Tues 19th aug

Making improvements to your performance is first a question of your attitude and secondly you following up on that attitude and commitment you made to yourself.

Whatever efforts you make in your sessions today are what they are, you did your best and they are at a certain level as long as you had a good attitude (and we have had plenty of people doing great already this week)..

If you show up at least three times a week, your body naturally adapts to the next level as you will be hopefully eating right too, and getting to bed early enough to give your body enough rest to go again.

You showing up regularly shows to me and everyone else what your commitment level is like. Three times a week at least over 4 weeks is 12 sessions, enough to stimulate a big performance increase and you being able to sustain it.

Performance increases don’t come by accident, and I know who they are likely to come from, the ones that are always in the gym and always putting the work in. If great things happen for these people, then I’m not surprised.

Showing up once or twice a week is okay, if you want to tread water and not really improve as you would like. Trust me that third session really signifies to your body to improve as I have trained people for a lot of years, to get stronger and to adjust superbly well to the extra stimulus.

Three times a week means thriving, constant improvement, not letting pain into your body and feeling good all the time.

Monday 18th aug

Don’t ever see your workouts as daunting, scary, not possible, don’t view them with dread, you need to ask different questions about your approach to them?

Tell yourself how much you are benefitting from them.

How you are  becoming more resilient.

How you are knuckling down to the challenge and if you can do this, then any area of your life is open to improvement as long as you stick with it no matter what.

Life lessons are learned every time you stick at something rather than quit something.

Quitting teaches absolutely nothing, staying with a challenge teaches us a lot about ourselves, how much courage we have, how much determination we have, even under adversity in our lives at times which we all have now and again.

You and the gym ought to be a tourney, where you not only learn how to exercise right, but how to get through any challenge in life no matter how hard it is, because if we do, the rewards are always way more than we ever thought.

At times, it’s doing what nobody else can see that matters.

Putting in an extra session in when nobody else expects you to, and doing one more thing in your programme that you may not have done before.

Instead of having your usual “midweek treat” you secretly have, how about getting rid of it, and not even buying it in the first place, save it for the weekend, it will taste even better.

That friend who needs encouragement when they seem down? Give them a message, give them a call, buck them up a bit and tell them they CAN do this and feel better about themselves.

Doing the things that nobody else expects you to do can have a massive impact on your life and other’s lives.

Thurs 7th aug

The challenges of this week have been tough, but it comes down again to your mentality if you will overcome them or not.

All sorts of studies on the body show you are either in the mode of getting better (stronger, faster, more flexible, better balance, etc) or you are regressing (getting weaker, losing balance, getting stiffer and pain creeping in your body etc).

The nature of this month’s programme is to keep you n the ‘positive get better’ camp and make big gains in every area.

Showing up at least three times a week will guarantee you are improving, because your body will naturally respond well to every time you visit the gym.

Staying away from exercising will put you firmly in the regress, fall behind camp, as your body loves to stay strong and without the necessary stimulus, will have no reason to fight to get stronger, faster, better balanced etc.

You won’t feel like doing every workout, especially just before, but once you do, after ten minutes your mind will remind yourself why you exercise regularly and why you challenge yourself in such a purposeful way.

It’s easier to stay in the groove, have momentum on your side, rather than to constantly stop start, which is always the most mentally testing and toughest way ever to keep fit.

Tuesday 5th aug

Big storms for the north of the country yesterday, roofs can be blown off and great damage can be done, once one tile goes, roofers will often say they can all go in very high winds.

This is why culture at the gym is so important, we have another highly demanding programme start this week.

It needs concentration, a lot of effort and most of all needs to be approached with a good attitude. If we have one negative person, then can affect others and it can spread.

This is why it’s vital we have so many good characters at the gym who never moan, never get overwhelmed and approach the task at hand with courage, enthusiasm and a will to overcome anything over the next month.

This positive “let’s get stuck in” attitude can and will beat anything put in front of it, with the vital added benefit of lifting others’ spirits along the way.Our programmes build not only strong bodies but strong foundations in all areas, including strong minds capable of getting through any storm.
