood pressure, heart disease-all usually happen over decades, weight gain/lack of flexibility/strength decreases/lack of endurance/lack of bone density/lung capacity don’t happen overnight either, it happens slowly but for these to get to the stage you can’t do those simple tasks, you will have had to be inactive/eaten too much of the wrong stuff for a long time.

And it’s the simply tasks that matter.

Imagine your child/grandchild’s face when you can lift them up again, can you imagine saying YES to day trips again instead of admitting you can’t last the pace anymore, admitting you can touch your toes again, and the satisfaction of seeing a different view most days with your own effort from your OWN body.

For all these tasks there’s a gym exercise to replicate it and keep making it easier, there’s many gym exercises to make your core strong enough, to repair and strengthen your back/hip pain and weakness and turn them into a powerful force again that transforms your life.

You are either improving in life or starting to fall apart (so slowly you don’t even notice at first).

Once exercise becomes a “I have no time to do it” excuse, think of the things you are really missing out on in life, and how it will quickly snowball which soon enough puts you into a deep hole that’s becomes very difficult to get out of

Make your life better by doing the exercises that will make you VERY capable and strong DEEP into old age, but it has to start NOW.

Think HEALTH-SPAN (quality of life) and not just life-span. 

Pharmaceutical Drugs will keep you alive longer but exercise and eating right will help you live even longer and live  so much BETTER, out of pain and being able to do pretty much what you are doing right now right up until the day you die or as close as you possibly can, that’s the difference exercising to a good standard regularly will give you.

Energy drinks were created because energy is the most deficient thing in most people’s lives.

Without energy you cannot be productive in your life, and the less energy you have, the less you want to do, the more irritable you are and even the most simple tasks you may take for granted seem suddenly to be very difficult all of a sudden.

We gain natural and long lasting energy at the gym because the more you move, the more energy you will build in your body.The more nutritious food you eat, the more energy you build.Drink water evenly through the day, the more energetic you will feel.

11th Sept-Let’s go!!!

Monday’s should signify your body’s re-awakening, as well as your mind getting its sharpness again after the weekend. 

If you’re doing a class (the 9am and 1025am class are equally as good and demanding), doing a live online workout early, working with me at the gym in between classes (when the workout constantly changes and is always high intensity), then your body and the way you feel will totally change.

Actions will always speak louder than words, we are no gym to just to “talk a good game|”, it’s about getting stuck in and giving it everything every single time.

Then as if that’s not enough, you have Gail’s class tonight at 6pm designed to stretch you to your absolute limits (and maybe even a little bit beyond too!), I will be inside the gym throughout.

We have a ton of stuff to get through this week, all you need is to show up with a good attitude, the rest will take care of itself!!

Sept 4th

Thinking of your life in a “health-span” rather than a life-span shines a new light on why we exercise most days.

We want mostly very good years as we age, being able to move around well in our 60, 70’s and 80’s. They would be termed as having a good health-span, but it needs some work regularly along the way.

If we look at at life-span, being on a stack of tablets, not being able to move around much because we are in so much pain and have little or no energy is no fun whatsoever. We may be “living”, but hardly living well or on our own terms.

Heart disease, cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure rarely happen all of a sudden, they are usually DECADES in the making and our lifestyle usually dictates how quickly these things threaten to blight our lives.

What we do today affects our future very directly and we can still change course even if we still on the wrong path and still try to convince ourselves we are “more fun” living this way, but what about the people who will have to look after us for our “fun lifestyle”.

Nothing wrong with having fun and a drink and something we don’t usually eat as a treat, but when its our daily life and not moving much, then we eventually end up in deep trouble.

Of course there are well-documented Centurions who smoke, have a regular drink, eat badly, and people often use them to “prove” healthy advice wrong in their own mind, but 30 year research into this group shows they are one-off’s with rare “lucky” genes that hardly anyone ever has. The rest of us are not so lucky.

The problem is science shows us often drastically that a lousy lifestyle eating and drinking what you want too often will eventually kill you, and far sooner than you think, or at least incapacitate you so life is much more of a struggle than it ought to be.

Decide what life you want to live, eating mostly good food and a life of plenty of movement, or a life relying on tablets, eating what you want, living in pain and moods continuously on the floor, only lifted briefly by food and drink times which only continues the vicious circle.

29th July-choose a better life

 If you exercise for at least 30 minutes a day most days (putting a good effort in), you are over 400% more likely not only to live longer, but to live a HIGH QUALITY life in those later years too, and that’s a BIG difference, 

THRIVE rather than “survive”. 

Studies show that many people cannot sit on the floor with their kids/grandkids and play games with them, then after that, cannot stand up unaided, even in their early 30’s onwards.

When you don’t exercise, you see things you took for granted years ago disappear from your reach, yet science shows that high performance in our later years is highly possible, even probable IF we continue to work at it.

There are countless people exercising hard later into their 80’s, I see many of them at first hand daily. They are re-defining what is not only possible, but is becoming normal at that age, but the work needs to go in still, it doesn’t happen by luck.

Habits with either make us or break us, and what we do now will bring us a great harvest later on in life as well as right now.

What are your non-negotiable’s you bank on to still be doing in your 60’s, 70’s and what about your 80’s? And what habits will help you achieve all of these things.

Will you accept steady decline, your “best years” are behind you, and look back on life with regret that you didn’t move more, and accepted that pain evading your body and mind was simply “inevitable” as “everyone gets old”.

I urge you to follow the strong science that exercise and eating right is 100 times better and powerful than any pharmaceutical drug, 30 mins a day that’s not too much surely to get your health back to where you know it could and should be in your life!!
